Hi JayWalsh- I can't figure out how to say this without sounding corny, (or kiss-butt-ey), but thank you for all the work you are doing to construct and reconctruct Draft Messages, and the other one thousand tasks relating to WKM's involvement in the opposition of the two Bills. It is not easy to take literally hundreds of well intentioned suggestions, and artfully piece them together. It isn't easy, period, to creat a message that has such critical importance weighing on every single word. Good luck with this, and thanks for your work and your time. SOPA initiative and preventative technical measures

Since we're nearing the deadline for action, I want to be sure that this question made it to you (or someone on the team) in time. I could be mistaken, but I'm thinking that many of our articles could get temporarily downranked (or delisted) by search engine algorithms if they're crawled while substantially different in content. Needless to say that this would potentially reduce the campaign's effectiveness by a very wide margin.   — C M B J   05:24, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Headline/structure of landing page

Thank you for all your work on the blackout action. I'm really glad WMF is doing this.

I just posted a note at Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Proposed_Messages#Crucial_copy_editing about what I think was the latest version of the landing-page message. I think the small change I made is crucial for reducing blowback from less sympathetic would-be readers. The headline is different but the content is the same. The basic idea is to make it clear that the blackout is in defense of Wikipedia, not just because Wikipedians don't like the legislation. I understand that the message needs to be a call for action. But the headline needs to do something else. People will react emotionally to a black page where their article should be. The headline needs to start there – with that feeling – and then the message needs to transform that feeling into the action we need them to take.
