RFA2024 update: phase I concluded, phase II begins

Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:

See the project page for a full list of proposals and their outcomes. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated so far :) looking forward to seeing lots of hard work become a reality in phase II. theleekycauldron (talk), via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:09, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Did I use the SignpostTagger correctly?

Hello. I came across WP:Wikipedia Signpost/Technical/Index validation and saw that there were a bunch of items missing metadata. So I installed the SignpostTagger script I found on your profile, and used it to make this edit to add the tag "fromtheeditor" to this article written by you in the signpost. I don't want to be disruptive, so I'm asking if I did anything wrong here.

Thanks. --KingErikII (Talk page) 19:00, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

@Kingerikthesecond: Yeah, that's perfect! This has been a necessary task for quite some time. There's a bunch of articles that don't have any tags at all -- ideally this should be automated with Wegweiser, for at least the bare minimum (i.e. /Special_report being tagged as specialreport etc) but it would be a very big help if people were to tag things manually as well (e.g. with relation to what's going on in the articles). Thank you! jp×g🗯️ 23:30, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Good to know! I'm in a busy period right now, but I'll try to tag some other items when I have more time. --KingErikII (Talk page) 10:31, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

TFA

story · music · places

Today's TFA, Felix M. Warburg House, was written by Vami_IV and Epicgenius, introduced: "This article is about another of the great houses that once lined Fifth Avenue in New York. Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. It's a beautiful building and I hope you will all enjoy it."! - in memory -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:03, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

Signpost article

In relation to your arbcom article, I've been concerned about Jonathunder since he left. We hit it off well at the 2019 North American Conference, and I was particularly impressed with his love of photography and adding images to Commons. His last posting mentioned "a long and serious illness", and hopefully you are right that he left because of the desyop and not anything worse - although at the time he didn't seem the type of personality who would stop volunteering because of that. You probably would have liked him, and it would be nice if he surfaced again (reminds me of another editor I knew only on-line who ducked out for a couple years during covid and then, happily, popped up again) Randy Kryn (talk) 13:03, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

JPxG, thanks for the ArbCom report. Well-written and informative, with a touch of levity. And thanks for confirming that I'm not the only one who had no idea was SMALLCATS was about. I tried reading the ArbCom discussions and just gave up.  :) Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 14:31, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

Offensive usernames

It is my understanding that Stewards are able to globally hide usernames such that they stop appearing in search results and list:users, but they will do so only for names that are targeted harassment or egregiously offensive. I've emailed them before to get usernames taken down when they were attacking specific editors. Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:54, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Stewards are able to globally hide usernames as above. Additionally en.wp oversighters can hide usernames from local lists, but iirc this can sometimes cause issues if they are later globally hidden (it was several years ago it was last discussed, and things may have changed since then or my memory may be faulty so don't take this as gospel). In any event, if you wish to draw attention to a username you think should be hidden, you should do so by email (see WP:STEWARDS and WP:OVERSIGHT). Thryduulf (talk) 22:13, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Oracle not updating

Just wanted to ping you to let you know it appears the Oracle for Deletion page has stopped updating as of Feb 14th. Is this something that is in the works to be fixed? This information is very insightful and useful for the community, so it'd be great to see this data source continue. Thank you for all that you've done to create and maintain this. 74.109.236.228 (talk) 12:55, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

I noticed it had stopped updating when the Toolforge grid was deprecated -- what it needs is just to be SSHed into and migrated over to the new Kubernetes thing -- but while I was preparing to do this, I also noticed that nobody had said anything about it stopping, so I figured it might just not be worth the effort. Now that somebody has said something, I will go try to do something about it... jp×g🗯️ 18:40, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

Template:Dolorem ipsum/pb-cond and others have been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the entry on the Templates for discussion page. --Gonnym (talk) 09:17, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

I said this at the TfD, but I'd be happy to speedy-delete those if they've been replaced by the module (it's just housekeeping at that point -- MediaWiki just makes it a pain in the ass to merge files). jp×g🗯️ 09:19, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Wikiproject Medicine May 2024 Newsletter

Issue 22—May 2024

WikiProject Medicine Newsletter

Hello all. Another irregular edition of the newsletter. I was inspired to collect this after seeing several medicine-interested editors nominate their first good article. Please review a GA nomination if you have time, and help support our colleagues' efforts:

Recognized content (since April 1)

National Public Health Laboratory (Sudan) nom. FuzzyMagma, reviewed by Snoteleks
Nighat Arif nom. Launchballer, reviewed by Chiswick Chap

Nominated for review

  Hepatic hydrothorax nom. Aeschylus
  Adrenal crisis nom. CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath
  Exhaustion disorder nom. Draken Bowser
Bite registration nom. Candle1, under review by Esculenta
  Charles Wambebe nom. Vanderwaalforces
Polio Undergoing featured article review. You can contribute at the FAR page or the article talk page.

WP:MED News

  • Wikipedia:Good article reassessment is back in business, with a new process and new coordinators. If you see medicine-related GAs that may no longer meet the GA criteria, feel free to nominate them for attention/reassessment (please, not too many at once, lest we get overwhelmed). I'll incorporate them into the listings above.
  • Maintenance category of the month: Articles with topics of unclear notability (I've listed just the 36 that start with "A"; there are 398 total).
Note for the curious: 24,211 of the 57,554 articles (42%) tagged as part of WP:MED have some maintenance tag.

Newsletter ideas, comments, and criticisms welcome here.

Question about sourcing with this diff

You (IMO correctly) added this to my edit. I was curious about what you would consider a sufficient RS here, does it need to be a proper article, or can I just cite a YouTube Video from him? Or do we just need a Mandy-ish statement? FortunateSons (talk) 18:18, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

ADL RfC FYI

For what it’s worth, the ADL RfC has been listed at WP:Closure requests, and the archiving was noted there. Given the size of the discussion, I was under the impression that it was best to leave it in the archive until a closer was ready to publish their closure signed, Rosguill talk 12:07, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

Now that you mention it, that does seem like it could bring some benefit (e.g. no more comments to look over). I figured it was just an error, since it was archived by the bot and not a person. Do you think it would be smart to just put a box around it like:
This discussion is awaiting closure.
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.
? jp×g🗯️ 12:12, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
That could work too. I’m wondering whether there’ll be any issues for the archive bot since Archive 439 is now an empty page, but that may be a non-issue. signed, Rosguill talk 12:21, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
