Welcome

edit

Hi, Hotaka, and welcome to Wikipedia. I notice you are adding links to the pinkeiga site in some the pinku eiga subjects. Thanks! I notice this site has some good information in English on subjects with little English-language sourcing. For major films like Lonely Cow, we should have a separate article eventually, and just use the pinkeiga site as a source within the article, and the same with major directors and actors. I hope you stay to contribute more information to these articles. If you are a native Japanese speaker, maybe I can ask you for help later? (I have done a lot of work in the pink and AV subjects, but my Japanese is far from fluent, and I sometimes have some difficulty with translations.) Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 02:32, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've removed these links for now. No articles exist for these films, so there is no case made for their notability. If these films are truly notable, consider creating articles for them. / edg 05:17, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
As I feared, Hotoka, some editors have removed your contributions. (Wikipedia currently cooks up home-made, subjective definitions of "notability" which have no relation to what experts on any particular subject have to say. Until a subject is proved to pass these arbitrary, made-up rules, an article on that subject is not allowed here. It will be a simple matter to prove these films and people pass the "notability" game though. All these rules do is slow down the process of contributing...) Anyway, I'll keep your links in mind though for future reference for when one of us gets around to starting articles on these films. Thanks again. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 14:57, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hotoka: These two diffs { [1] [2] } contain the deleted links. Please feel free to make a case for these films on Talk:Pink film. A Google search could help you find if anything has been written online about these films.
Dekkappai: without the notability guidelines (that you find "arbitrary" and "made-up"), Wikipedia would quickly devolve into free advertising for everything. The pinkeiga.com site (domain for all the links in question here) describes A Lonely Cow Weeps at Dawn and S&M Hunter as "[t]wo of our films", so I think there is sufficent evidence that these links are not suitable (per external link and conflict of interest policies) to demonstrate these films' notability. If this were allowed to stand, there would be a spammer feeding frenzy. / edg 16:03, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, Edgarde. The English-language descriptions you removed were at a list of award-winning films. If Wiki-guidelines (made up by anonymous Wikipedia editors) doubt the "notability" of films which have been awarded in their field, I am at a loss to explain these guidelines in a more generous adjective than "arbitrary". And yes, someone somewhere profits from all films, books, biographies, music, websites, etc. So maybe we should play it safe and remove all sourcing from Wikipedia. Dekkappai (talk) 16:37, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Are you being serious? My main objection to these links was the lack of sourcing. This is not unreasonable. And if you have reliable sources, then these films may be notable. (Not every film that wins an award needs be listed in an article about the entire genre, but that's another discussion.) / edg 19:59, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Mistake above: The links were removed from the main Pink film article. These films are listed also as award-winners at the Pink Grand Prix article. I'll try to start articles on them soon. Dekkappai (talk) 17:08, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Great. I'm glad this can be fixed.
Haven't heard from Hotaka (talk · contribs). Unless this changes, any further conversation we should move to our own Talk pages, or Talk:Pink film. / edg 19:59, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lonely Cow

edit

Hi, Hotaka-- glad to see you back. I notice you replaced the image in A Lonely Cow Weeps at Dawn with the DVD cover. Was the image I found the orignal poster? If so, that should be in the info box. However, we can start a section on "Availability" and put the image of the DVD cover in that section. Hope you stick around to help with the pink film articles. I find them very interesting, and I seem to be just about the only editor doing much work in that area. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 17:16, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Hotaka-- yes, if you have the original poster art, that is what we should use in the infobox. Maybe you can scan & upload it, then copy the text in my image into your image description-- Image descriptions must be done very carefully or they get removed. DVD covers are "second best" for articles on films. If we have original poster art, that is what we should use. Also, since you are affiliated with the pinkeiga company, you should be extra careful to not appear to be advertising for your company. I think your position give you a good advantage for knowledge and sourcing on these subjects-- and they do deserve articles-- but Wikipedia is very squeamish about "Conflict of Interest" when a person or company writes about themselves. I'll be very happy to help you with any of this, of course! Dekkappai (talk) 17:33, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm writing a quick article for New Tokyo Decadence - The Slave right now. I'll use your image. Dekkappai (talk) 18:42, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oops-- you just started the article! I'll add what I've got. Dekkappai (talk) 18:43, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Very good for a first article! One thing to be careful about: Don't copy the plot description exactly from a site, because that will be deleted as "copyright violation". I reworded the plot description and sourced it to the pinkeiga description. Dekkappai (talk) 18:53, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also-- keep in mind you don't have to use only English-language sourcing. If you know of good Japanese reviews or news coverage of these subjects, that will help. If you're interested in or know much about other areas of pop culture (AV for example), we can always use help with Japanese-language sourcing, because these subjects are often put up for deletion. Currently Airi & Meiri are up for deletion. If you could contribute anything that shows they are "notable" to help save the article, that would be apprecated! Regards. Help

edit

Hi, Hotaka-- I see you're working on S&M Hunter-- that's one I've been thinking about starting-- it deserves an article... In the meantime, the Deletion discussion of Airi & Meiri is going badly. If you know of any interview or article on them in Japanese, that would probably save the article. Also, I'm working on Yumika Hayashi. Do you know of any good articles, books, interviews, or other sources on her? Good luck, and thanks! Dekkappai (talk) 20:30, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Hotaka-- Even if Meiri is retired there must be old interview/articles... But it's so difficult to find articles on Japanese subjects like AV or pink eiga, even though I know in Japan there are many... And there must be a lot on Yumika Hayashi-- in fact she was in many pink eigas as well... The problem is, we have to be in Japan to be able to find these older materials, since they are not very often on the Internet-- at least not that I can find them. Anyway, thanks for looking! Dekkappai (talk) 22:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
YES!!! Thank you, Hotaka... The article is targeted for deletion because no one (English-speakers) can find information on them-- as if they are not "notable"-- yet you knew about them as soon as I asked, and were able to find an interview within just a few minutes. I think that alone is proof that they are "notable". Let me know if you can find more. Thanks again! Dekkappai (talk) 22:50, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, Hotaka-- they've removed that interview for 2 reasons. 1) it was a recording

2) it was from an AV. They want something in print from a newspaper, or magazine, or a TV or radio interview that is in print, I guess. Dekkappai (talk) 23:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Shiro Shimomoto

edit

Hi, Hotaka-- I've got two English books with a lot of mentions of Shiro Shimoto-- I'll add that information later. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 00:52, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes-- I know Japanese magazines/newspapers print articles on these subjects, but they don't put them on the Web. Or they put them up, and then take them down quickly. It's very frustrating... Anyway-- the two books, you probably know them already:
  1. Sharp, Jasper (2008). Behind the Pink Curtain: The Complete History of Japanese Sex Cinema. Guildford: FAB Press. ISBN 978-1-903254-54-7.
  2. Weisser, Thomas (1998). Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia: The Sex Films. Miami: Vital Books : Asian Cult Cinema Publications. ISBN 1-889288-52-7. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)
(I have the Weisser book with me and see Shimomoto a lot. My copy of the Sharp book is at home, but I assume he writes about Shimomoto also.) Dekkappai (talk) 01:08, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back

edit

Hi, Hotaka-- good to see you editing again. I've been busy starting articles on pink films and directors / actors from the Pink Grand Prix article. Feel free to add any sourcing or information on those films or people that you may have! Dekkappai (talk) 21:23, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nice-- I look forward to seeing Tsumugi. But for the article on the film, it's best to have the original Japanese theatrical poster in the infobox. We can start a section about the DVD releases (both Japanese and US) with citations to articles mentioning them, release dates, special features, etc. and then move the DVD cover image there. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 21:34, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes-- Thanks! I've just done a little copy edit on that new section. We should use the theatrical poster, if we have it, in the infobox, and then the DVD cover for sections about the DVD releases. If we don't have the theatrical poster though, a DVD cover in the infobox is fine. Dekkappai (talk) 22:18, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Other pink film awards?

edit

Hi, Hotaka. Can you find any information on pink film awards besides the Pink Grand Prix? At the pink film article, there are a few mentions of the "Zoom Up Awards" which ran from 1980 to 1994, but do you know of any complete listing-- all films and people who won awards for each year? Also, any awards that cover the time-period before 1980 would be helpful. Thanks! Dekkappai (talk) 17:21, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

"We Are the Pink School"

edit

Hi, Hotaka. I see you haven't been active here for a while, but if you look in, you might want to know: The bit about Sexy Battle Girls' showing at "We Are the Pink School" has been removed. I was going to add it again, and source the event, but I couldn't find a source which mentioned the film's showing at the event. If you have one, we could put this back into the article. Regards. Proposed deletion of New Tokyo Decadence – The Slave

edit

The article New Tokyo Decadence – The Slave has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet WP:NFILM; "9th best film" (determined as a fan vote) is a trivial award. Significant RS coverage not found. Please see also: Articles for deletion/Fascinating Woman: The Temptation of Creampie (2nd nomination)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
