Latin edittools
Hi Jacklee. Since I think you are interested in this: We are planning to update the ordering of the Latin characters in the edittols. See MediaWiki talk:Edittools#Mixed case ordering and character identification.
Nice working with you
Hey, it was good working with you over at {{ArticleHistory}}, nice teamwork. I've got a few more ideas for how we can further improve that template so I hope you stick around. By the way, how close are to submitting your thesis? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:23, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sure. The PhD has to be completed some time this year. * Erp *. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 16:22, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Singapore on Signpost
Hi Jacklee. Would you be willing to be interviewed for an article on WP:WikiProject Singapore on SignPost? The general idea is to publicize the project and focus on the main issues that project members face as well as on the help you need. Please let me know ASAP since we're approaching the Feb 15th deadline! Thanks. --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 02:34, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sure, I don't mind. I would suggest that you also talk to Hildanknight (J.L.W.S. The Special One) and InfernoXV, as they are quite active at the project as well. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 04:08, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Great! I'll drop a note on their talk pages as well. I have some RL issues to take care of this morning but will set up an interview page this afternoon and let you know. Feel free to suggest questions etc. Some editors actually read SignPost :) --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 14:16, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I made a start here. Feel free to drop in and start answering questions whenever you get a spare moment. I'll add more (and possibly take away a few) questions as we go along. Thanks for your time! --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 21:36, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I've added a couple of questions. Please let me know if there is anything specific you would like to add in the form of a question! --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 16:08, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- No, I can't think of anything else. I've added my responses to your new questions. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 06:15, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Jack, one additional question (suggested by Hildanknight) if you have the time. When either you or Hildanknight can answer it, insert the question before the last one (the one that starts with "Signpost readers are always ready to chip in ...". Looking at the state of the current issue, my guess is we have another day before it goes out (definitely another 12 hours), so we should be good on time. (If the article doesn't say Draft on the top right, it's too late!)
Every project has its own special set of problems. Could you outline some of the unique issues and challenges that editors of Singapore-related articles face and give us some idea of how you go about addressing them? --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 04:15, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for taking an interest in WikiProject Singapore – I look forward to the next issue of SignPost! — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 07:27, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Thank you
The report is out on Signpost at Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2010-02-15/WikiProject_report. Thank you for the time and effort you put in to answer the question and, if you celebrate the lunar new year, a happy new year to you! Regards. --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 14:28, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I do, so thanks very much and a happy Chinese New Year to you too! — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 14:30, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

I think we should add a "repeals" parameter to the infobox, to indicate section(s) of any statute(s) that have been repealed. NorthernThunder (talk) 22:46, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Thread at VPM about Webcitation.org bot, and about Wikimedia creating its own archive service
Hi there,
I'm reaching out to people who I see have been previously been active in threads related to Webcitation.org.
I started the above-mentioned thread at VPM, which
- 1) asks how things are going with the webcitation.org bot (because i think it's SUCH A COOL idea), and
- 2) inquires whether WikiMedia should create its own archiving service, to avoid the risks of relying on another organization's services (e.g., the downtimes experienced now).
I hope you'll take a look. user:Agradman editing as 160.39.221.164 (talk) 06:20, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
I marked these images as replaceable fair use. I read your rather detailed (a good thing!) explanation of how these images are not replaceable. I disagree. The law that you cite and its application pertains to people attempting to visit the island. It does not apply to ships passing by the island. Any person going by the island with a camera can take a picture of the island. This is one of the busiest shipping channels in the world. Thousands of ships go by this island every year. If these images were from inside the building on the islet, then the replaceability rationale you provided would apply. In this case, it doesn't as any person on a passing ship can take a similar photograph to these. --Hammersoft (talk) 12:56, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- I see your point. I had another look at the relevant legislation. There does not seem to be any provision specifically prohibiting photography of a protected area from outside the area. Section 4(2) of the Act says that "an authorised officer may search any person entering, or seeking to enter, or being in, a protected area, and may detain any such person for the purpose of searching him" (emphasis added), but perhaps this does not prohibit photography clearly enough. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 07:19, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Hey, Jacklee! Nice work on Goh Keng Swee!
It looks like your next GA. Keep up the good work! Do not be discouraged by your recent failed GA nominations.
With my A Levels this year, I do not have sufficient time to work on the National Day Project, so perhaps that could take place next year. By then, you would have finished your PhD. Speaking of your PhD, how is it going?
P.S. The "featured articles and honourable mentions" of SGpedians' notice board is no longer updated! Murder of Huang Na, which attained GA status on 17 April 2010, is not listed.
P.P.S. I have just finished drafting an article on Xiaxue. Do you know anyone who could help me copyedit it? Haemo, Giggy and Riana are no longer active.
--J.L.W.S. The Special One (talk) 04:12, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Sure, we can work on the National Day Project next year. Concentrate on your A-levels! I'm trying to complete the PhD by the end of June. Copyediting – maybe you can ask someone listed at "Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/List of participants"? Ummm, why don't you update the "Featured articles and honourable mentions" section yourself? — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 16:35, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:37, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Hi Jacklee,
I've recently started an RfC on the conduct of User:Cenwin88lee. I would appreciate any input you may have. Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Cenwin88lee
Thanks! ಠ_ಠ node.ue ಠ_ಠ (talk) 21:34, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think I've had any direct dealings with Cenwin88lee yet. I think you need to get Jpatokal to endorse your summary of what has happened in order to proceed with the request for comment. After you've done that, leave a message on the SGpedians' notice board talk page and maybe the talk pages of articles where there have been major disputes with Cenwin88lee inviting users to comment. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 05:01, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:KSRajah.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:KSRajah.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 04:08, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Category intersections with too much detail
You have created the following two pairs of categories: Category:Cerebral hemorrhage deaths in Singapore and Category:Cerebral hemorrhage deaths by country and Category:Deaths from myocardial infarction by country and Category:Myocardial infarction deaths in Singapore. There are two article entries in the former pair and one in the latter. I would like to see these categories deleted, but rather than burden other editors by nominating these two categories at CfD, I will ask you if you will agree to remove those three articles so that they can be deleted using the {{db-catempty}} template. As you can ascertain for yourself we have the following "by country" umbrella categories under Category:Disease-related deaths by country: Category:Infectious disease deaths by country, Category:Cancer deaths by country, Category:Cardiovascular disease deaths by country and Category:Neurological disease deaths by country. In my view, we are not yet ready for blending these categories with the Category:Deaths by type of illness hierarchy at subordinate levels below the four main branches which I have listed. Please give me an answer about what you intend to do. __meco (talk) 16:41, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't quite understand what you are asking me. Are you suggesting that instead of a category like "Category:Cerebral hemorrhage deaths in Singapore", I should place an article like "Sivakant Tiwari" in two separate categories, "Category:Neurological disease deaths in Singapore" and "Category:Deaths from cerebral hemorrhage"? If so, why are we not ready to start creating categories like "Category:Cerebral hemorrhage deaths in Singapore"? — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 17:05, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- You've got my intention right, except that the article you mention would also go into Category:Cardiovascular disease deaths in Singapore. Category intersection categories are generally accepted at higher levels, but are very often cursorily rejected at more detailed levels when brought to CfD. I don't assert that what you have done wouldn't be feasible, but unless you have a firm intention to see this new, and I might add vast hierarchy created, developed and populated, i.e. if this was more like a bright impromptu idea, I think that it had better wait until the existing hierarchy has been more fully populated and that the need for this new level of detail had matured. I think it would also be a good idea to vet this with some of the regular editors of the categories discussions. __meco (talk) 17:40, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- OK, then, no problem. Go ahead and do what you propose. I had assumed from the existence of categories like "Category:AIDS-related deaths in Singapore" and "Category:Cancer deaths in Singapore" that similar categories might be created for deaths from other diseases in Singapore. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 17:49, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- OK, the AIDS-categories are an anomaly, but I believe it is the only one, and for obvious reasons. I've now made the requisite changes. I appreciate your understanding and if you will be doing category work in the future I'll be happy to work with you. __meco (talk) 18:19, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: infobox sportsperson
I'm somewhat confused about your response to my latest edit summary. If you look at my sandbox, you'll see I used imagesize in the first instance, where the fish appeared enormous, as you stated, and I used image_size in the second instance, where it appeared with a width of 300px as expected. There's really no question that the parameter is image_size, and if you created the template I assume you must have simply forgotten the exact name of the parameter. I'll take a look at the template code and check this. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:06, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Heh never mind, it seems both works in different ways. I assumed that since image_size worked without "px", it wasn't meant to be added, and that imagesize not working without px must have been an error in the documentation. Ignore the above. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:07, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, the edit summary was a bit confusing. I hope my message on your talk page was clearer. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 13:14, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I understand the source of the confusion now. I had used image_size on an infobox which specified an image size of 250px, so it appeared to be the correct size; when I had tried imagesize, without the px specifier, it had been far larger than expected. Perhaps a slight modification is in order to allow the "px" specifier to be optional, to avoid similar confusion in future. I'll take a look at the template later if I get chance, and see if I can make that adjustment. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:18, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Sure. Was thinking the same thing. If you figure out a fix, update {{Infobox athlete}} as well (I try to keep them in sync with each other). — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 13:27, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Will do, thanks. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:29, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- It seems there's no (at least simple) way of doing this, and being such a heavily-used template, it'd probably do more harm than good to add complicated parameter handling to it, so I'll leave it as it is. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 14:01, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Will do, thanks. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:29, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

We could tweak the template so that it does not require "px", then ask someone at "Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks" to replace all uses. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 14:19, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- We could, but is that a worthwhile change? It'd likely just result in a load of users familiar with adding px to the parameter messing up the template because the template has added it for you, a second time. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 14:27, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
