I talk more than you! Anyway its a bit like the strange eds who blank their talk pages rather than archiving :) SatuSuro 01:03, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not a bad idea, actually. I was already thinking of making it into a short book covering the HDS area (Marmion, Hepburn, Wanneroo, Reid), which would obviously allow considerably more depth, inclusion of interview material which would be WP:OR on Wikipedia, and use of copyrighted images (mostly Crown copyright) with permission, so I could donate a manuscript and extracts/copies to the Battye along those lines. I am frankly amazed that NO history of the area exists, considering it was once front page material every few weeks - I think it's too far south in Wanneroo/Joondalup and too far north in Stirling for the historians of those councils to care about. :) (It gets something like 14 lines in a 300 page book about Stirling, and is only mentioned in passing three times in two books about Wanneroo) Orderinchaos78 02:16, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh and just noticed the action on that front - Good work! (how did you spot it?) Orderinchaos78 02:30, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Grateful if you could cast you eyes over this. Some fauna articles are named with common names and other scientific. Flora seems more consistent, but not always so. Is there a convention on this?

No, I moved it to Talk:Manning Clark where it belongs. Adam 11:24, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for those! That'll be great - I haven't decided what form I'll use but those are good because they pinpoint it within Perth as well. Might have to mark in a couple of major centres in text so newbies to Perth metro have a bit of perspective (probably Joondalup and Perth are the most appropriate ones) Might also use "smart fix" in Photoshop to make it a bit brighter and more distinct. I updated the taxobox, are you familiar with the wikipedian who produced it? Sorry, I was being lazy. That is an amazing taxobox, but I was intending to direct you here:
the creator(I hope!) of this image and others. Fred 14:39, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good pics and taxobox. They (pics) are almost too good to be true. Hope they are kosher. I think that he is just someone with an interesting 'eye' for composition. It is one of the best userpages I've seen, so simple yet original and intriguing. I left him an invite to WP:WA. Coud someone from wikiproject banksia try to engage his interest? Glad I could show you something this time. Regards Fred
City of Fremantle produces a red link - was going to look into it later. Orderinchaos78 02:25, 10 January 2007 (UTC) Category:Local Government Areas of Perth is now empty btw :) Orderinchaos78 02:58, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Good work :) And yes, City of Perth should be in the Perth one, but I think adding any of the other ones introduces an element of clutter (I'd say the suburbs pertain to the city - they're already in as Suburbs of Perth - but the LGAs are a political entity pertaining to the state) Orderinchaos78 03:36, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- This suburbs one getting changed btw is going to create major headaches for WP:IAP. :( I have no idea how we're going to get around it. That one was silly IMO - how many other Perths have suburbs? Orderinchaos78 03:37, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmm... I have somehow, between yesterday morning and this afternoon, managed to lose 3 A4 pages of copied out information and sources that I hadn't yet typed out. :| At least I can remember where I got it so I can get it again. I may not even need to, as the newspaper reports I have here may cover the material adequately (and I have three key sources entered anyway). Orderinchaos78 09:48, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Good news on this front - I managed to get them all again! Also realised I'd dumped notes on my sandbox which pointed me to what I did and did not have in my offline archive. Now keying. (Why can't handheld OCR scanners be cheaper? :)) Orderinchaos78 11:08, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for making the sub-group Former Student of AC, Perth. Although i do have one question and that is: Justin Langer (former Aus cricketer) was a former student of the college, and he is also quite famous around the college and has a number of his bats displayed around the school and also has a room dedicated to him in the College's premier pavillion on its premier oval, i have him in both categories - is this correct? Smbarnzy 12:12, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Hey Hesp =) you seem to be pretty with it, so i was wondering if you could review my article on Aquinas College, Perth at Wikipedia:Peer review/Aquinas College, Perth/archive4 , I have spent a considerable amount of time on this article and have been lacking in the feedback dept. Thanks =) Smbarnzy 12:54, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Hey man, as much as i want to belt you one i know i cant, but i do agree that it was a copyright violation etc etc etc. can you email me the text and i shall work on the project and bring it back to Wiki when it is of standard. Btw, what was against violation - im not quite sure =S. Thanks Smbarnzy 11:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- OK! HOLY CRAP! i was so entranced with rage that i didnt actually read the bit on the AC daughter articles and PSA. Holy fuck. I am pissed. Quite pissed. Quite fucking pissed. Like really fucking pissed. But i accept what you are saying - but the ac daughter articles have been AfD before and they survived. I think that they will again - i just need more time to alter them, and people arent giving me that much time and im not getting help either. Thanks for your views anyway. Smbarnzy 11:59, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- To be honest, im not going to stay away from wiki - I am going to fight for my articles until the death, and then fight for them some more. but which parts were copyrighted =S was it like history? Smbarnzy 12:20, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Well i think each article should be judged indivudually not as a group. Because some of those articles (i admit) are weak. Others are very strong articles (house system and sport - they are the ones i care about most). If they are merged - i guess its not a big loss - but i will reinstate those two articles if they are deleted, lol =) the others im not so crash hot on i only did it because Ganangarra thought it would be a good idea. But my major problem is that by doing this you are actively discouraging people for being proud of an organisation to which they belong to, and putting the extra effort into that particular article, even if the subject may be of low importance on the importance scale.
I find it extremely infuriating that you went and quickly AfD the Old AC hockey club page before i even knew about it (and you did that deliberately), that is what i am most annoyed about (i dont care about your opinion of the AfD - because i know i cant change it). I think that you should consult the people involved before you go to drastic measures, because that way atleast they can be prepared for what you are going to do. BTW - thanks for the email atleast - i will report in about 5 days or so.
As for the PSA daughter articles - Cant we just have one major article entitled (eg.) PSA Sports and have each of the sports on that page instead of the 14 or so other pages? I would accept that. Thanks Smbarnzy 12:38, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am mystified that process in wikipedia can lend itself to allowing socks to reformat things and to herd behaviour as some form of consensus. The issue that is more concerning at the moment is the Wikipedia talk:Places of local interest railway station discussion at which I am not conducting myself sufficiently guardedly - but which I feel quite concerned. SatuSuro 00:21, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- In reality the railway station issue is displacement but related to dognitive cissonance for my large number of indonesian geographical stubs - sometimes about twenty words or less that I passionately believe should exist - but as I say to wetman over periplus last night - all it needs is some speedy deletionist and I go down with hundreds of limited indonesian stubs around my neck as I drown in afds! the indonesian project is understaffed (so to speak) with few eds ready or interest or with the capacity to populate the stubs - I just wait the day... SatuSuro 02:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's not a bad idea you have! Actually, an unsourced-sorting project would be useful already-there's always Category:Articles with unsourced statements, Category:All articles lacking sources, etc. I'll see what WP:FACT would think about such a project. (Although, to at least some degree, I do still think a merge is called for when something has languished long enough. It can always be created again later when it can be done right.) Still, if we sorted them for a while, might keep everyone happy, and make sure there's enough time for any difficulties in sourcing to be dealt with. Seraphimblade 04:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Now you know my hidden agenda. This page was my first crack at Wikipedia. Most of my cleanup remains. I have found worse things since. My first step was to address the only user name in edits User talk:JackofOz and determine his position before proceeding with general discussion. I will give anon the opportunity to support his or her position. Otherwise it would seem to be a game of bluff as to who goes first in reverting and who gets the last word before 3rr.
Ta for the demolishing his 'political agenda' argument. Hopefully the debate will move on with that comment. My curiosity is piqued as to their persistance, unless they too think they are right about purpose of article. They also contributed nazi connection at General Motors, not an unreasonable assertation, with cruddy second hand references and preachy style. Either 'political balance', nazi americans and papist pinkoes, or he is a Ford man. The page is still better than when I found it and improvement in tone affords it some inherent protection. I should try lifting it to good article level, then apply same to other WA politcians. Thanks for letting me know. Fred 14:12, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Does marital status usually get mentioned? Biographical approach tends to avoid this unless notable, if I remember rightly. I recall something about son (not me either) being notable, and a bit of ancestry. I have been 'building community' (meaning; avoiding editing) until my books are unpacked and I can make some substantial contibutions.
The name change has more to do with denying the amount of time I have spent on wp; now I look at my page and don't realise its me :) Anyway I'll finally get to the gardens next week since there is a herp show on; so I'll get the epica pictures are there any other banksia articles that need pics? --Peta 23:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Its a show by the local Herpetological clubs; the gardens has all those conference centers and lizards and snakes of its own (they're doing an interesting study on climate changes and lizard sex too) so it works well. I'll check the list and see what I can find - there is a big banksia section - which makes it pretty easy - but there are heaps of regional species hidden away in the regional sections. --Peta 00:18, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

- OK! Revised comment: What I am adgitated about is that you went and AfD without giving me any comments before you did (in my view - at bare min you should have said: I am going to AfD these pages unless you improve them or prove their notability WP: Not - Or said you can do this, this and this to improve your articles, if you dont make changes they may be considered for AfD.
Second part, Can we make a page entitled PSA Sport and have all of the sport pages on there, so We have a list of all of the sports and just have all the same info just on less pages? Third part: The category has annoyed me, you didnt say as to why you removed all of the PSA pages from the Category and the Trinity page from there too - In my view. Trinity is pivitol to Aquinas - they are like brothers. and you explained the Category thing and from what you explained - the psa pages should be in there as the PSA makes up part of Aquinas - all of those articles are relevant to the Aquinas page. Please explain further and we will discuss the issue, and come to an agreement BEFORE we make any changes - I am quite civil once you exlain stuff to me, its when it is NOT explained that i become annoyed. Fourth part, Howcome Scotch College, Perth can have a pages on its houses and Aquinas College, Perth cannot? one is AfD and the other isnt? Im bemused?
User: Satsuro - large reason why i didnt continue to "cut-sick" at you.

Hi Pengo,
A quick question (or three), as I can't find the relevant documentation, and don't want to dig through the taxobox code.
Can I, should I, and how do I, use the taxobox conservation status field to signify that Banksia rosserae is a "Priority One" taxa under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950?
Cheers,
Hesperian 11:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- There's nothing for the WCA 1950 in the taxobox right now, but that can be fixed. Adding it would be appropriate for this species as it only exists in WA so the Act would be covering the "global" population of it (i'm not sure if the act considers whether a species is threatened globally or only within WA(?)). Actually, it appears the status of "Priority 1" is not something within that act (the word "priority" does not appear in the act), but it appears to be something assigned in the "Declared Rare and Priority Flora List" which is published by the Department of Environment and Conservation (Western Australia) [2].. The WCA act has only one category and that's "rare" -- and the article on Banksia rosserae even says it's not listed as "rare and endangered" under the act. So...
- I'd like to add WA's Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 as an status_system for the taxobox, but.. umm.. ok well i've worked it all out now. cool. so i'll do it sometime soon. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. —Pengo talk · contribs 00:16, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Does a similar priority list exist for fauna in WA? —Pengo talk · contribs 01:08, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Writing an article on it would be really excellent. I don't see a problem with the authorities not having legislative authority (there's nothing legally binding about IUCN Red List categories). Also I noticed that all the "declared rare" banksia species are also listed under the EPBC with various levels of threatenedness. Are WA's rare species automatically protected under the EPBC Act (or some other sort of correlation)? —Pengo talk · contribs 00:54, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Drew,
- open reply:
thanks for the relevant link. I joined up. With sage advice like that page, I had to. This approach would be seen as unrealistic or counterintuitive in the 'real world' but coud be just as effective. I should start adhering to model behaviour more, I occasionly get embroiled in pointless exercises (trolled?).
Cheers, Fred 05:51, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
The geo stub cat is good for keeping things tidy. I will be happy to labour on
I imagine this would always be populated, as would a fauna stub cat., by new projects similar to Banksia. The alternative is that those projects handle their own stubs, alpha order is working for future genus projects though. I got most of the amphibs with extant pages. Again, I'm happy to do the drudgery, just want guidance and thoughts. Or just say GO! Be Bold! I want to put your other careful explanations to good use. Fred 11:08, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I see what you are saying but in my view Trinity and Aquinas are apart of each-other (hence why i reposted them). eg. AC is apart of TC because AC is TC's boarding school, and TC is a part of AC because TC is AC's Day School (if that makes sense). That was the idea when they made them, AC = boarders and TC = day kids. So in my view they are apart of each other?
Maybe it is just the way I am looking at the topic at hand? im too 'personalised' with it?
Ok, So is it just my view of the topic OR am i completely screwed up on this entire thing. Because in my view the PSA sports are apart of Aquinas student life and that was my justification for them being on there. and the ex-students were apart of Aquinas so they go there too (before the former students thing).
Apologies for flying off the wall O>O. I had come home from 12hours of solid manual work - and i really hate customers at my work. Thanks for ur help Smbarnzy 14:46, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Much better than some of the edit summaries on (current WP:ACOTF) mulesing (including mine to be honest :( )Garrie 22:43, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- No problem, Hesperian, the page is looking better. My Stern is in the car, so I still haven't looked up to see if there was more than one Bidwill. Garrie, I like all the minor biographies of explorers and botanists on Wikipedia, as they're just one little detail someone can use to fill in the modern ethnobotanical history of plants. It's general pretty easy to find someone in the subject area to help out, and, imo, the majority of Wikipedia articles are improved by having more than one writer. KP Botany 22:50, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- I agree with KP that having several contributors has this page looking way better than I could have done without help. Thanks to you both.
- Heperian - just letting you know I'm stealing a link to User:Hesperian/Resources onto my user page. It took me a while to find thikgs like the NSW Geographical Names Board and connect that idea to wikipedia so finding your list is very helpful. My own user page is sufffering urban sprawl out of control and needs to be actually designed...Garrie 22:57, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Well, IPNI (Garrie, useful resource: [4]) will give me information about what he published, but it won't tell me what plants were named after him, will it, which is specifically what I want to know about the list you provided, were they all named after him, or were any named after some other Bidwill? Could you look at Grant65's talk page about football.... SatuSuro 05:45, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

At least someone is keeping a sense of humour. Your solution for rewrite was going to be mine. I can't envisage any situation where lentisco's solution is the only one. It was the absolute position that got up my nose, the editor put more effort into the edit comment than the edit itself.
The words man, woman, female and so on have been problematic, even before emancipation, in the en. speaking world. Since then it has been further complicated by understandable sensitivities over gender adjectives - the female brain, for example. I actually suspected 'woman' as adjective was ok, but as clunky as other attempts to correct inherent bias in our language. I have got into trouble for insisting on the title 'chairman', even though this is gender neutral. Any neat and sustainable solution to gender in english language would have to use neutral terms and adjectives. I guess I would have to say she is highly notable statesman, gender aside. I agree it is noteworthy that Lawrence was first premier, as it would have been had she become PM. I doubt lentisco appreciated my sentiment that it is regrettable that only man premiers preceded her. Anyway, this got swept away when I reverted the page. Your version will go in. P.S. I anticipate further problems if we have an (openly) tranvestite premier. Fred

It was your turn to make me laugh. Thanks. List of islands of Western Australia(redirect). I will add this strategy to my toolbox, for more important issues. Fred 13:40, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- BTW There is a thread on a subject, that you have commented on in the past, here. Fred
- What a load of crap. What really boils my blood is that the Stub WikiProject have never sought the community's blessing. They are simply a bunch of people who claimed to themselves the authority to traffic-light other people's stubs. Hesperian 03:52, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
There would seem to a problem beyond the aforementioned social construct distinction in heads of state. There are cats and lists with the same problem.
Again, the 'correct' solution is clunky looking. I did do a double take on my first encounter with this problem and think that your solution was the one I used also. I think I moved it all from the lead para to main space because it was not an achievement, if you see what I mean, instead hoping to focus it on career and life. What do you think? thanks for the help and the naming of the article - much appreciated. Smbarnzy 12:19, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Now that I've started actually building the article, and looking to some comparable FAs, two things from the Yarralumla article stand out:
- Commons:Image:Map_of_Yarralumla_in_Canberra.gif notes "Map of w:Yarralumla, suburb of Canberra. Shows foreign embassies to Australia. I made the map, based on UBD map of Canberra. Category: Maps of Canberra Category: Canberra" - is this a legitimate statement to claim "own work" (or some level of fair use based on own work acknowledging source)? If so, it would seem reasonable for me to crank out an SVG map of Hamersley with attractions and so on marked. I'm going with a modified form of the satellite image you did up for me for general location (going to lighten it up a bit in Photoshop) - thanks heaps for that :)
- Geology. Would be an interesting addition to the article but I know nothing about the field - although I wouldn't be surprised if our WP:WA people do. Would you know the best person to ask, or where would be the best place to look for reliable information on this so I can drum up a skeleton?
Might also need some help picking photos. In some cases I've taken 4 or 5 different shots and it's a matter of picking which one shows the features best. Residential suburbs are always so difficult to photograph representatively (I remember having this discussion a while ago with someone else). Orderinchaos78 04:25, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Thanks for that - I wouldn't know where to start with that side of things, biology and natural sciences was never my strong point (I did chemistry and maths at uni among other things) And cool - I will set about making an SVG map marking main features. Orderinchaos78 05:10, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Cool :) I'd appreciate that. I'm working on the non-historical sections at the moment and then will do the history all in one go in the morning. One other thing - could you offer an opinion on [5]? I'm trying to choose an angle to best portray the rather large Hamersley radio tower and can't decide what to go with. Whichever angle works best can be retaken (the photos were taken at the wrong time of day and at a lower resolution). Orderinchaos78 07:47, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Asking around a range of people, I think both angles have considerable strengths - one shows off the full span of the tower while the other puts it in context and basically looks nicer. I'm tempted to go with the second (Blissett/Wanneroo) for those reasons if forced to choose, but I would really like to not have to choose :) Orderinchaos78 13:18, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Thanks heaps for that - that's pretty impressive! And it makes sense - on a property I'm familiar with that was bulldozed in the late 80s, there was banksia (the dominant tree type actually), sheoak, jarrah, xanthorrhoea and bottlebrush, and you're right about the yellow sand. At the local primary school you can see marri nuts everywhere on the ground. Odd thing - in East Hamersley the banksias have narrower yellow flowers but in the west they have sort of fatter brownish flowers with white tips (as I said I would probably have failed biology had I actually studied it :P) There are four significant locations of original vegetation [6] - parts of the central park in East Hamersley including behind the primary school, the rectangle surrounding the transmitter tower, the roadside along Reid Highway (although much of this has been burnt out) and a small area between the Glendale school and the community centre along Lampard Street (which has signs up saying it is a dieback area). Don't know if any of this helps, but I thought I'd pass it on as you'd more than likely understand it better than me. I'll chuck up a pic taken of the mast reserve and the East Hamersley park on Flickr in a second. Orderinchaos78 02:39, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- No, most of Hamersley is comparatively elevated with peaks from 105ft to 180ft according to survey maps. There is a Water Corporation facility at this location but I'm guessing that is artificial. The swamps in Carine are about 250m from the nearest point in H. Orderinchaos78 03:09, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- I should be able to work it out from ABS. My own measurements suggest 0.44km² against 3.3km² for the suburb, but better to use a RS :) Update: We'll have to use that as a working estimate - I'm waiting for ABS to get back to me. It happens to coincide with Census Collection District 5100317 [7], which of course does not have a BCP as it has no residents. Another update: ABS say 0.47km² out of a more specific 3.27km². Hey Hesperian, that IP you unblocked for Adam was confirmed in March as an open proxy. I asked Michael Billington to test if it still is one and, if so, we should probably reblock it when Adam is done. Cheers, Sarah 10:49, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
- Yeah, the fun and games on that front are getting tedious. I think there needs to be more parental supervision instead of treating the internet like a babysitter. Anyway, Michael said Adam's IP is no longer an open proxy so we don't need to worry about reblocking it. Sarah 12:15, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I was jokingly joking. I think I've read 4 of those five and each is a superb article in it's own right. Of course there'll be similarities, the most obvious being the structure, but necessarily so. Sorry if I caused you the tiniest shred of doubt, please continue with the great work. Only 75 more to go ;) --Steve (Slf67) talk 23:58, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
