About adding Pixel Studio to the Pixel Art Article

edit

Hello! I am the guy who undid your edits on Pixel_art I have not done this because I have anything against pixel studio, I am actually a user of the app and I believe it should be included, but you can't just add things without a proper source, particularly in this article which has had many issues with advertising.

If you keep reinstating it without a reliable source (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources) it will get undone by a moderator, and cases like this have ended in keywords getting blacklisted from Wikipedia and even banned users (That happened last year with an NFT related pixel-art editor. Though that was a much clearer case of advertising)

Just letting you know that you should spend some time looking for a reliable source before including it again, not that you should not include it.

Best wishes, ReffPixels (talk) 14:27, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Well, I don't have a book for 'reliable source'. But there are other editors listed with no 'reliable source', so this can be considered as some kind of discrimination.
I was also trying to create a separate wiki page about Pixel Studio like Aseprite has, but it was remove for 'advertising'.
Why a page on Google Play or App Store can't be considered as a 'reliable source'?
What are my options to publish this update? Or can I make an appeal? Thanks. HippoGamesUnity (talk) 16:22, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello again!
I'm sorry you've had this experience. As I said above, I know and have used Pixel Studio and I believe it belongs here, so at least on my part no "discrimination" is taking place.
About other software in the list being unsourced: If it was up to me I'd shorten the list to only Aseprite and Graphx2 (The only two with their own full articles) until reliable sources are presented for the rest, but editors disagree and popular software is constantly reinstated by its users. Sadly I have no power to ban or blacklist anyone or anything, that's done by the Moderators, or through requests and appeals (though that can be quite a process). I just wanted to let you know that it is important to find reliable sources for this kind of thing because these penalties happen all the time when advertising is suspected.
The article for reliable sources that I linked before explains it clearly.
(I also didn't have anything to do with your draft. As I said I do not have that kind of powers, I'm just a pixel artist who wants to improve this site)
Best wishes,

Hi! Apologies for the back-to-back comments but I wanted to expand on my last message because I didn't answer some questions.
1. What should you do next?
These things are complicated and I am no expert but as long as you find a good source before reinstating it, it should be fine. I just wanted to push you in the right direction and I will not undo your edits if you add it to the article again, but be aware that it is risky to do so without a source because in my experience the Moderation team takes suspected advertising really seriously.
2. Why do I care?
I said before that I know and use the app. So why do I care if you find a source to show that it is relevant when I already know it is relevant? Well, the main issue is that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. If everyone just added things based on what they think to be true without sources this website wouldn't be what it is. If someone is unable to find a source about a subject then that subject is probably too niche or non-relevant for any value to be added to the encyclopedia. This isnt isnt perfect but it is what the site is built upon (I've had experiences myself with a few article ideas I had to abandon for a lack of available sources)
3. If an app store/play store link isnt a valid source then what is?
When we say "Reliable source" or "relevance" it isnt about audience. A link to a page with a million downloads is an incredibly impressive milestone but it is not a source in encyclopedic terms. But once again I am no expert.
Best of luck on your future edits and best wishes,
-Reff

Thanks for your reply! I've added the following link as a 'reliable source', it'a a GitHub page with app wiki:
https://github.com/hippogamesunity/PixelStudioHub/wiki
The same way as LibreSprite links to their GitHub page. HippoGamesUnity (talk) 01:16, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
