Really? First of all, I live in the United States, and I do not, nor do I wish to use the metric system. Even though some people continue to try and PUSH it's use down our throats, we are really not interested in 'SWITCHING'. Most people in this country are not familiar with metric OR scientific metric conventions, (like "AU" (angstrom units), etc) so articles ONLY containing such terms will be less useful to such people. Also, has it ever occurred to you that everyone who reads WIKIPEDIA isn't a SCIENTIST? Shouldn't these people be able to get some use out of SCIENTIFIC-type articles without learning YOUR preferred system of weights and measures? And I did not "CHANGE" any of the conventions in the article, I merely ADDED an 'AMERICAN SYSTEM' TRANSLATION OF ONE OF THE METRIC MEASURES. Do you know the difference between CHANGING something, and ADDING something? If not, I will be glad to explain it to you! Good day!

Astronomical Unit is not metric; it is used with non-metric too. It is easier to grasp then a large distance figure too. Saros136 (talk) 17:31, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Units of measurement

Please stop adding Imperial units to Astronomy articles. I understand that you feel using SI units represents a bias against America, but editing multiple articles this way violated the spirit of WP:POINT. Look, VQuakr, I don't know who you are, and personally, I really don't care who you are. But being that you felt the need to pipe in, I will ask you something. What authority do YOU have to ask me to stop adding very small, ABSOLUTELY CORRECT snippets to articles that I feel will improve the readability of them to a wider cross-section of Wikipedia users? Also, provide me with ONE VALID REASON not to use the AMERICAN SYSTEM of MEASURES in addition to your METRIC measures in ASTRONOMY articles? Can you do that? Do YOU OWN Wikipedia? If you do, then just simply SAY you own it, and the issue will, of course, be settled. But if you DO NOT own this website, and the tiny additions I have made are ACCURATE INFORMATION, I feel no compunction to honor your 'REQUEST', sir or ma'am! By the way, have you ever heard of "NASA"? You know, the U.S. 'National Aeronautics and Space Administration'...Practically the INVENTORS of space flight! You HAVE heard of that, haven't you? Would you agree with me that the NASA WEBSITE discusses ASTRONOMY? Have you ever LOOKED at the NASA website? If you have, then I'm quite sure you've noticed (probably to your chagrin!) that they use units of measure in BOTH metric, AND the AMERICAN SYSTEM! Wow, do you believe contributors to the WIKIPEDIA FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA to exceed the expertise of NASA with regards to ASTRONOMY? If, as you (and others here) have indicated, terms like "MILES" are never used in ASTRONOMY articles, why does NASA use them? Well? NASA uses terms like "MILES" AND your metric crap to describe distances between celestial bodies, yet you people act like it is something FILTHY, or DIRTY to use AMERICAN MEASURE units! Let me tell you something. The WORLD learned what it knows about ASTRONOMY from OUR space agency, so don't you sit there and tell me what units of measure to use! Again, DO YOU, or ANY OTHER contributor/editor that complains if something is added here isn't part of the 'UK' system of measures, OWN THIS WEBSITE? Just tell me if you do, and, after confirming it, I will not make anymore edits. Otherwise, and, AGAIN, GIVE ME A VALID REASON (not because you personally don't like it!) While you are right that the astronomy articles are inaccesible to the bulk of WP's readers (who are in the US), inserting US customary measurements against consensus is not the way to rectify this. There are other ways to go about making changes to the policy that are less disruptive. Please note, however, that US customary conversions are not totally excluded from the articles. Per WP:MOSCONVERSIONS#Unit conversions, "When units are part of the subject of a topic—nautical miles in articles about the history of nautical law, SI units in scientific articles, yards in articles about American football—it can be excessive to provide conversions every time a unit occurs. It could be best to note that this topic will use the units (possibly giving the conversion factor to another familiar unit in a parenthetical note or a footnote), and link the first occurrence of each unit but not give a conversion every time it occurs." (ec) You can try calmly (without shouting and assuming bad faith or unfamiliarity of people with imperial units) discuss this issue at any relevant talk pages (e.g. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomy) - you might or might not convince wikipedians that miles should be added to the astronomy articles. You did not "block" me because I violated any cardinal rules of conduct or editing, you Blocked me because I would not stand for your arrogant disregard of my right to 'INCLUDE' a couple of AMERICAN SYSTEM measures (the term "miles") to make the articles easier to understand by American readers. And my "NOTES" piece was to let American readers know about the BIAS against them by the editors and administrators of this site, so they could make informed decisions about looking for information elsewhere. Sites that don't discriminate against readers in the United States of America, in other words! You called what I posted "VANDALISM". Are you crazy? Are you educated? Do you even know the meaning of the term "VANDALISM"? I committed no "vandalism", and I do not appreciate being accused of it. I am a blogger. I am a HUGE blogger!
