Speedy deletion nomination of Heidi Julia Bender
editA tag has been placed on Heidi Julia Bender requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 05:28, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:FruitsAndVegetables.JPG
editThanks for uploading File:FruitsAndVegetables.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 02:48, 28 July 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 02:48, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
She sounds like she was a special person, beloved by her family. I can easily understand why you'd want to memorialize her. However, Wikipedia isn't a place for memorial pages- it's an encyclopedia. It makes me feel sad to have to delete this article, but the subject simply doesn't meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion - Wikipedia just isn't the right place for this material. Are you familiar with Biographicon? That might be a better place for your memorial- they aren't an encyclopedia, but a collection of biographies of all kinds of people. I'll leave it to your choice, after reading the links I've given you- do you want me to simply delete the article, or would you rather the community discuss whether it should be deleted first? -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 13:32, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, she was a very special person. However, the main reason for writing a Wikipedia bio page for her was that Wiki has the list of Venus crater names (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_craters_on_Venus#B) and Heidi's is one of the few without a bio link. I've just corrected that, but if you think the bio as written is too memorial, I'll try my best to neutralize it. Your help would be much appreciated in that. Thanks. Hjbender1 (talk) 17:14, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
I have added a footnote to the Bender crater's listing at List_of_craters_on_Venus#B, which provides some brief information about Heidi, with references. The obituary reference is a bit vague, because I only found reference to it, and not to the actual article. If you have a copy of it, you may want to fill out the details in the citation that I have missed. It looks like Heidi's article won't survive the deletion debate on the basis of notability, but the footnote should go some way to providing interested readers the background to the crater's name. Wikipeterproject (talk) 22:56, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! Your thoughtful addition certainly helps explain who that crater is named for. As you suggest, I'll try to track down the obit. And thanks for quieting down what had become an overheated discussion. Hjbender1 (talk) 04:33, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Noticed the article was deleted today. Even though I supported the deletion on the basis of Wikipedia policy, I was glad I learnt something about Heidi and hopefully the footnote in the craters article will ensure that anyone who is curious about the name can find out who it was named after. It would be good if you could find the obit and complete the reference. On an aside, I read Heidi's book (from your website) to my two daughters and told them her story. No doubt they will always think of her when they see Venus in future! Wikipeterproject (talk) 02:48, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
