Welcome!

edit

Hello, Isabasil, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with Wiki Education; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Notes

edit

Here are those notes I mentioned:

  • This needs to be edited for tone. Words like 'shockingly' need to be taken out, as these are subjective terms and inherently non-neutral, as what may be shocking to one may not be to the next person. For example, someone may argue that Capone remained silent on the matter because she didn't want to draw attention to herself any more than necessary or because she wanted to avoid causing issue with others.
It's also important to avoid terms like 'ironically' or anything that could be seen as us reacting to the topic of Mae Capone and her life. Aside from this posing an issue of it being subjective and non-neutral, it also makes the writing too casual.
  • Mae should be referred to by her last name - the only time we should refer to someone by their first name is when the article is about a family or someone is more widely known under their first name (typically when they use it as a stage name, like Dr. Ruth).
  • Avoid all original research. We cannot theorize or create any conclusions on our own - we can only summarize what others have explicitly stated in reliable sources. So for example, the statement "Though this behavior was likely inspired by the same maternal concern that motivated her more politically and socially active counterparts." would be seen as original research since it looks to be a conclusion we came up with ourselves as it wasn't sourced.
  • I'm a little concerned that she may not be independently notable of her husband. What's very key here is that we show where Mae Capone has received coverage in independent and reliable sources, that focuses on her rather than on her husband. The page on her was previously redirected to her husband, so we need to really firmly establish notability. I'd be surprised if there wasn't enough coverage out there, but it's always possible.

I hope that this all helps! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:12, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
