1 Develothon Overview
8500 Kms, 40 days, 40 technical briefings, 31 cities, 11 states, 2 cars, 1 IBM Team. Develothon is Annual nationwide Developer Skill Marathon created by IBM developerWorks. A program aimed at helping the software professional and student community in India develop skills in emerging technologies of Cloud Computing and Web2.0 along with IBM Software Brands. The 40day back-to-back technical session along with developerWorks unique UnConference styled "tranformational learning" format ensured that IBM Software skills remained highly market valued.
Develothon, derived from 'developerWorks" and "Marathon" is IBM's unique skill coverage program to address IT Professional's IBM skill needs of India, covering 31 cities cross 11 states in 40 days delivering 42 Technical Briefings in 2 innova's with develooperWorks Team India travelling more than 8,500 kilometers on road. Flagged-off by IBM SWG Director Pradeep Nair on March 22nd, 2010 at Sahara Star Hotel criss-crossed India ennding back in Mumbai on April 30, 2010. Extending IBM software footprint to IBM customers, technical community and Academic Centre Of Excellence, Develothon successfully delivered 14 technical briefings for IT professionals in 13 cities as LIVE events along with 26 Academic Institutions for more streamlined tech adoption. IBM Certification Camp on IBM Software offered in 5 cities to ensure skill enablement lifecycle is successfully completed. Develothon also is a got-to-market vehicle for generating awareness on IBM's Smarter Planet Agenda with sessions taken back-to-back, travelling throughout India in 2 Innova Vans.

1.2 UnConference
Styled in the very successful and novel audience driven unconference style, the IBM Develothon brought about active transformational learning thru 14 Unconferences. 75 Speakers now forming 'Elite Talent pool' delivered sessions, as per audience's choice. A truly 'by the developer, for the developer and to the developer' democratic style of skill enablement; top 5-7speakers presentation abstract were voted LIVE by audience for session delivery, which by end-of-day again got voted for TOP Speaker Trophy and certificate. Develothon identified 75+ Speakers from Customers, SI, & Academia for nurturing as exclusive coterie of evangelists, influencers and IBM Ambassadors. To-date they have formed the best evangelists within IBM's vibrant My developerWorks Community.
1.3 Emerging Technology & Agenda
Develothon deivered half-day sessions. Aligned to IBM Software as skill-building exercise and themed under Smarter Planet Iniative, Develothon ensured the India's Tier 2/Tier 3 city audience were synced with emerging technology sessions of Cloud Computing and Web2.0, to ensure their skill are market valued. Metro Citiesm which already have IBM Footprint had agenda that tied 5 primary brand pillars of software ; Rational, Information Management, WebSphere, Lotus and Tivoli to IBM's Smarter Planet Theme of Dynamic Infrastructure, Smart Work, New Intelligence and Smarter Products based based on local georgraphic needs.
Related assets were also aligned and published on developerWorks India group on My developerWorks to ensure Develothon Live coverage/feeds were integrated to community platform for nurturing, but the 'skill story' continued throughout.
2. Skill Marathon
The developerWorks team (along with the IBM Academic Initiative team) comprising of Pradeep Nair, Anil Menon, Himanshu Goyal, Kunal Dureja, Bharati Muthu, Dhirender Nirwani, Apra Sahney, Prasanna K Paramasivam, Saravanan Sekar, Mayank Jha, Paramantapa Dasgupta and Mohammad M Shiddique, conducted the program in a relay format with each set of team members passing the baton on to another set of team members during the trip thus ensuring continuity across the complete 40 days of the journey.
2 Innova's with IBM Smarter Planet Branding along with My developerWorks messaging were used through-out with interesting social media activity in developerWorks India group site like "Cars & Clicks" ensured the themes were given appropriate 'recall messaging' agenda.
A collaboration with Shroff Publishers (the re-printers of IBM Redbooks and distributors of IBM Press books) ensured that they travelled the complete route, to set up and man a stall at each of the events displaying the Redbooks and IBM Press books. Develothon ensured there was optimum balance between offline and online engagements, making IBM Software highly accessible and 'personalised'.
