Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo

edit

Thanks for contributing Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo. Would you mind if I worked with you to edit the article and improve it? One thing that is needed (as the notice above says) is source information for Image:Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo.jpg. Was this scanned from an old book? If so, could you provide the book name and date of the artwork? Also, would you be able to provide sources for the article itself? ie. What history books, websites or documents did you use? This allows what you have written to be verified, and allows interested readers to read more on the background. Thanks. Carcharoth 22:06, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

dear Carcharoth, just a quick comment on the introduction you wrote: Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo was a slave trader, a freemason, but also a poet and journalist. Moreover he was born in Funchal (Madeira, rather than Portugal). i got the picture from the web, but i'm not able to retrace it right now. I saved it a couple of years ago and now it seems to have desappeared. it was from an academic journal, rather than from an old book. I hope it won't be removed. the article is taken from my PhD thesis "the creole elite and the rise of Angolan protonationalism 1870-1920". here are some of the sources I used:

A letter to the right honourable Viscount Palmerston, on the present state of the African slave trade and on the necessity to increase the African squadron by Commander Arthur Perry Eardley-Wilmot (London: James Ridgway, 1853), AHU, Angola, sala 12, diversos, pasta 824.

Some more questions

edit

Thanks for the sources given above. That is exactly what was needed. Don't worry too much about the image source, though if you can remember the name of the journal, that would be great. One thing, do you think you could put the above sources on the article's talk page? Talk:Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo. That way, someone else will find it easier to find them. They should eventually be put in the article, but I won't have time to do that right now.

One final point. You say he was born in Madeira, but I'm unclear as to what this means. Would you say that he was culturally Portuguese? Do you know what his ethnicity was? I notice the references to his family being emigrants, and the references to creole in your sources. Is it possible to say anything for certain for the introduction? Carcharoth 00:25, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

re: Jacopock 19:54, 24 September 2007 (UTC) well, would you say that somebody born in Jersey or Guernesey is English? if yes, we could say that he was Portuguese. culturally Portuguese for sure. as long as the ethnicity is concerned, it is hard to say. how would you describe the football player Cristiano Ronaldo (the only famous fellow countryman I can think of at the moment)?Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Arcenio.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Arcenio.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:29, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 12:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image source problem with Image:Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo.jpg

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Arsénio Pompílio Pompeu de Carpo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 18:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
