A request for help

edit

Hello Jake, I have come across the Napoleonic Wars uniform images that you have contributed. Would you be able to make such an image, so I can use it for a Wikipedia article, please? I can provide the necessary detail of the uniform. Kind regards Keith H99 (talk) 23:52, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey Keith, I will be happy to drew any ideas and wishes you have. I'm always happy to try a challenge. Let me know what it is exactly that you need and I'll start working on it. Jakednb (talk) 13:00, 17 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jake, thanks for helping out. What I am after is an image for use with the Corps of Colonial Marines. Their uniforms were provided by the navy. Here are two "images". The first one is a drawing by the talented artist Don Troiani. The second image is a photograph of re-enactors.
Here are the links
http://www.historicalimagebank.com/gallery/main.php/v/album01/Black-Soldiers-all-periods/Royal_Colonial_Marines.jpg.html
http://www.pbs.org/wned/war-of-1812/essays/black-soldiers-and-sailors-war-of-1812/
'Short white jackets and bag-like undress caps were part of the sea-kit for ordinary duties, replacing the earlier casual or slop clothing that had often led to confusion between sailors and marines'. From memory, if you watch "Master and Commander", there are several scenes where the Marine sentinels with the shore party are in white. The army had a similar undress uniform, as per the following:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:National_Army_Museum_Napoleonic_Wars_display.JPG
So, in essence, I would like an image of a black man, in white undress uniform with blue facings, with a Royal Marine round hat and two white cross-belts. If this could be labelled along this lines of "Colonial Marine in forage dress", this would be great. If you've any questions. don't hesitate to get in touch. Many thanks!!Keith H99 (talk) 00:59, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I think I have finished. I hope it looks good, if there are any problems with the uniform design let me know. Jakednb (talk) 17:02, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jake, this is superb! Thanks for taking the time to help out!
When I was doing some googling last night, I came across the excellent site maintained by the 2nd Battalion 95th Rifles website. This page currently has a link to a video file on YouTube. One of the speakers mentions at 1:48 that for two thirds of their time, the men of the 95th were in fact clad in their white fatigue uniform for as much as two thirds of the time. Here is the link to their gallery: http://www.95th-rifles.co.uk/gallery/ and the name of the video (5:32 duration) on YouTube is "2nd Battalion 95th Of Foot Bolsover Castle Training Event" (Published on March 27, 2012)> There's some good pics of the 33rd Foot similarly attired. Keith H99 (talk) 18:30, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot Jake! This, and the infoboxes, have resulted in the article not only being considered as B Class, but also under consideration for progression to the GA class.Keith H99 (talk) 22:18, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm really happy to have helped. Please let me know if there are any other designs in this fashion that may interest you. Jakednb (talk) 23:31, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Eran Prion

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eran Prion requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. STATic message me! 19:44, 13 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I moved the page to User:Jakednb/Eran Prion, where you can take more time to work on it in relative peace. Move it to the mainspace when you're ready. But I'd wait until you make it explicit how he meets either WP:N or WP:MUSICIAN, since otherwise you're likely to be pestered. Cheers, WilyD 09:14, 14 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Syrian Tactical Markings

edit

I noticed you have made a few vector drawings of Syrian tactical markings. Specifically those available on army units. These have been used for many decades but are practically unknown. I have collected a lot of these. Maybe we can collaborate and piece together this information. So far you are the one person to have even a vague knowledge of it. It's a worthy mystery to be solved. Feel free to send me an email! Leptomicrurus (talk) 04:41, 9 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Leptomicrurus, a while ago I did extensive research using videos and photos from the civil war in Syria and matched vehicle and soldier markings with units that were stated to be operating in those areas. This I compared with older photos (from the 1973 and 1982 wars with Israel) and managed to find a small number of actual markings. This took a lot of time and there are many inconsistencies. I would love to collaborate with you on this research, it would be great to compile a true base of markings and insignia for the Syrian Army. Let me know how we can move forward with this. Jakednb (talk) 20:55, 9 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! Please email me at []. We can find some ways to better organize our findings from there. Leptomicrurus (talk) 21:51, 9 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
