Help needed with translation
editHi! I'm currently editing the article Ludwig Scheeffer, and I wonder if some more biographic data can be obtained from the last page of his Ph.D. thesis. Unfortunately, it is in Latin, and I don't speak any Latin. I guess his father's and mother's first name could be given there, and maybe some more details that aren't yet present in the Wikipedia article. Could you please have a look and provide a brief translation (e.g. "mother Mathilda", if my guess is right) of the relevant excerpts? Many thanks in advance. Best regards - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 19:52, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
Translation: I was born Ludovicus (Louis) Scheeffer, in Regiomontii (this is a Latin version of the city name) in Belarus (I believe this is the correct translation of Borussia) on the first of June, 1859 to my father Louis and mother Mathilda, from the family Broscheit I was part of the evangelical faith. I studied at the gymnasium of the Old City of Regiomontanae (same city as birth), and then after my father died at the Frederich gymnasium of Berlin. In 1875, I was accepted as a student at the beloved university of letters, called Frederick Wilhelm (or William). I studied for four years there, except two semesters at Heidelberg and Leipzig, focusing on studies in mathematics, physics, philosophy of the works of ... (list of names). I will always retain the most grateful memories of these most revered men.
- Many thanks! Borussia seems to be Prussia. And Regiomontium redirects to Königsberg, a then Prussian city; I guess "Regiomontii" and "Regiomontanae" are grammatical variants thereof? - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 09:21, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
Yes, "Regiomontii" and "Regiomontanae" are just adjectives for Regiomontium.
