- Speedy deletion criterion T3 (duplication and hardcoded instances) has been repealed following a request for comment.
- You can now put pages on your watchlist for a limited period of time.
- By motion, standard discretionary sanctions have been temporarily authorized
for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes)
. The effectiveness of the discretionary sanctions can be evaluated on the request by any editor after March 1, 2021 (or sooner if for a good reason). - Following the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Barkeep49, BDD, Bradv, CaptainEek, L235, Maxim, Primefac.

Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 19
News and updates associated with user scripts from the past month (December 2020).
Hello everyone and welcome to the 19th issue of the Wikipedia Scripts++ Newsletter:
Scripts Submit your new/improved script here
|
- Voting in the m:Community Wishlist Survey 2021 is ongoing until December 21, 2020. There are 15 proposals in the "bots and gadgets" category that may be of interest.
- A script to help list discussions at WP:ANRFC (request)
- A script to allow undoing edits despite conflicting intermediary edits (request)
- ...and many more, all available at Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests
- The Watchlist Expiry feature worked on by the Community Tech team has been enabled on Wikipedia. For scripts that include watching or unwatching pages, developers may want to update their code to take advantage of the new functionality. See the documentation on mediawiki.org.
- As noted in the prior issue, Enterprisey's links-in-logs script has now been implemented as part of MediaWiki core. By my count, this is his third script that was replaced by implementing the code in MediaWiki core or an extension, along with link-section-edits and abusefilter-hide-search. Additionally, his reply-link script is being converted in part to mw:Extension:DiscussionTools. Are there any other scripts that might be worth integrating directly in MediaWiki? Thoughts would be welcome at Wikipedia talk:Scripts++.
As always, if anyone else would like to contribute, help is appreciated. Stay safe, and happy holidays! --DannyS712 (talk) 00:19, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Nana Man
Berrely, I just want to let you know that the article I created does not need any citations as it is about my own comic books.
Thank you, Bs cool 2009 Bs cool 2009 (talk) 12:30, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi there Bs cool 2009, first of all, please make sure to declare your conflict of interest with {{UserboxCOI}} and adding {{Connected contributor}} to the draft talk. Regardless, even if you created the series, you still need references to prove the article is notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Specifically, you need to follow the guidelines as WP:NBOOK. — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs 12:54, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
re done
Berrely, I have re-done my article Nana Man with citations and it is up for review. Thank you, Bs cool 2009 (talk) 15:58, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Just want to ask what the issue is with the revision here [1]. As far as I know, Wikipedia policy does not say you cannot summarize copyrighted work, only that you can't quote the text word-by-word. Is the new summary that I made still too close to the original source text? If so, please provide some kind of clarification regarding how different the summary should be from the original. Thank you. --User:Qahramani44, 18:53, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Qahramani44, apologies, I was looking at the edit summary of the previous diff and got confused. I have reinstated the edit. Sorry for the inconvinience, have a good day! — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs 18:57, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Berrely, Qahramani44 is showing a different revision that came later, not the original one we talked about on IRC.
- 1. These are the two revisions we discussed and which I showed you screenshots of the book's text of how it was verbatim copy-paste. [2] [3] (for comparison with the book's text https://imgur.com/a/eOjxV8O ).
- 2. Then, after we had that, came your warning to Qahramani44 for the copyright violation. [4]
- 3. After your warning to Qahramani44, they then made this revision [5] (reverting unrelated things in the process and also still including some copy-pasted wording/phrases from the source) which is what you had seen and reverted [6], which was different from the original verbatim copyright violation that Qahramani44 had reverted back.
- So yes, Qahramani44 had originally brought back verbatim copyright violation in 2 articles. Hopefully that clears up any confusion there. Saucysalsa30 (talk) 02:36, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- Right, I think that we already knew all of that, but thanks for the summary, Saucy! Isn't it wonderful that we were able to retain potentially valuable information from an academic specialist by taking the time to summarize it rather than just deleting it wholesale? I certainly think so!TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 02:59, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- TheTimesAreAChanging, ah of course, more of your stalking. So if you claim to already know this, then why are you and Qahramani44 erroneously claiming there was no copyright violation? You're contradicting yourself here. :) Saucysalsa30 (talk) 03:36, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- Saucysalsa30, I don't think this is stalking, they came across you once on an article. — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs 07:56, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- Berrely, just to clarify, they came across me in the Iraqi invasion of Iran article, then stalked my contribution history to make reverts and edit war in two other unrelated articles which is textbook WP:HOUNDING. Saucysalsa30 (talk) 16:30, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi
Hello, I hope you're good. Thank you for editing the page, as titled above. The page has also been tagged "orphan". I've been able to link it to another page, and the subject has been included in the "Notable Alumni" section of Lagos State University. Does that address the issue? I'm willing to learn if there are other things to do. Thank you. JideAluko (talk) 12:07, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- JideAluko, yep. Tag removed. — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs 12:08, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

City / city / City
Thanks for the thanks! (If you see what I mean.) I did another one, with the same logic, but I then realized that it would look incredibly arsey to follow you around like (please insert amusing simile here). So I won't, but I hope you will forgive me if I do the odd one or two that I see in passing, without attempting to turn it into a full-scale persecution? Cheers DBaK (talk) 13:03, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- DBaK, honestly thank you, I genuinely didn't know that "City" is capitalised and I will remember for the future. I'm fine if you find anymore reverting it, thanks for telling me! — Yours, Berrely • Talk∕Contribs 13:12, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, thank you so much for the nice response! That's very good of you. Yeah, it is one of those annoying geographical/nomenclature tricks. You sometimes can't even tell immediately from the context whether people actually mean the city or the City. Living just N of it and working in a borough VERY close by I try to be careful what I say but it's hell when talking to visitors etc ... Cheeers! DBaK (talk) 14:22, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Fox Business people
A tag has been placed on Category:Fox Business people requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Ref. for Kinmen Massacre Redirect been added as instructed
Good morning, Berrely, thank you for commenting on the Kinmen Massacre entry of the "Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects and categories", I have added the example reference links as requested, except the original international journalists' reportages (from Hong Kong for instance) which would take too much time and difficult to recover after 32 years. Were there more I can assist, please feel free to let me know at anytime of your convenience. Sincerely yours, Mickie-Mickie (talk) 12:59, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
