Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag
editSorry, no, your claim here will require the citation of a reliable, published source for the claim before it will be considered anything other than vandalism. (And yes, I know that "fag" in this context refers to a cigarette. Nevertheless, the edit filter is working properly.) General Ization Talk 21:05, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- @General Ization: did you listen to the .ogg file right up there in the lead? Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 21:12, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- Nope, but I did just detect that the article listed the proposed lyric until just last November, and have just restored it. (Noting that, as mentioned above, the edit filter is working properly, in that I don't think the filter can be expected to discriminate between archaic British slang and the more common, and commonly abused, use of the term.) - @General Ization: No, the filter is not "working properly" if it's stopping good faith editors such as this one. Of course no system is perfect, and some false positives are inevitable. I can't think of any obvious way to fix the filter that won't allow in the American use of "fag" as well, but we should still try and be as helpful to this user as we can. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 21:27, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Suffusion of Yellow: Indeed, and I believe I have done so by reverting the vandalism that removed the lyric they were trying to insert (as I would have also advised them had you not pinged me with the question above). General Ization Talk 21:29, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Suffusion of Yellow: You could look, I suppose, for the coincidence of "fag" and "lucifer", but of course even that would permit a particularly obscure kind of intentional abuse! General Ization Talk 21:34, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
