Talk:Sri Temasek/GA1

Dear Jacklee, thanks for writing the article Sri Temasek, which I have nominated for GA status. The nomination is on hold due to two unreferenced statements. I am trying to find suitable references, but any help from you would be most appreciated. --Hildanknight (talk) 10:40, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

I think the unreferenced information was already in the article when I edited it. — Cheers, JackLee talk 22:52, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Re: ISBN for "Report of the Inquiry into the Collapse of Hotel New World"

Re this. Did you know:

  • ISBN prefix 9977 is the country code for Costa Rica.
  • Deleting one of the sevens produces the valid ISBN 9971881594 and changes the country code to 9971, which is Singapore. Unfortunately I can't find the report under this ISBN.
  • When an ISBN is misprinted in the front matter it is often correct on the cover. If the report carries a barcode, the correct ISBN is usually embedded in that.
  • If you're sure the invalid number as printed on the work is the best we can get, then you can add |ignore-isbn-error=true to the citation in order to suppress the error message and remove this page from Category:Pages with ISBN errors. If you do this, I suggest you add an HTML comment like <!-- invalid ISBN is as printed in the work --> nearby, or you could add a note to the article talk page instead.

I hope that helps. Apologies if you knew all this already.TuxLibNit (talk) 20:14, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

No, I wasn't aware of the above. I was trying to recall how I checked the ISBN and think I looked at a limited preview of the work on the National Library of Singapore's website. The (possibly incorrect) ISBN was handwritten on the bottom of the title page, presumably by a librarian. I can't check further without physically visiting the library, so perhaps we should remove the ISBN in the article for now. Thanks. — Cheers, JackLee talk 10:56, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
That's really helpful on two counts:
  1. The handwritten ISBN in the preview link you gave is actually 9971-88-159-4, which is valid and matches my guess. On the other hand, this also lead me to this catalogue record at the National Library of Singapore, which gives the invalid number 99771881594 and notes that it is invalid. I agree that it is best we leave the ISBN out, it is not as though there are multiple editions of the report that could be usefully distinguished by ISBN.
  2. Although the preview only has a little of the text, I can use it to support a few minor statements in the main collapse article that would otherwise be unsourced.
Many thanks.TuxLibNit (talk) 22:02, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Goh Keng Swee's GA nomination placed on hold

Thanks for writing Goh Keng Swee! Its GA nomination has been placed on hold. I will do my best to address concerns, but please help out! --Hildanknight (talk) 14:44, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

The remaining concerns are beyond my ability to address. Please deal with them. This article is your baby and if the article attains GA status, credit goes to you. --Hildanknight (talk) 12:39, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't have time to work on any articles at the moment. Sorry about that. — Cheers, JackLee talk 12:52, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Invitation to attention on a Commons user

Hello Jack, I'd like to bring your kind attention to a Commons user, Jollibean. From his/her talk page, I can see that you warned the user several times. I suspect that the user did not understand what a talk page is, so I tagged the Sim Ann picture for speedy deletion that was uploaded three years ago.

In order to adhere to the copyright policy, I'd like to invite you to look at the list of files Jollibean created, as I suspect most or all of it are copyrighted. This wouldn't take up much of your time, but if you are really busy in real life, you are free to decline it. Thanks. 175.156.214.74 (talk) 03:24, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

I've nominated the files for speedy deletion as copyright infringements. You can do the same by yourself in the future too. — Cheers, JackLee talk 16:25, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Renumbering infoboxes

you may be interested in trying User:Frietjes/infoboxgap.js in your User:Jacklee/vector.js. it provides two links in your tools section: (1) a link which helps you add a gap in the numbering in an infobox, and (2) a link which removes gaps from the numbering. currently, I believe at least two editors are using it (User:Pigsonthewing/monobook.js and User:Mr. Stradivarius/vector.js). it doesn't work so well with nested/child infoboxes, but otherwise works very well. Invitation to improve list

Hello, Jacklee, I heard that you are very good at cropping photos (your friend told me so). I have completed the work on the list of current Singapore MPs, so if you have the time, could I invite you to improve the list by making necessary amendments to portraits of MPs, as well as adding high-quality photos? The portraits should be as recent as possible, if able to find. You are also welcome to improve other parts of the list. Thank you for your patience! HYH.124 (talk) 16:44, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, am a bit busy at the moment. Will help here and there if I can. (Ummm, cropping photographs is really not that difficult. You can install and use the CropTool gadget from within the Wikimedia Commons (save the cropped image as a separate file instead of overwriting the original file), or install Jpegcrop on your hard disk.) — Cheers, JackLee talk 21:18, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
