File permission problem with File:Carlo Strenger Tel Aviv University Independence Day 2007.JPG
editThanks for uploading File:Carlo Strenger Tel Aviv University Independence Day 2007.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ukexpat (talk) 16:29, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
To GB fan: apropos message on permissions to use photographs
editHello GB fan. I have no email that states permission to use, only a personal confirmation by the photographer (I have no doubt that the use is legit).
In addition Strenger is using the same pic on his website on the server of Tel Aviv University (if that counts as public domain that might solve the problem, please check at http://freud.tau.ac.il/~strenger/leadership_and_politics.html). Please let me know whether that's fine.
If that's not ok, is it ok if I use a photo taken by a professional photographer, who has given permission to use the picture? Is it enough if I state his name, or is it necessary that he sends explicit permission? If yes, to what email address should he send it to?
Jces (talk) 16:53, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
- I am sorry but to use a picture you either need to show explicitly where it is in the public domain or permission must be given. The owner of the copyright must give the permission. The permission can be emailed to permissions-en wikimedia.org. Hope this helps. ~~ GB fan ~~ talk 04:36, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Permission to use photo of Carlo Strenger has been sent by Photo Dept Tel Aviv University
editHello GBfan. I have tracked down the person officially entitled to give permission. It has been sent to 'permissions-en@wikimedia.org' by Michal Ben-Ami, Head of Photo Dept Tel Aviv University, that is the owner of the Photo. I cannot change the comment that appears near the picture; hope that it will be done by somebody authorized to do so and that the threat of deletion will be taken off. Am meanwhile enjoying editing some articles and am encouraging friends to join the Wikipedia project. Thanks for help Jces (talk) 09:20, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
- I don't have the ability to see those emails either, hopefully someone will come along and fix it. It is good that you are enjoying it. ~~ GB fan ~~ talk 09:42, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
File copyright problem with File:Carlo Strenger Tel Aviv University Independence Day 2007.JPG
editThank you for uploading File:Carlo Strenger Tel Aviv University Independence Day 2007.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:56, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Re: copyright
editHey Jces:
The problem with the email permission is that it does not explicitly say what license the copyright holders release it to Wikipedia under. (A sufficient license would be Creative Commons BY or BY-SA, such as seen here.) Basically, you need the holder to say "I am the copyright holder of <<IMAGE>>, and I release it under <<LICENSE>>". Hope that helps. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 01:53, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- My response is still the same. You need the copyright holder to say what they are licensing the content as. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 13:32, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- I only see tickets from 7/14 and 7/13 (that mention "Carlo Strenger"). Can you tell me the email address used/text involved? (Email me using the link on the left bar of my user page if you want it to remain private.) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 22:19, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
