editHi. I'm not sure why your sandbox (User:Jaragustin/sandbox) was deleted, but I've restored it and done a little bit of work on it. I worked on a similar article some years back, Rachael Bland which seems to have some sort of parallels, except she was well-known anyway as a television and radio presenter, which makes it a bit easier to write about.
As a general piece of advice, stick to mainstream broadsheet sources that cover the person in depth. Having quotations from the Canadian House of Commons is good, as long as they are short and concise. I picked up on a UK House of Commons debate to write Murder of Zara Aleena. Additionally, the sandbox as it stands contains wording that's not really appropriate for a general-purpose encyclopedia. For example, instead of "Over a nine-year period, Nalie documented her health struggles without let up", I'm not sure what the words "without let-up" mean and probably don't need to be there.
You may find Women in Red project has further help and advice. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:58, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your help! I was under impression that sandbox is safe place to practice and get some advice and assistance from the wikipedia community. I'm truly grateful to you for reaching out. I wonder how I can avoid such a brutal way of treatment. I received a couplesince drafting this article. Nalie was a well know cancer-awareness advocate, and since she passed away almost year ago, there have been many fake news about her and her community of thrivers thought that having Wikepedia page about her might help given that a foundation has been established to support young women. When drafting the article, I used this "Nightbirdie" Wikepedia page as a model. I pray that you will be able to continue helping in developing the Nalie article. - The best place for asking new questions is The Teahouse - see Wikipedia:Teahouse which is full of experienced editors who have a good track record in "customer service" for new users. The other place you can ask for help is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, which is designed to improve Wikipedia's coverage of women and women-related articles. It's particular appropriate you've chosen to work on this topic on International Women's Day.
- As for what I can do, I did have a look for reference material myself and found this obituary which looks like a good source to use for basic facts, but being British, I'm not too familiar with sources such as CityNews. Hopefully you can find someone with some more local knowledge. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:05, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you again. Happy International Women's Day. I will be participating in the march this afternoon. The CityNews is already included in my list of references. There are actually several mainastream media CTV, CBC, The Montreal Gazette that covered her death. May I ask how I can protect my draft article from being deleted? Jaragustin (talk) 18:12, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- If multiple mainstream news outlets covered her with dedicated obituaries, that generally implies the person qualifies for a Wikipedia article. I don't think it's likely that the draft will get deleted again. If you get any problems like that again, I'd recommend going straight to the Teahouse. They deal with new users' questions like this day in, day out, and can either get it restored or give you a full and detailed explanation of why it can't be. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:29, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- One other point - another reason drafts can get deleted is because they contain excessive close paraphrasing from third-party sources, which can be problematic, as content on Wikipedia has a very specific publishing licence incompatible with most media. I wrote an essay on this some time back - User:Ritchie333/Plain and simple guide to copyvios. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

I've moved the draft to Draft:Nalie where it can be reviewed using the articles for creation process. That will give you some more advice on how to proceed once it's reviewed. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:05, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you agsin! You've been incredibly helpful. I was about to ask you the difference between the "draft" section and "sandbox" - I thought that latter was a safe area to write and learn but got brutally deleted without fair warning. It looks like this draft area is better. The writing process for Nalie page/article is a collective or community process, but none of the people that I asked to participate is quite familiar with Wikipedia process. The main concern is the proliferation of innacurate or downright fake information circulating since she passed away and one purveyor of fake info even indicated that Nalie should have Wikepedia page, hence this article.
- I understand too that the author has to make a disclosure, if I have close relationship with the subject. Should I ask someone else to do it? Jaragustin (talk) 12:18, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- To declare a disclosure, click on the red "User page" link at the top of the page, and add the following text :
{{UserboxCOI|1=Nalie}}
It's best to err on the side of caution at all times. The problem with writing about things connected closely to you, is it's difficult to know when you're acting in a neutral and dispassionate manner. You've done the right thing by adding the text in a private sandbox, which we can then send for peer review, and by ensuring you base your information on reliable sources such as newspaper reports and parliamentary records, not from what you personally know to be "true". This will ensure several neutral and uninvolved people look at the draft with a fresh pair of eyes. I've sat down and watched enough people in real life attempt to edit articles about things they know to realist that this sort of thing doesn't come out of malice or an intent to deceive, but simply inexperience with Wikipedia. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:10, 9 March 2023 (UTC)- Very helpful. Not sure if I understand it well. When I click on my use page I get this:
- "Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact title. In general, this page should be created and edited by User:Jaragustin.
- To start a page called User:Jaragustin, type in the box below. When you are done, preview the page to check for errors and then publish it."
- Do I add the text {{UserboxCOI|1=Nalie}} on that box? Jaragustin (talk) 15:14, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, exactly that. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:49, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- It's done. Thank you. One thing I don't understand is the Tedx and Walrus talks of Nalie were rejected. Jaragustin (talk) 16:16, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- I succeeded in adding Tedx and Walrus, and still trying to learn how you improved the reference citations. Jaragustin (talk) 17:55, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
