GA rodent.

Hello again. Would you be able to GA review Rodent? Thanks. LittleJerry (talk) 02:25, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 August newsletter

The final of the 2014 WikiCup begins in a few short minutes! Our eight finalists are listed below, along with their placement in Round 4:

  1.   Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer, finished top of Pool A and was the round's highest scorer. Godot is a featured picture specialist, claiming large numbers of points due to high-quality scans of historical documents, especially banknotes.
  2.   Casliber (submissions) is a WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist every year since 2010. In the semi-final, he was Pool B's highest scorer. Cas's points primarily come from articles on the natural sciences.
  3.   Czar (submissions) was Pool A's runner-up. Czar's points come mostly from content related to independent video games, including both articles and topics.
  4.   Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Pool B's runner-up. Another featured picture specialist, many of Adam's points come from the restoration of historical media. He has been a WikiCup finalist twice before.
  5.   Cwmhiraeth (submissions) won the WikiCup in 2012 and 2013, and enters this final as the first wildcard. She focuses on biology-related articles, and has worked on several high-importance articles.
  6.   12george1 (submissions) is the second wildcard. George's points come primarily from meteorology-related articles. This year and last year, George was the first person in the competition to score.
  7.   Sturmvogel 66 (submissions), the third wildcard, was the 2010 champion and a finalist last year. His writes mostly on military history, especially naval history.
  8.   Bloom6132 (submissions), the fourth and final wildcard, has participated in previous WikiCups, but not reached any finals. Bloom's points are mostly thanks to did you knows, featured lists and good articles related to sport and national symbols.

We say goodbye to this year's semi-finalists.   Matty.007 (submissions),   ThaddeusB (submissions),   WikiRedactor (submissions),   Figureskatingfan (submissions),   Yellow Evan (submissions),   Prism (submissions) and   Cloudz679 (submissions) have all performed well to reach this stage of the competition, and we hope they will all be joining us again next year.

There are two upcoming competitions unrelated to the WikiCup which may be of interest to those who receive this newsletter. The Stub Contest will run through September, and revolves around expanding stub articles, especially high-importance or old stubs. In addition, a proposal has been made for a new competition, the GA Cup, which the organisers plan to run next year. This competition is based on the WikiCup and aims to reduce the good article review backlog.

There is now a thread for brainstorming on how next year's WikiCup competition should work. Please come along and share your thoughts- What works? What doesn't work? What needs changing? Signups for next year's competition will be open soon; we will be in touch. If, at this stage of the competition, you are keen to help the with the WikiCup, please do what you can to participate in review processes. Our finalists will find things much easier if the backlogs at good article candidates, featured article candidates, featured picture candidates and the rest are kept at a minimum. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Pycnonemosaurus

You once identified an abelisaur mount as Pycnonemosaurus, but then someone at a forum said he had talked to museum staff, who said it was just a generic abelisaur. I just did a google search on the name though, and I'm not sure about the results. This article mentions the name, and shows the mount, but does not seem to specify if they are the same.[1] These two mention the name, but seem to show different mounts? What do you think?[2][3] Maybe Google translate will help us.[4] FunkMonk (talk) 13:07, 19 September 2014 (UTC)\

Aha, so I might have been right! Based on what I can find of the known material of Pycnonemosaurus[5], the skeleton is a match, however, the hatchet-shaped crest is different in the two images, and the pubis (what I find to be on of the most distinguishing bones) is obscured. Originally, the two things that I thought matched Pycnonemosaurus to the mount were (A) the hatchet-shaped cnemial crest, and (B) the location of the museum. Pycnonemosaurus is from Brazil, and I'm fairly certain that that mount is also. The one thing that would guarantee that we have a match is if someone got the original publication, which specified which museum the remains are in, and it was the museum with the mount. Google translate might also help us solve the museum mystery. Ooh, on a different tab I just found a great tibia comparison of different taxa[6]. Thoughts about this? IJReid (talk) 14:34, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, the best case would of course be if we found an image of our mount with a caption/plaque that specifically identifies it. I think it would be hard to identify through the original fossils, since a big deal of reconstruction has probably been done on the mounts... By the way, this is what reminded me, scroll down and you can see many different restorations and skeletals of obscure Brazilian dinosaurs: http://zh.clicrbs.com.br/rs/noticias/planeta-ciencia/noticia/2014/09/conheca-os-21-dinossauros-descobertos-no-brasil-4598038.html FunkMonk (talk) 14:56, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

GA Cup - September 2014 Newsletter

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - September 2014

Welcome to the GA Cup! In less than 72 hours, the competition will begin! Before you all start reviewing nominations we want to make sure you understand the following:

  • This is a friendly competition so we don't want any cheating/breaking of the rules. However, if you do believe someone is going against the rules, notify the judges. All the rules are listed here.
  • If you are a new editor or new to reviewing Good article nominations, it is imperative that you read the 4 essays/guides listed under FAQ #4. If you do not understand something, ask a judge for clarification ASAP!
  • The competition is not entirely about who can review the most nominations. Per the "Scoring" page, there is different criteria in which you can earn more points. Theoretically, you could review 10 nominations and have 80 points but another user could have reviewed 5 nominations and have 100 points. Yes, we want you to review as many nominations as you can as this will greatly increase the number of points you earn, but you must also keep in mind that every single review will be looked over by a judge. If we find that you are "rubber-stamping" (in other words, the review is not complete but you still passed/failed the article) you may be disqualified without warning.

Also, rather than creating a long list on what to remember, make sure you have read the "Scoring", "Submissions", and "FAQ" pages.

Now for the one question that we guarantee you have: how on earth will the rounds work???

Yes, we never actually had a solid platform regarding how the rounds would work because we had no idea how many people would sign-up. Even though the competition is about to begin, because sign-ups are still open, it is impossible to say exactly how each round will work. As of now, we can confirm that Round 1 will have everyone compete in one big pool. Depending on the final number of participants after sign-ups close, a to-be-determined number of participants will move on (highest scorers will move on) to Round 2. We guarantee that the top 15 will move on, so make sure you aim for those top positions! Moving on to Round 2, participants will be split into pools of even numbers (for example, every pool will have 6 participants). The pools will be determined by a computer program that places participants by random. More details regarding Round 2 will be sent out at the end of Round 1.

It is important to note that the GA Cup will run on UTC time, so make sure you know what time that is for where you live! On that note, the GA Cup will start on October 1 at 0:00:01 UTC; Round 1 will end on October 29 at 23:59:59 UTC; Round 2 will commence on November 1 at 0:00:01 UTC. All reviews must be started after or on the start time of the round. If you qualify for Round 2 but do not complete a review before the end of Round 1, the review can be carried over to Round 2; however that review will not count for Round 1. Prior to the start of the the second round, participants who qualify to move on will be notified.

Finally, if you know anyone else that might be interesting in participating, let them know! Sign-ups close on October 15 so there is still plenty of time to join in on the action!

If you have any further questions, contact one of the judges or leave a message here.

On October 16 or 17, 2014, check the Pools page as we will post the exact number of participants that will move on to the next round. Because this number will be determined past the halfway mark of Round 1, we encourage you to aim to be in the top 15 as the top 15 at the end of the round are guaranteed to move on.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

Indricothere sources

Hi, are there any sources you want for Forstercooperia? Lucas & Sobus 1998 is kind of hard to get, I can send it to you. I only got it because someone from the resource request actually scanned all the relevant pages in the book for me! FunkMonk (talk) 18:57, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, I would definitely appreciate getting access to Lucas & Sobus 1998. Btw, JSTOR actually has quite a lot of indricothere sources as well. Want to collaborate on Forstercooperia, Juxia, Urtinotherium, and finally Indricotheriinae? Soon, I will actually start some illustrations of indricotheres for their articles, of course excluding Paraceratherium. IJReid (talk) 19:44, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
Could be fun (was thinking of starting Forstercooperia, nice that you did it), though I will be busy with hohoopoe starling for the next few weeks, and won't have much more time due to real life work. You should get Prothero's book, the only one in existence specifically about the group I think. Though it can be a bit hard to read at places. I'll send you the Lucas & Sobus scans on email. GA Cup -Round 1 Newsletter

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - Round 1

As we move into the middle of Round 1, we wanted to report some of the lessons we've learned thus far, as well as announce a major rule change going into Round 2, which begins November 1. Remember, sign-ups for this year's Cup ends on September 15.

Thus far, we're very happy with the results of the competition. One of our major goals, reducing the long backlog at GAN, is well on the way to being accomplished, mostly due to the enthusiastic efforts of Jonas Vinther, who has earned over 250 points. Over 80 reviews have been made thus far. Thank you all for your efforts and for your part in making the GA Cup a success.

However, this is the inaugural year of the GA Cup, so there have been some unforeseen circumstances that have come up. One has been a glaring inadequacy with the rules, which the judges feel makes the competition unfair. As a result, there will be a major change in the rules, starting at the beginning of Round 2:

  • Your review must provide feedback/suggestions for improvement, and then you must wait until the nominator has responded and all issues/suggestions have been resolved before you can pass the article. Failure to follow this rule will result in disqualification.

What this means is that you must provide some feedback to the article's nominator, and must wait for him or her to respond before passing the article. If the nominator has not responded in the standard 7 days, you can fail the article. We're instituting this rule change to prevent the possibility of competitors passing articles for the sake of passing articles (or failing them) and to gain more points. We believe that the change will make it more fair to all competitors in the GA Cup.

Also, in case you haven't noticed, we increased the "guarantee" for Round 2 to 25 participants. The exact number will be decided in the near future.

We thank your for your participation, and for your flexibility and understanding as we learn what works and what doesn't work in this competition.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

GA Cup Newsletter Correction

Hi everyone,

It was brought to the attention of the judges that there was an error in the newsletter sent out earlier today.

Sign-ups for the GA Cup will close on October 15, 2014, not September 15, 2014 (as mentioned in the newsletter).

Sorry for any confusion.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

GA Cup - Round 1 Newsletter #2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - Round 1

Hello GA Cup competitors!

The judges have learned a great deal in this first part of the competition, and we appreciate your patience with us as we've figured out what works and what doesn't work. As we reported in our last newsletter, an inadequacy in the scoring system has been illuminated in the past 15 days, which has resulted in a major change in the rules. It has also resulted in one withdrawal.

To ensure fairness, we've decided to further increase the number of participants moving onto Round 2. Everyone who has reviewed at least one article will automatically be moved forward, and will be placed in pools. You have until October 29 to take advantage of this opportunity. It is our hope that this will make up for the unforeseen glitch in our scoring system.

Best of wishes to all of you as you continue to help improve articles and make Wikipedia a better place.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

Hi, do you think you could make this[7] cladogram for hoopoe starling? Without border. I intent to take it to GA and FA soon... FunkMonk (talk) 19:23, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

He, done. Btw, I'm thinking of creating a subpage of my sandbox specifically for cladogram requests. I will place it here. Anyway, you can copy the code if you like, or I can add it to the article myself under a specified location. IJReid (talk) 01:10, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

GA Cup - Round 2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - Round 2

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. Jaguar took out Round 1 with an amazing score of 238. In a tight race for second, Peacemaker67 and Ritchie333 finished second and third with 152 and 141 points, respectively.

Two users have scored the maximum five bonus points for article length (60,000 characters+). Anotherclown reviewed Spanish conquest of Yucatán (77,350 characters) and MrWooHoo reviewed Communist Party of China (76,740 characters). The longest review was by Bilorv who reviewed Caldas da Rainha. The review was approximately 22,400 characters which earned s/he two bonus points (20, 000 - 29, 999 characters).

In Round 1, 117 reviews were completed, making the first round of the GA Cup a success! A total of 86 articles were removed from the backlog during the month of October! We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 2 so we can lower the backlog as much as possible.

To qualify for the second round, one completed review was needed, which 28 users accomplished. Participants have been randomly put into 7 pools of 4; the top 2 in each pool will move onto Round 3. There will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 15th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 2 will start on November 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on November 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here

Also, remember that a major rule change will go into affect starting on November 1, which marks the beginning of Round Two. Round 1 displayed a weakness in the rules, which we are correcting with this new rule. We believe that this change will make the competition more inherently fair. The new rule is: Your review must provide feedback/suggestions for improvement, and then you must wait until the nominator has responded and all issues/suggestions have been resolved before you can pass the article. Failure to follow this rule will result in disqualification. The judges will strictly enforce this new rule.

Good luck and remember to have fun!

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

Your GA nomination of Patagosaurus

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Patagosaurus you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of FunkMonk -- FunkMonk (talk) 17:21, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello IJReid. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Your GA nomination of Patagosaurus

The article Patagosaurus you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Patagosaurus for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Sciurumimus illustration

I notice you have altered my original illustration of Sciurumimus without stating the image is altered; I also note that (a) your addition is sub-standard and detracts from the quality of the image, (b) you have uploaded a low quality JPG instead of my original PNG file. It would have been nice to have informed me, particularly as I do not have the original file to make alterations to. If you still have a copy of the original file I would appreciate it if you would send it to me at arkadyDOTroseATgmailDOTcom as I am unhappy having a substandard version of my work online like this. Collaboration on something?

Now that two long running FAC projects of mine are coming to an end (which you've both reviewed, funnily enough), I was thinking whether you'd like to collaborate on some article for FAC? You've certainly gained writing experience with your GAs, so I think you'd be up to the task, and starting out with a collaboration could be a good start. Only problem is I'm kind of busy with work, so I wouldn't be able to edit within a set deadline, so might be drawn out. As for which articles, anything extinct above the amphibian level I guess, but preferably with many available images of all sorts (restorations, fossils, etc.), and enough written about them, yet not too expansive and scattered a literature. I'll let you in on a secret, I only started expanding articles to make room for more images! I also have quite an aversion to long sections without images... Oh, and the taxon should probably be stable too when it comes to classification and known specimens. FunkMonk (talk) 17:54, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, what to do. I have done some work on Poekilopleuron, which can have many images, and some recent publications. I would be open to a pterosaur, sauropod, or theropod, but I'm not overly good at ornithischians. I would not recommend something named very recently, as they tend to have less publication history and free images, but something too old could lead to some problems with classification and species. Something that one of us have drawn would possibly be even better, for then we would have the motive of making a good article for our drawing, or maybe vice versa. IJReid (talk) 01:52, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps a large theropod? Carcharodontosaurus, Giganotosaurus, or Deinocheirus? They don't get much attention here anymore, but have plenty of images and info... Troodon, where you had a drawing, could had been nice, but it seems the genus will be broken up before long... Also, Nigersaurus was only described 15 years ago, but there was enough info for a FAC... FunkMonk (talk) 08:33, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Okay, how about Deinocheirus. It has many images, even though they are mostly of the same thing, you did a drawing for it, and recently, many papers about it have come out. I have a paper version of the article, as well as the supplementary information, and if this paper was describing the taxon, it would literally be larger than quite a few FAs. I might try to do some drawings of parts of the skeleton, most likely the arms, legs and back, which would give the images more variation. Lets continue this on the talk page. IJReid (talk) 14:54, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Alright. Though back and forth comments between FAC collaborators are usually done on their talk pages, so the articles don't get cluttered, but we can continue on my page if you prefer. I'll ask on Commons how closely we can imitate diagrams... Maybe we could have more images showing proposed behaviour as well. We should try to get the original description... FunkMonk (talk) 14:58, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
And yikes, how did you find the skull!? We're definitely gonna do this one then! I will try to retouch the image and upload it as a separate file. I'm wondering what the skull underneath is... FunkMonk (talk) 15:03, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
He, I guess my habit of randomly looking at every file in a category finally paid off greatly. The user also uploaded a photo of the holotype of Proceratosaurus, which I added, and likely will upload more, important pictures from the Munich show. Btw, I think the skull below is that of another Asian ornithomimid, probably Anserimimus, Gallimimus, Asiaornithomimus, or a deinocheirid, like Beishanlong (no skull of Garudimimus is known). IJReid (talk) 15:23, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Heheh, there's also a trick I use on Commons which has helped me find nice images that weren't categorised, if you place ' in front of the name and search, you'll see all files where that word is used, so you can find them even if they are not in categories... And I have this customised Flickr search bookmarked, by the way, I check it several times a week: http://www.flickr.com/search/?s=rec&l=commderiv&ct=5&mt=all&adv=1&w=all&q=dinosaur&m=text Replacing dinosaur with fossil and other words often give nice results, often not identified properly, though. FunkMonk (talk) 15:28, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
I have a version of that too. Hey, you beat me to upload that hand image by only a few minutes! Eh, lets just continue this discussion here. Btw, I probably won't do any more work on Deinocheirus until our GA reviews are completed. IJReid (talk) 15:34, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Until that, we can perhaps divide tasks. What sections do you prefer to write about? I'm a bit f a taxonomy/classification/history guy myself... FunkMonk (talk) 15:39, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
I tend to be good at classification/paleobiology/history sections. I will start compiling all the references I have here, if they have something that could improve the article. I can do the paleobiology, you can do history and the lead, and how about we split the classification, as it will end up as quite a monstrosity. We can have as much time as we need to do this, as I don't have anything else that will take up large portions of my time, apart from school. What skeletal elements should I illustrate? IJReid (talk) 01:30, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm not certain that the current taxobox image is the best. A fossil would be good, so that rules out your drawing and the arm illustration. Is it possible that the hands are pronated in the current image? I think that the hands of the british museum mount might also be inaccurate, as I don't think that theropods arms could supinate. If both these are inaccurate, I think the best photo of the arms would be File:Deinocheirus mirificus.jpg. Other possible contenders for the honor of being in the taxobox are the photo of the claw, close-up of the hand, and maybe best of all, the skull. IJReid (talk) 02:22, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Answering both comments here: I think our greatest omission of images is the distinct vertebrae/"hump". As for infobox, I was thinking the same, hands would be good, because it is what it is named for, we might just have to look for a more "correct" image. The NHM isn't too bad, it doesn't look supinated, looks like the upper arms are just rotated by the shoulder, which is fine... Just a claw would be too uninformative, for example. As for writing the lead, that's done at the very end, so probably doesn't count for anything until we've written the article itself... FunkMonk (talk)
  • By the way, this podcast[8] indicates more unpublished Deinocheirus stuff is known, that will make the animal even weirder. So seems we can't make an entirely definitive article yet... FunkMonk (talk) 12:24, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

GA Cup - Round 3

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - Round 3

Greetings, all! We hope that all of our American GA Cup competitors had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.

Friday saw the end of Round 2. Two from 7 pools, plus a tie score and one wildcard (16 in all) moved onto the next round. Some pools were more competitive than others. Round 2's highest scorer was 3family6, with an impressive 255 points. Good888, who came in second place overall with 202 points, reviewed the most articles (19). The wildcard slot for Round 2 went to Jaguar. Congrats to all!

Round 3 will have 15 competitors in three pools. The key to moving forward in Round 2 seemed to be reviewing articles with the longest nomination dates; almost everyone who moved forward nominated at least one article from the pink nomination box (20 points) or reviewed articles that had languished in the queue for over 5 months (18 points). The GA Cup was also used to promote a group of articles about The Boat Race, a rowing race held annually since 1856 between Oxford University and Cambridge University, on the River Thames. 17 Boat Race articles were promoted to GA in November.

In Round 2, 110 reviews were completed, as compared to 117 in Round 1. The GA Cup continues to be a success. This month, we got a report from User:AmericanLemming, who maintains the GA statistics, that in October, there was a net gain of 201 articles nominated for GA. He thought that more open GANs could mean that more editors are submitting more of their articles to the GAN process. In addition, having a high-throughput of GANs means that more articles get reviewed more quickly, which reduces the frustration of potentially waiting several months to get an article reviewed. The activity in Round 2 of the GA Cup seems to bear that out. It's our hope that the competitors' enthusiasm continues in Round 3, and we can continue to make a difference in helping more editors improve their articles.

For Round 3, participants have been randomly put in 3 pools of 5 contestants each; the top two in each pool progressing, as well as the top 2 of all remaining users. Round 3 will start on December 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on December 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.

There have been a couple of rules clarifications to announce. We're slightly changing the wording to the second bullet in "General rules", which now reads: You may only score points in a round for reviews which have been completed in that round. We're also including this clarification: Only reviews started during the competition are eligible. We have also lost a judge, so there are now only three judges.

Good luck and remember to have fun as we move into the holiday season. It is the judges' hope that every competitor in the GA Cup has a joyous holiday season and Happy New Year.

Cheers from Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Langstonia

Hi, I recently finished the expansion of the article of Langstonia in Spanish. Could you help me to translate to English?--Rextron (talk) 10:00, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

Ok, I translate the rest. Cheers and good look with Deinocheirus!--Rextron (talk) 08:13, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and may we wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2015 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. We have a few important announcements concerning the future of the WikiCup.

  • We would like to announce that Josh (J Milburn) and Ed (The ed17), who have been WikiCup judges since 2009 and 2010 respectively, are stepping down. This decision has been made for a number of reasons, but the main one is time. Both Josh and Ed have found that, over the previous year, they have been unable to devote the time necessary to the WikiCup, and it is not likely that they will be able to do this in the near future. Furthermore, new people at the helm can only help to invigorate the WikiCup and keep it dynamic. Josh and Ed will still be around, and will likely be participating in the Cup this following year as competitors, which is where both started out.
  • In a similar vein, we hope you will all join us in welcoming Jason (Sturmvogel 66) and Christine (Figureskatingfan), who are joining Brian (Miyagawa) to form the 2015 WikiCup judging team. Jason is a WikiCup veteran, having won in 2010 and finishing in fifth this year. Christine has participated in two WikiCups, reaching the semi-finals in both, and is responsible for the GA Cup, which she now co-runs.
  • The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. While it may be impossible to please everyone, the judges will make every effort to ensure that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn (talk), The ed17 (talk), Miyagawa (talk), Sturmvogel 66 (talk) and Figureskatingfan (talk) 18:54, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Song

I like your song:

Oh, you'd better watch out, you'd better not cry, you'd better not pout, I'm telling you why

Christmas Velociraptor is coming to town
