Coercion? Contention about Taxation
editFirst, I must apologize for any incidental rudeness or annoyance; I'm very new and casual with Wikipedia.
So, second: taxation.
You don't think taxation is coercive. Indeed, for those who do not take issue with it, it is not. However, for those who do not agree with it, they are not allowed to not participate in the tax system. They are forced to by threat of jail and/or death. Is this not inherently coercive? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shyguy76767 (talk • contribs) 00:54, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
- Indeed, from the definition one could say that its enforcement is coercive. However, coercion carries a negative connotation of something illegal, however taxation is generally considered a government right. (Please, also, when you post, add 4 tildes or click on the button at the bottom of the editor window that does this for you, to sign your posts, like this:) Iwilsonp (talk) 01:04, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you; I've been figuring out how to use proper etiquette on here by trial and annoyance (not intending to annoy of course).
- Yes, it certainly is a negative connotation: coercion is involuntary. Is imposition really any better? Taxation is, likewise, involuntary for those who do not wish to participate.
- Since without taxation, government would not exist, why wouldn't it be considered a government right?
- There are things that are illegal for which there is no rational basis, such as marijuana.
- That taxation, and thus government, are coercive does not mean that without government there are no rules - agreed upon things - for society. Rather, it is the opposite: without government, there would be a return to sense and rules, as government contradicts sense, reason, and morality starting from its very origin - taxation.
- From taxation follows the rest of things that don't make sense in society, since we are inculcated to believe that coercion, if it is in the form of taxation, is not coercion, but civilization. As you said yourself in your edit of my edit: "I don't think it's coercion."
- Doublethink, epitomized in the general view of taxation, is why the world is in general ruin from corporations: corporations are legal entities of the state, after all. Shyguy76767 (talk) 07:04, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

editHello, thank you for letting me know about your changes, I briefly looked over the article I changed (technically changed back) and was unaware of any errors, The reason I made the changes was due to me looking at another article, and noticing the user named "Lukeno94" making an incorrect edit, so I found my way to his page of edits, and it seemed he was targeting a specific IP address and changing anything that person edited. I apologize if I made an error, I was simply trying to help out what looked like someone being bullied. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.83.68.15 (talk) 03:19, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Advancement Via Individual Determination
editHi- I'm new to editing, so sorry I wasn't including my reasoning behind my edits and deletions on the AVID page. My goal was to make it more user friendly for educators, parents, and students, who hear about AVID and want to know more. What was there before was much too wordy, didn't give good enough specifics for people who're new to AVID, and didn't cover all the background and current efforts of AVID. As I said, I'm new. If you look again, and see that I've done something wrong, please message me before deleting my revisions if you can. As someone who works with students especially, I want that page to make sense, so they can feel informed if they are nominated for an AVID Elective class and want to know more. Thanks!-KayBu — Preceding unsigned comment added by KayBu (talk • contribs) 00:48, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Hey! Thanks for the guidance. The content is now in my own words. If you flag any spots where I need to add proper citations if I haven't already - I'll get those up there right away. Thanks again for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KayBu (talk • contribs) 18:56, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Deleting Page
editHi,
I would like to delete the page, I'm very new to Wikipedia and I'm very confused on how to do anything on this site. I'm sure you provided me with the resources to do a speedy delete but I just don't understand what you're saying. Can you please help me.
Alexandraice (talk) 21:50, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
I talked to another editor who said that page will most likely be rejected. Should I delete the page since it will be rejected anyway or wait for the page to be rejected? Is there a speedy way to get the page in the accepted/rejected pool? What do you think is best? Alexandraice (talk) 16:14, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi, Last question, the page was deleted but when you go to the link of the page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICE_Portal this message is provided
This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference. • 21:42, 30 January 2015 Mojo Hand (talk | contribs) deleted page ICE Portal (G7: One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page) • 20:10, 26 January 2015 Alexandraice (talk | contribs) moved page ICE Portal to Help:ICE Portal • 20:33, 13 January 2011 RHaworth (talk | contribs) deleted page ICE Portal (A7: Article about a company, corporation, organization, or group, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)
How do I get rid of this? Having prospective people searching for that page makes it look extremely bad for ICE Portal. It still pops up when people search for it on a search website. I just need the page to be completely gone. Is there a code or something I can reach out to about this? Alexandraice (talk) 19:41, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

editHi, i saw that you took out the contribution i did on the Perforation article, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perforation, well i thought that Swiss Peforation company (with more 60 years of experience on the field) would be a contribution to the reference area on Perforation company links (which didnt have any links on perforation companies), just like that Stewarts Pinned Products company on Fabrication metal companies reference area. If you still dont think its a contribution then lets leave it as such, if you change your mind let me know so i can add it as reference. Thanx!

editFallenangelius here – remember the wiki is not just a dictionary but a means for the world to share knowledge, experience, understanding and there are readers who will need explanation. I am sorry you were unable to understand my definition of Noetics but I was merely adding what was missing as the quotes are already there - but then I suppose you have to start somewhere! I am an academic and so much more – I must assume you are a PhD who has somehow managed to get by on quotes alone. If I were you I would avoid plagiarism lawsuits at all costs and I trust you are beginning to appreciate the beauty of pure “Noetic” thought which seems to be so elusive to so many! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fallenangelius (talk • contribs) 23:27, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

NFL Europe edits
editHey. This is Jaywubba1887. My apologies for the editing errors. I have been using the Wikipedia mobile app and for some reason when I edit some articles, the app, once it saves and processes my edits, will delete large sections of the article by itself. I have no intention of deleting the sections and will edit on the full version of Wikipedia from now on, so this won't happen again. I feel like it is a code error or something on the app version of Wikipedia. Additionally, I'll be more specific with the edit summaries on the regular version of Wikipedia from now on. Sorry again for everything. Jay (talk) 00:34, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Glad it got sorted out. Iwilsonp (talk) 20:01, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Crop circle edit

In the future, however, you can undo the vandalism yourself by either clicking the undo button, or, if the user has made a large number of bad edits, going to the last good version of the page and clicking the edit button. Partial reversion of your restoration
editDear lwilsonp, - I recently thanked you for restoring the second and third paragraphs and an image of Joanna Macy to the "Social change" sub-section of the Humanistic psychology page. Both paragraphs were highly relevant and carefully referenced and the image pertained to a person who was cited at the end of the third paragraph. (I contributed to that sub-section a long time ago.)
I want to report that the vandal - 72.234.146.10 - is at it again. This time they have simply eliminated the image of Macy and the accompanying caption. I also want to report that the person in question has made recent and very curious alterations to the Joanna Macy page and one possibly relevant alteration (concerning "Buddhism Lite") to the David Abram page. This appears to be a vandal with an agenda, though what that agenda is I cannot decipher. Respectfully submitted, - Babel41 (talk) 22:41, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
- I have not undone anything yet, as I do not have any background knowledge on any of those articles. They appear to be POV pushing for something called "Buddhist-lite", though.
Did you make a mistake?
editI don't understand this edit. It looks like you undid an improvement, because both before and after the edit that you reverted, there were two links to Map (disambiguation), but the edit you reverted removed one of the two. Do we need to have two links to it? 65.210.65.16 (talk) 19:22, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
- It looks like it, but if you check the two pages, Map (disambiguation) and Maps (disambiguation), they are actually different pages. Also, the real reason why I undid it was that it was promotional: it added a link to Apple maps at the top of the page as if people would come to map by mistake looking for Apple Maps. Iwilsonp (talk) 21:24, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- I did not notice that. Thanks! But do you need two different disambiguation pages? Tree (disambiguation) covers "trees," Fire (disambiguation) covers "fires," Animal (disambiguation) covers "animals," so why shouldn't Map (disambiguation) cover "maps?" 65.210.65.16 (talk) 16:25, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why that is. It may have something to do with there being a lot of abbreviations that are MAP, which is different from MAPS. However, you are welcome to propose a merger if you think that a merger is warranted. Iwilsonp (talk) 21:37, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
