Hi Jacksav, saw that you added wikimapia to Template:Geolinks-AUS-suburbscale; From the whois record I'm guessing that you also run that site. Can I please ask you some questions about Wikimapia?

  1. The site itself seems a little mysterious. Questions like: "Who made it? Why? How do I contact them to give feedback?" do not seem to be particularly answered from the site itself. Might be worth adding something to address these to the "About" popup.
  2. Zooming in using the hybrid view keeps the old "map" info displayed for too long. Should perhaps really remove all the old street map visuals on changing zoom level, I think.
  3. Silly question, but besides being full screen, how does this differ from the Google maps hybrid view? And if the difference is that it shows locations of items corresponding to Wiki articles, can placemarks automatically be added to Wikimapia for all locations using the Geolinks-AUS-suburbscale Template?

Image Tagging Image:Pir.jpg

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Pir.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 03:34, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikimapia

edit

Jacksav,

You seem to have gone to a lot of work to put together your 'wikimapia' site, but since it takes from Google maps I don't see what more this has to offer than the 'official' Google link. I also worry about the legality of this - is it possible to just tap another site's content for your own, especially google's?

Anyhow, I most probably won't be the only one inquiring about this. Until you can provide some sort of explanation the "official" google link will have to win out over yours - there are now two links to the same thing on the Paris page. Thank you for your understanding.

Jack

The Wikimapia template you added to Chernobyl disaster duplicates a link already present in the Photography/Videography/Infography section at the bottom. Would it be better to have all the similar links in the same place? What do you think? Moonraker88 22:28, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've reverted this edit – sorry. The link existed already in the "External links" section and it seems better to keep them all together. Furthermore the template seemed to upset the page formatting slightly: it was overlaying some text (at least in my browsers). This was presumably a software problem – nothing wrong with your template. All the best. Moonraker88 07:09, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Possibly unfree Image:Wikimapia.jpg

edit
An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Wikimapia.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Please go to its page to provide the necessary information on the source or licensing of this image (if you have any), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Specifically, you cannot release all rights in this situation, as Google Maps owns the map image data. — ceejayoz talk 02:49, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is a discussion at Template talk:Geolinks-Canada-cityscale about adding additional map sources to {{Geolinks-Canada-cityscale}}. Since you have edited {{Geolinks-Canada-cityscale}}, you may want to comment. --Eastmain 01:35, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:WikiMapia-logo-en.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:WikiMapia-logo-en.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MECUtalk 22:26, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Polygons

edit

Hi Evgeniy!

Just a quick note to call your attention to a problem with irregular polygons. This feature was working perfectly until about five days ago, but seems to be malfunctioning at the moment. Whenever I try to add a green polygon, the red outline with four points appears, but when I try to add additional points, that doesn't work. As I said, this problem has only come up in the last week. Could you look into it? Thanks! David Cannon 00:12, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
