Okay, I thought that if his mother is of Persian decsent than he would also be Persian. I've found a refrence that states out that his mother is of Persian descent, I wish you keep that fact staying there, as it would put an end on all the controversy that there is on the discussion page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Havashavas1 (talkcontribs)

I'm afraid your reasoning isn't sound here. His mother's family once lived in Persia, but that doesn't mean he is Persian. Many people have ancestors who once lived in a different country. That doesn't mean they come from that country. For example, George Bush's family came from England, Germany, Ireland, Normandy and France and yet he is an American, not English, German, Irish, Norman or French. Likewise, just because Baron Cohen's ancestors lived in Persia, it is not sensible to call him Persian. The Sacha Baron Cohen article already says his mother is of Persian descent. There is no need for further categories or other mention of this minor fact. Thanks, Gwernol 17:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
As a matter of fact I believe my reasoning has been sound on Wikipedia. If you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_f_kennedy , John F Kennedy's page, you see him under the "Irish-American" category, while he was the President of the US. The same way that Kennedy is Irish-American, Sacha Cohen is Persian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Havashavas1 (talkcontribs)
If that analogy held, then at most that would make him English-Persian. Nomenclature like "Irish-American" are matters of choice by the person to whom they are applied - JFK decided to describe himself as Irish American, but Bush, for example, calls himself just American despite his family heritage. You could only describe Baron Cohen as "English-Persian" if he chose to call himself that. Unless you have an independent, published source to show that's what he calls himself, you can't add it to the article. Gwernol 18:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages by deliberately introducing incorrect information, as you did to Sacha Baron Cohen, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Gwernol 18:55, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

First of all its not vandalism, than Ok I agree with you, I will add British Iranian instead of Persian Jews to his Categories. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Havashavas1 (talkcontribs)

Yahoo, its unreliability, and this entire topic have already been discussed by other users on Talk:Sacha Baron Cohen. The consensus appears to have been that this information is false and should be kept out of the article. I don't see any new references that change the status of this. I am afraid that your logic is not sound here. It is referenced as many other lines have been, some referenced to yahoo even on this page.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Havashavas1 (talkcontribs)

Please stop adding Category:British Iranians to the Sacha Baron Cohen article. You simply don't have any evidence to support this. First of all, his mother is of Persian descent; Persia is not the same as Iran and you cannot draw the conclusion that it is. Second, as I pointed out above, terms like "British Iranians" or "Irish Americans" are ones of self choosing. You cannot decide you want to call Baron Cohen that on your own, you have to have independent, published sources that labels him "British Iranian". You have been warned about continuing to add unsourced information to the article. Please stop doing this. Thanks, Gwernol 14:00, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

As a matter of fact, Persia is the name of Iran, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran , and it still can be referred to Iran. I did not intend to add British Iranians but apparently as I told you in the case of Kennedy, and now I just noticed a few others, wikipedian editors tend to add these points. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Havashavas1 (talkcontribs)
The reason we refer to Kennedy as "Irish American" is because he refers to himself as that. If Sacha Baron Cohen refers to himself as British Iranian, we can add him to that category. Otherwise we can't Can you provide as independent, reliable source to show that Baron Cohen described himself as "British Iranian"? Gwernol 17:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
