Draft article and edit-a-thon
editHi Rockybayk, I am going to move your article to mainspace as I feel it is ok as a stub.
Thanks for participating in the recent edit-a-thon. There is another one Aug 21st which is now online if you feel you want to do more. There will be people to support and help with a Going West article if you wanted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Wellington/Performing_Arts_Edit-a-thon_2021
WikiProject update - Performing Arts Aotearoa 19 August
editA short update this time.
The project has created 74 new Wikipedia articles and improvements to many. An example is one person has been working through improving and creating notable composers of New Zealand which is a great enhancement to Wikipedia. There is a now a regular meetup happening in Ōtepoti from the edit-a-thon there.
The COVID19 status of New Zealand means the next workshop is fully online. Wellington Saturday 21 August
Please add yourself to the project page and dashboard of you are able to do any editing. You can join into the zoom (link below) – come to the introduction at 10.30am, pop into the ‘Tearoom’ to say hello to others and informally ask questions, or you can work by yourself.
Here is a google doc with suggested articles categories as 'dance' and 'theatre' with links to references.

edit(The afghan is the unofficial biscuit of Wikimedia Aotearoa.)
Kia ora Rockybayk; great to see you at the Performing Arts edit-a-thon. I'm happy to help with the Going West article (and we'll see if we can get it into Did You Know). When you start editing it helps to have some mentoring, so I encourage you to check out the Facebook group, join us for the monthly Aotearoa online meetup, leave a message on my Talk page, or just email me if you have a question. Ka kite ano. — Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 10:12, 21 August 2021 (UTC) |

WikiProject update - Performing Arts Aotearoa 12 May 2022
editA year after the project started and as we are coming into winter (a busier editing time for many) here is an update about the project.
The Performing Arts Aotearoa Wikiproject now lives on the WikiProject New Zealand page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_New_Zealand/Performing_Arts_Aotearoa
I have added new articles created as part of the Pacific Arts Aotearoa Wikiproject. These articles by new editors include Lusi Faiva, Suli Moa, Edith Amituanai and Amanaki Prescott-Faletau, who was interviewed on Radio New Zealand last Sunday. The reporter let me know the article was valuable for the interview research – great feedback for all of us creating and improving content in Wikipedia.
On the project page is highlighted plenty of articles to create or improve. I invite you to have a look and contribute if you can. There are many long-standing festivals in Aotearoa without articles such as the Hawkes Bay Arts Festival, Tauranga Festival of the Arts, Taranaki International Arts Festival, Nelson Arts Festival and the Christchurch Arts Festival. Creating these Wikipedia pages or Wikidata items allows links to biographies and strengthens the weaving of Wikipedia.
Other suggestions for new articles:
- Notable women - Jane Yonge, Amber Cureen, Eleanor Bishop (director)
- Director of the Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival and musician - Tama Waipara
- Notable theatre companies - Prayas Theatre, The Conch (theatre company), Barbarian Productions
Reach out to me if you want guidance on any aspects of Wikipedia, or a collegial conversation about writing encyclopaedic entries on performing arts. I can set up a zoom, or direct you to places for help.
Please try to remember to add any relevant articles improved or created to the lists on the project page so the impact can be seen. Take your name off the project page if you don’t want to get these sporadic updates. I will keep an eye on new articles and I have an ongoing campaign to get more images uploaded so we can illustrate the articles too. I have resources on Wikimedia Commons if you are interested. Feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Marking edits as minor
editKia ora Hineahua. Thank you for your contributions to the article Kelly Tarlton. I ask that you do not mark edits as minor when they make any material change to content. The criteria for marking edits as minor is set out here: WP:MINOR. You will see that edits qualifing as minor include spelling corrections and adding/ removing Wikilinks, reverting vandalism and minor formattimg changes, but do not include any material change to content. It is undesirable to mark edits as minor when they are not, because some editors choose not to see edits marked as minor in their watchlist. If changes in content are marked as minor, this may mean that members of the community who are watching the article will miss the notification of changes that they might wish to see and review. Ngā mihi, _Marshelec (talk) 04:34, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Kia ora Marshelec, thank you for this. I'm a novice editor and very much appreciate the good advice. I did pause when the minor/major check popped up, wondering what was the best option was, and this has clarified it for me. Hineahua (talk) 07:52, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
