Will do. Alan16 (talk) 13:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

There was a bit of confusion between me and Kevin about whether you meant you did not want to receive the newsletter or did not want to be a member any more. From your last message I assume you want removed from the members list. If you confirm this I'll remove you. Also, you can still vote, and I'd encourage you to do so - the more votes the better. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 11:13, 1 July 2009 (UTC).
From what you said I thought you wanted removed, so I have done that. If you clarify just to make sure. And remember to vote - I probably go on about that too much... Regards, Alan16 (talk) 11:40, 1 July 2009 (UTC).
Right, sorted. Kevin has re-added that the list for people who don't want communications - your name is on it, so you shouldn't have a problem from now on. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 14:49, 1 July 2009 (UTC).

Ip user doing vandalism

There is this ip user, 98.196.203.155, he put profanity and vandalised all four pages he has edited, and hes been reverted all those times, I do not think that this has been brought to the attention of an administrator MeteorMan7228 02:58, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

You're right; I got that one wrong; I was hastily going thru the newpages, and I really slipped up on that one. Thanks for catching it. Tally-ho! BobAmnertiopsisChatMe! 02:10, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Pippa Black

Hi Islander, I'm sorry to have to trouble you in this way.

I did put a request in for this through the page protection link but it seems to have been overlooked. People have requested things since then and have had a reply. Anyway I was wondering if it is possible to have semi-protection for the Pippa Black page? The reason being, it has been vandalised about 10 or 11 times within the last month or so and twice within the last 3 days. Whoever's doing this is doing it from a different IP address each time but nine times out of ten the vandalism is coming back to the same ISP. I was wondering if it was possible to get semi-protection for the page for say 3 weeks so that the only way you can edit the page is to sign in to a Wikipedia account?

I hope you are well and thanks for taking the time to read this. --5 albert square (talk) 17:15, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

It would appear that the queue has now been cleared - apologies for not getting to this sooner. TalkIslander 17:52, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Jack Colvin

I understand the rules does not justify protection. The problem is that I am not on wikipedia enough to watch the page all the time. Since the first edits the page has contained the unsourced claims for 54 of the last 58 days because the vandal is being persistent:

  • vandalized on 20 June, remains for 27 days.
  • reverted on 16 July, re-added 2 days later, remains for 24 days.
  • reverted by me on 9 August, re-added 1 day later, remains for 6 days.
  • reverted by me on 15 August, re-added after 1 day.
  • reverted by me on 16 August, re-added the same day.

If it cannot be protected, can other editors be alerted to the page so that it is not just me who is watching? 81.106.229.34 (talk) 19:25, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, pages cannot be protected pre-emptively, and currently that page doesn't exhibit enough vandalism to warrant protection. If you feel that more people should be watching it, bring it up at WP:BLP. TalkIslander 17:51, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Zzzap! episode guide problems

Hi, remember me? I used to edit the bodger and badger page a lot.

I'm having problems with this IP user 92.10.2.196 he keeps vandalising this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ZZZap!_episodes. This user keeps adding episodes which are untrue or do not make sense and sometimes completly messing up the article. He has been doing this for months and it's annoying me, because I have spent a long time building this article and trying to compolete the episode guide and I have to keep reverting his edits and I just don't know what to do, be good if he can be blocked!

skchandon

Hi, you have deleted my page regarding "Bengali Email". I have read the rule G11 and as per my understanding- my page may have promoted one company but it still retained one true fact which was "EmailBangla.com was the first true Unicode Based Bengali Email System". Therefore, the second part of G11 would be invalid for my case. it would not be fundamentally re-written. I would hope if you could clarify any mistakes in my above assumption.Skchandon (talk) 17:10, 18 August 2009 (UTC) Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skchandon (talkcontribs) 17:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

If I'm going to be honest, I believe that it would need a fundamental rewrite to cease being an advert. G11-aside, I'm not even sure that an article on this subject would be notable. I suggest you rewrite the article in your userspace (for example, at User:Skchandon/Bengali Email, and then run it's suitability past an administrator, who can move it to the mainspace. TalkIslander 17:42, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I have created the User:Skchandon/Bengali Email page. Please take a look thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skchandon (talkcontribs) 20:49, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

That still reads like an advertisement for emailbangla.com. You have also failed to show why the subject is notable. TalkIslander 21:16, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure how to change the "feels like" attribute of an article but I believe its notable because writing Email in Bengali has been a challenge. Even when Unicode came, the range of Bangla characters were not properly rendered. To this date, java does not support proper Bangla font rendering. If you search with the term "bangla email" you will see there are several entries that says people are still trying to create a Bangla email system. It is not like English or French where such things as emailing or texting are a given thing. Therefore, I judge from that point alone it is notable. I did not go on about making a point of why its notable in the article itself, because I felt that would appear even more promotional. I would hope you would look again tell me given the background I just gave you if there are any improvents can be made to make it look like less promotional. Thanks24.57.133.94 (talk) 23:37, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

File:IPod Touch 2.0.png

Hi. I saw that you deleted the deletion tag for the second generation iPod touch image. Technically, you're supposed to use another template to dispute it, but because I agree with your reasoning, I'll let sleeping dogs lie. The only reason I bring this up is that File:1st gen ipod touch.jpg was also tagged, and I disputed it using the template, per protocol. Now MBisanz dleted it using Twinkle, probably without even looking at my template. So we now have two essentially identical images, both nominated for deletion on grounds of improper fair use, when a free image would just show a blank screen (useless). I go by protocol and "my" image is deleted. You don't and "your" image isn't. So what do I do? HereToHelp (talk to me) 14:33, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Use of flags in infobox

Hey, sorry to bring this old discussion back up, but what is the ruling on flags in the infobox? After looking for it, reading this discussion which had no consensus, I saw that it was marked as resolved on the Admin discussion page here. I found no decision either way. Thanks Xeworlebi (tc) 18:09, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

There basically is no ruling - including flags is fine, and included flags should not be removed. Equally infoboxes without flags need not have them added. It's an issue that should really be discussed again, and consensus obtained. TalkIslander 19:38, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
How come it was marked as solved on the Admins discussion page? I really hope this gets discussed again and a consensus is reached because it's really annoying when the flags get removed and you become the bad guy for re-adding them. Xeworlebi (tc) 19:50, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
It was marked as 'solved' because that particular post on ANI was to request someone to close the ongoing discussion. Regardless of the outcome, they did, so that request was 'solved'.It does indeed need to be discussed, but right now I don't have time to start a discussion; feel free to do so yourself, and if I get a moment I'll give my opinion. TalkIslander 20:13, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Administrators do not determine editing policy or "overrule" the consensus determined repeatedly over the course of years at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (icons) and its predecessor. —Centrxtalk • 22:39, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

That's rich from someone who throws around comments like "I would outrank User:Islander many different ways". Now, before you throw out any more toys, please look at the situation as a whole, and see that I have determined nothing - I was just pointing out the conclusion of a rather long and tedious discussion held at the television infobox template talkpage a while back. TalkIslander 16:17, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Just letting you know that the discussion is back, if you're still willing to voice you opinion about it. Xeworlebi (tc) 16:33, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of UK telephone code misconceptions

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is UK telephone code misconceptions. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UK telephone code misconceptions. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Alton Towers TH13TEEN

Hi. I notice that you amended my input into this article. I am the person you originally acredited as designer of the ride, but Candy Holland rightfully deserves to be named as lead designer. Since my retirement, I am now classed as a "consultant". Candy is the person responsible for the ride's overall design. You also reversed my edit regarding a switchback. I think I am highly qualified to know that in rollercoaster parlance, a switchback is a vertical undulation in the track, whereas the mechanism described in the article is a track switch. Thank you. John Wardley. --Bartlettmike707 (talk) 09:16, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Mass-deletion request

Hey, every single episode article of Flashpoint (List of Flashpoint episodes) fails notability guidelines for television episodes, have no sources and only include a "Plot" section. Half of them are created by BookManiac42 (talk), the other half by ShdSlyr2 (talk). What is the best approach for delete/redirect request? Mass-Prod tagging seems a bit excessive. Hi Islander. You recently reverted an edit I'd made to Wanker, on the grounds that it "appeared to be unconstructive". I believe that my edit was constructive, and so I've put it back with a more detailed edit summary that hopefully explains its purpose.

If that's unsatisfactory, could you please explain in more detail what I need to do to get my edit accepted? I was just trying to provide a citation for an unsourced claim.

Bankhanda

Hi,

I noticed that you speedied this article, I was in the middle of flagging it for improvement (I'm not otherwise associated with the article) and have added a few basics to establish that it is a village and falls under our normal conventions of allowing articles about places to persist. Personally I'd give a bit more of a grace period for place articles before deleting them just in case they can be sorted out with a simple Google search. Thanks (talk) 10:35, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Islander,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 22:56, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
