I have recently been working on an article concerning a small town. WHen trying to cite my references, the template appears with dozens of boxes which are not specified in the text. Firstly, te authors name was not included. Is my source rubbish, or are these boxes un-necessary? Thanks.

The little squares icon that appears after the word "references" above? That's just how Wikipedia indicates an external link (that is, a link to something outside of Wikipedia, rather than to a link to another Wikipedia article.). You'll see them on other folks' articles as well, e.g., if you look at the references through this link: Apple#References. So it's not complaining about your sources. Hi, I am guessing you are now living in Sydney? Welcome! We have a meetup next weekend. Wikipedia:Meetup/Sydney/May 2012. It would be great if you can come along. Invitation

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia.
