Derby School - adding of photographs
editThis help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Sorry I have to say I am finding difficulty in inserting photographs into this site. The Wikipedia guidance doesn't make it very clear to me.
I have a lovely photograph of Parkers Piece Pavilion taken in 2011 and also one of the very old boat-house used by both the Derby School Rowing Club and the Derby Rowing Club. Can anyone advice me please? jbhygieneJbhygiene (talk) 19:23, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there! If you want to put images in an article they must be uploaded first. You can upload them to our image repository, Commons. There is an upload wizard located here. Please read everything in the wizard very carefully. The image(s) must comply with our copyright policy. If they don't, they will likely be deleted. If you have any further questions, you can ask me on my talk page, or here, whichever you prefer. Regards, OohBunnies! Leave a message 19:48, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Quotations
editI have fixed a lot of your errors, and explained these corrections in comments or on the article's talk pgae. I must insist that you not keep making the same mistakes. Wikipedia articles follow WP:Wikipedia style, not your style.
Wikipedia:MOSQUOTE#Italics is clear:
- Quotations in italics
- For quotations, use only quotation marks (for short quotations) or block quoting (for long ones), not italics. (See Quotations below.) This means that (1) a quotation is not italicized inside quotation marks or a block quote just because it is a quotation, and (2) italics are no substitute for proper quotation formatting. One way to distinguish long block quotes from ordinary text is to use {{quotation}}, which will box the text. Citation links may not work within such templates; if so, it may be necessary to use
and
.
Please go back and fix your mistakes. Thank you. Ground Zero | t 14:25, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Edits
editIn this edit, you used boldfacing where there was no reason, and italics on a quotation. Please stop doing this. The Wikipedia community has established a Manual of Style to help readers through more consistent formatting. individula contributors must not try to impose their formatting preferences over the decisions made by the community. References
editYou have been an editor too long not to know that WP: Verifiability is a core policy of Wikipedia. It is included in the list of the five pillars of Wikipedia above. It is time you started adding references to reliable sources for all new content you add. This is how Wikipedia stops people from making stuff up about the subjects of the articles. You mentioned in an editor summary that you are adding content from press reports. Since you have press reports, there is no reason you cannot comply with Wikipedia policy. I have undone your edits so that you can re-add them with the corresponding references. Ground Zero | t 20:46, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Query about changes made by Ground Zero 28/12/2016
editSadly my use of Wikipedia is rather limited, hence these mistakes you have had to undo from my recent additions. Can you point me to exactly what mistakes I made please? Can you also explain where I can find and then open the documents about how to insert references so I can start adding references as required? Jbhygiene (talk) 11:42, 31 December 2016 (UTC)jbhygiene
- The issue is that you were adding content to the article, and in the edit summary claiming that you had sources. Adding references is straightforward and should be done as a matter of course. Wikipedia:Citing sources should explain what you need to know. Ground Zero | t 14:41, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for that guidance to the link to the 'Citing Sources' page was most useful. Jbhygiene (talk) 19:16, 1 January 2017 (UTC)jbhygiene
