Hi, I have recently been doing some secretarial volunteer work for WERF and noticed that their Wikipedia information had not been updated for years. So I tried to edit the World Endometriosis Research Foundation(WERF)article to update and added information to better explain/define it plus cited several publications. Unfortunately the article has been "tagged" saying it "may not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for companies and organizations. Please help to establish notability by adding reliable, secondary sources about the topic. If notability cannot be established, the article is likely to be merged, redirected, or deleted." Please advise. Thanks you!Jejjej2000 (talk) 11:22, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Jejjej2000, thank you for your request. According to Wikipedia:Notability, a long-standing policy of Wikipedia, an article must be verifiable with third-party sources for it to be kept. This means that the topic must have received a fair amount of coverage either in the media or through scholarly sources, otherwise it is deemed to be non-notable and not deserving of a stand-alone article on Wikipedia. At the moment both of the references at World Endometriosis Research Foundation are published by the foundation itself. To remove the tag, all you need to be is to show me several high-quality, third-party sources to establish notability, and also to be used in the article. If you have the sources, please present them to me here. I hope I have adequately answered your question. Regards, --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 12:35, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Jejjej2000, sorry for not making myself clear enough. Since the topic of the article is an institution, please provide high-quality sources from third-party publications about the institution, instead of merely providing links to the foundation's publications. At the moment there are various paragraphs that are unsourced; please provide third-party references to back all the claims up. --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 10:32, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- No, don't remove your edits. The tag was added way back in 2010, before you have made any edit to the article. So the issue about notability has nothing to do with your edits. However, if you want to remove the tag from the article, you must establish notability regarding the subject, or else the tag would stay, or even worse, be deleted if it is deemed to be non-notable. After having done a very brief Google search for "World Endometriosis Research Foundation", it appears to me that this particular organisation is quite obscure. Nevertheless, I am waiting for your sources. --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 07:44, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
