Hi Jane Raffan! Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. |
Reviewer warning duplicate page

Re the warning note, this a unique new bio and not a duplicate of Patrick Corrigan. Jane Raffan (talk) 00:57, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Patrick Corrigan
editHi Jane, Your work on the bio for Patrick Corrigan is fabulous. Your user name suggests you have a potential conflict of interest, but it looks as though you have addressed this through the 'article for creation' request. I wanted to suggest a couple of things: there are a lot of facts included in the article that don't have sources cited to support them. Eventually they will get removed unless someone provides a source, so the more you have, the better. That said, my second suggestion is that a letter to the maritime museum, regardless of who signed it, is unlikely to meet WP's requirements that sources be both secondary and reliable. There might also be a level of detail at times that could be trimmed, and that may make sourcing the material easier! Thanks again for your work, we are very lucky to have someone with your depth of knowledge making this contribution. Any questions, you can leave on my talk page. Regards, hamiltonstone (talk) 11:49, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

editDo you work for this person? The article is high promotional and goes into an extraordinary amount of fine detail that is typical of editors who are paid to produce articles. Possibly (talk) 08:33, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- COI is also mentioned above on this talk page, for Patrick Corrigan (businessman). Are these subjects associated with your work or professional career? Possibly (talk) 08:40, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you Possibly. I am not employed by the subject, nor do I work in his field. I was contracted, however, to ensure that his text met wiki's protocols for neutrality etc, and that all the detailed bio references were properly cited. I haven't been active in this space for some time, and so appreciate any and all feedback. I have to remove external links, based on another editor's advice; I'll keeping working on the draft. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jane Raffan (talk • contribs) 03:58, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello again. I've added disclosure to the draft in the edit summary box to reflect this (as per Wikipedia recommendations, which I've just dug into following your comments): "Dr Pohl has contracted my writing services to ensure their article adheres to Wikipedia protocols. I will continue to respect advice from editors in this regard, with thanks." I have not ever previously worked for Dr Pohl or any affiliated company. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jane Raffan (talk • contribs) 04:40, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- I've pasted here the reply left on my talk. For Clive Pohl you need to disclose that you are paid editor per WP:PAID. What is the story with Patrick Corrigan (businessman), did you also have a business/personal relationhip with that subject? Possibly (talk) 05:31, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- PS: as it reads on the first page of Articles for creation, "If you are being paid to contribute to Wikipedia, you must—under the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use—disclose who is paying you, who the client is, and any other relevant affiliation." This is because we are interested in creating an encyclopedia free of promotion and as neutral as possible. Possibly (talk)

edit As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You are asked to cease editing until you comply with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Jane Raffan, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Jane Raffan|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Possibly (talk) 05:33, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello again. I've added that to my userpage, which didn't exist. Thank you. The disclosure requirements weren't in place when I created the Corrigan page. And I haven't been paid for any writing in between then (Jan 2014) and now. I've added the disclosure for the Corrigan page to my userpage as well, for transparency purposes. As I said, I wasn't aware of the changes; apologies. Let me know if I need to do anything else, with thanks.
- Thanks for the disclosure on Pohl. Please follow WP:COI from here on in and do not edit those subjects in article space. Possibly (talk) 06:15, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- By the way, who is paying you? You have said on your user page that Pohl is the client and you are the emplyer. You have to disclose that, it is not optional. We are all about transparency. Possibly (talk) 06:19, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying that on your user page. Sorry to come down hard on you, but the way you have been using Wikipedia is really plain wrong. We are not here to publish biased, paid biographies of anyone, rich or poor. Undisclosed paid editing is also very, very much a bad thing on Wikipedia. Essentially, the way you have been using the platform is what Wikipedia is not for. However, I thank you for your recent honesty. Possibly (talk) 06:49, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. I've made the changes to my user page, including a link to my website where I mention Wikipedia writing services, which then also has the link back to my Wikipedia user page. The subjects are both people who have been recognised with high level distinctions in their fields, and by their country with national honours, and I don't believe there is any bias in the entries. I believe I worked hard to ensure this. That said, I'm sure there will be plenty of scrutiny, and I welcome others' edits in this regard if that is deemed the case. Having last been active as a paid contributor prior to the disclosure protocols coming into force, my recent effort was created without considering this might be in place, for which I apologise. It was never my intention to be anything other than transparent in this space, hence the use of my real name from the start.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jane Raffan (talk • contribs)
- Thanks. You may not see it, but there is a spectacular amount of bias in both articles. I have trimmed the Corrigan article down to something more encyclopedic:it was75kb in size, which is 25% smaller than the article on the current Australian Prime Minister. The copy would have been fine for an exhibition catalog or perhaps even a magazine, but writing on Wikipedia is something entirely different. Also, note that sources you get from the article subject are not usable here. Possibly (talk) 07:28, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

editAdvertising your paid services on Wikipedia
editYou are blatantly advertising your paid services with a link on your user page, this is really not allowed and goes against the whole spirit of Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 08:43, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
