Gates (band)

Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you want to get involved, but I'm afraid there's a problem with the article you created, Gates (band). It did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Don't feel too badly; lots of people have a little trouble when creating their first article. You might find it useful to read Your First Article for some good advice about starting to create articles on Wikipedia. Two important rules of thumb are: Avoid writing about yourself, your business, your family and friends, or your web page, and avoid writing about anything that hasn't been written about in reliable sources like books, newspapers, and magazines. Anyway, don't be discouraged. I've deleted the article you created, and feel free to ask me if you have any more questions. If I've made a mistake, and this article really is about a subject that meets the notability criteria, then please let me know my leaving me a message and links to at least three newspaper articles, magazine articles, or books that have been written about the subject, and I'll be glad to undelete it, and even add the sources so no other patroller makes the same mistake. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:32, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

It's not my first time, but every article I make gets deleted. You'll want there to be a Gates page when gets becomes bigger than Wikipedia. This is the only reason I made an account! --Herbienay (talk) 21:37, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you are correct, after Gates becomes notable, we will want an article about them. By then, it won't be necessary to write the article yourself, because your many fans will write it, and you'll be far too busy with your music career. But we don't need an article about the band until after they meet Wikipedia's notability criteria, and that doesn't require being 'bigger than Wikipedia'- although certainly some bands are. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:39, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Day Job

A tag has been placed on Day Job requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Template:Midtown

Hi there. Wanted to drop you a note about your recent edits to Template:Midtown. That thing is what's called a navbox; it conveniently groups links to articles of a related topic to facilitate reader navigation. As such, it should only contain links, and only working links to articles that exist on Wikipedia. In your recent edits you've added a list of the band's singles to the box, but none of these singles have articles. As such, I believe you've misconstrued the navbox for a discography, which it isn't. It's a navigation aide, so it should only contain article links. If at some point you or someone else creates articles for Midtown's singles, then of course links to those articles should be added to the box. But until then there shouldn't be anything in there that doesn't link to an existing article. Thanks. --IllaZilla (talk) 22:39, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

You can go to gatesnj.com. They're a real band. Why are they not notable? I really don't understand.

I know we talked about the notability criteria a few months ago; I searched again for reviews of their music in significant sources, or any other published information about them, but didn't find any. An encyclopedia doesn't need articles about everything that exists.
