Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been amended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter". The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone. Young & Rubicam this is a business article that needs cleanup. (All members who listed an interest in business appear to be inactive). John III of Portugal This is a straight forward historical biography. I don't know the status, it may be done by now. Greek etymologies This is cleanup work. This is a bunch of contributions that need ability in Greek. The status of the entries by now is unknown, they may have had them removed by now. Algebraic syntax This one is a problem because we basically need an expert. If you know about linguistics take a look. Or just look at it for style and value. ...I think I'll go and look at it again and see if should just be AFDed. Let me know if you have an opinion on this one. Thank you for joining the taskforce. (Go up one level from their desk and click user contributions to see if they are still active). The member interest chart is out of date on who is inactive, though I mark them inactive when I find someone inactive that I was thinking of giving an article to. Between the wheel war, his desysopping, and his failed RfA (well, it hasn't ended but it will fail), I don't want to be the reason he didn't win this, too. Anyways, at the time of my vote, the voting page stated only these rules: Elections staff can't vote. Those who were not a member of Esperanza before the 20th, can't vote Those running for a position can vote. Those currently on the Advisory Council can vote Beneath that, it said: This is the voting page for Esperanza's Febrary 2006 elections for two seats on the Advisory Council. You must be listed as a member of Esperanza in order to vote. The voting method is approval voting; you may support as many candidates as you wish. Voting began at 12:00 UTC on February 20th and will end at 11:59 UTC on February 27th. Any votes cast outside these dates will be discarded. That's all the rules it stated. It did not refer voters to Wikipedia:Esperanza/February_2006_elections, which stated the Feb 13 rule. Instead, the voting page said you had to be a member as of the 20th. Since the voting page failed to inform voters of the correct requirements, I think the requirements as stated on the voting page (or any pages linked to by that page) should be followed, and those alone. Even you said you didn't know of the requirement until recently. How am I supposed to follow a rule that not even the "experienced" election staff know? (I can just hear your response: It's a new rule. But then we go to the grandfather-rule issue: I only have to follow the rules as they were written when my alleged infraction of them occurred.) If you disagree with anything I said, please just let me know. I will be in the process of adding catagories later, but I have work now. I dont see why you can consider something like this to be useless, I am sure theres lots of articles that are not useful to anyone in particular, but mine ARE of use, my marae article will be added to the list of maraes in the world for instance. I thought this was a free encyclopedia, which anyone could create helpful new additions?
