Andrew Charalambous

edit

I noticed you added back the claim that Andrew Charalambous won the "Outstanding Entrepreneur of the year 2014" award from the "Global Business Excellence Awards." A quick look at their website indicates they are simply a pay-for-award outfit. I have not been able to find any indication that this is a notable award or indeed meaningful honor at all. Are you sure it should be in the article? --TeaDrinker (talk) 02:40, 16 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@TeaDrinker: Thanks for this. I know organisations have to pay a registration fee to be considered for the GBE Awards but there still appear to be winners and losers. Also major corporations including BUPA, Royal Bank of Scotland and the Welcome Trust are previous winners. Perhaps we could add a balancing statement regarding the nature of the GBE Awards compared to other business awards, such as the National Business Awards. Are you aware of any reliable independent source which could be used for citation purposes? Hi-Peak Internet (talk) 08:20, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the quick reply! I am unaware of any source indicating the notability of the award, or refuting it for that matter. I would bet, however, that the Royal Bank of Scotland did not actually have to pay for an award. I suspect they simply added that to appear more credible. I couldn't find any indication that someone who paid to enter actually lost, but I will note that if you win, you still have to pay to get the certificate. And you can make up your own category. Nothing about that sounds legitimate. --TeaDrinker (talk) 02:36, 20 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@TeaDrinker: OK I'll see if I can find any balancing material on the GBE Awards. I believe this sort of article is far more informative if it includes contentious claims with balancing information, rather than just omitting all such claims. What do you think?
