Messaging another editor

edit

If you want to message another editor, you can just leave a message on their talk page, like this. In an article talk page (like template talk:exchange rate, you can't really be sure that the people who you think need to see it will actually do so unless you alert them. You can do this using template:ping or template:rto ('reply to'), like this: {{ping|John Doe}} or {{rto|Jane Doe}} Just putting an @ sign in front of a name doesn't work (the template generates the @ sign but more importantly, sends the message). --Red King (talk) 13:21, 22 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Red King: Got it, thank you!

RFC

edit

I would take seriously what RedRose has to say. Evidently I was wrong in saying that you could just recycle what you had written earlier. It seems that you need to do a succinct summary of it. (I should have let someone else advise you because I have never raised an RFC myself despite being a Wikipedia lifer :-) --Red King (talk) 18:09, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

There's a step-by-step guide at WP:RFCST, but don't worry: I've provided a brief, neutral question and signed it. As you can see at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Wikipedia proposals, the question is now correctly transcluded onto the page that lists the open RfCs inviting participation. It has had the unfortunate effect of using my name as the RfC sponsor, but you are very welcome to remove my sig from that first line and substitute your own. This is a wiki and we can fix these sort of small problems without getting tied up in bureaucracy. Cheers --RexxS (talk) 23:09, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@RexxS: I appreciate the info and thank you for your efforts! I'm honestly lost with all that information but will try to learn. Henryguide (talk) 18:28, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
