Your help desk question
editDid you ever get the Wikidata problem fixed?— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:13, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi User:Vchimpanzee, thanks for your follow-up,
- do you mean my question about Pedro Miguel Caratini : well, obviously ,no...
- the problem is not on wikidata : while editing wikidata's item for this article, I noticed that, on the article, this person is dead in 1940 in the text, and 1978 in the infobox, while the category only mentions 20th century death... - the wikidata item can only be fixed after the article is first.
- as I have no knowledge in the subject, and no source to find the info, I asked the question on the Help desk. Maybe it is not the right place to ask : I had trouble to find my way among the very numerous pages that are available to ask a question...
- do you know who could adress this question ? and/or redirect it to the right place ?
- thanks for your help :) --Hsarrazin (talk on wd) 21:40, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- PS : I had not checked the history of the article (which was wrong...) - seems that the problem lies in this edit by @Flyer22 Reborn:. --Hsarrazin (talk on wd) 21:44, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- With that edit, I reverted problematic material. Vandalism. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 17:51, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
- I actually have no idea where you would get the help you need. I try to make sure all questions were answered, but sometimes I don't know. Maybe try asking again. Sometimes they'll tell you the correct place.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:14, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Flyer22 and Vchimpanzee:
- Sorry, I didn't get down far enough in the history...
- Seems the orginal article was put online by User:Saidneder, who last modified the death date in the infobox, forgetting to correct date in the text and category at the same time.
- All sources given are paper sources, impossible to consult online... but I found a MyHeritage source - don't know whether it's considered reliable on enwp. As it gives the same value for death as the article, I added it with ProveIt.
- Hope this will be ok, and a baseball fan from Dominica will be able to complete this stub :) --Hsarrazin (talk on wd) 20:18, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

wikidata
editHi.
What is the actual use/benefit of wikidata? Kindly ping while replying. —usernamekiran(talk) 14:18, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran:
- Hi,
- well, contrary to wikipedia, wikidata is a database, which stores structured data, not text. It stores all kind of data, available for all sister-projects, like wikipedia, wikisource, commons, etc. ;the same info is available, without having to search info everywhere (here I think of wikisource authors, for example); it is thus complementary to other projects...
- Info is structured, and thus can be queried -> like all persons born in 1919, 22 september
- also you can compare data and thus find errors and discrepancies, like people dead before they were born etc.
- I detected and nominated for merging hundreds of pages on all language wikipedias, for example.
- it also allowes to make statistics, thus be able to measure the gender gap on various projects, for example (which categories don't tell).
- it is also very useful for storing books references (for bibliographical templates, for ex.)... as a wikisource admin, I find it very useful to store the data of books we edit, and authors of these.
- if you want to know more about it, just come on the Project chat and discuss it with us :) --Hsarrazin (talk on wd) 15:19, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

editCreation of article
editHello, dear Helene! First of all, I would like to thank you for https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q84723004, since I am the author of the article in ru.wiki "Odinayev, Sabzali". At the same time, considering your high mastership of French, I would like to ask whether you could be interested in creating a fr.wiki article translated from the en.wiki version. If there is no way to do so, maybe you could advice someone who could do it. Regardless, I will be thankful for your response. Sincerely — Khurshed.yusufbekov (talk) 18:27, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
