Potential conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Jennyissac. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Geoff Lewis (venture capitalist), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 03:03, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Sagotreespirit: Thank you for the instructions. I would like to clarify that I am not associated with the subject of this page. I'm working on this page for my school assignment w.r.t business journalism. Kindly advise how to proceed ahead. Jennyissac (talk) 03:14, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jennyissac: Welcome! Thanks for letting me know. You'll be fine if you're writing the article from a neutral point of view. The article is not neutral because you had written "In 2019, Geoff was named as one of the Top 100 Venture Capitalists in the world by CB Insights by Crunchbase", which is not something that students in business journalism would usually do. A classic hallmark of PR spam or blatant advertising is listing awards, which are of no practical use to Wikipedia readers (WP:IBA). But I will assume good faith for now. Keep in mind that you are writing an encyclopedia article, not a press release or promotional brochure. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 03:23, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Sagotreespirit: I simply referred to a link. But, I guess you are right. Thank you for your kind support and Let me tone it down. Jennyissac (talk) 03:26, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Sagotreespirit: I have one quick question, Is there any norms for writing Cannabis-related pages on Wikipedia? Is it legal to make one and edit? Kindly advise. Jennyissac (talk) 03:36, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jennyissac: Wikipedia has many articles about cannabis. Cannabis articles that meet notability guidelines laid out at WP:GNG are good to go. Cannabis is not a sanctioned topic, but do keep this in mind: WP:GS. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 03:50, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Sagotreespirit: Thank you. I got it. I will rather start with a draft and get it checked. I would like to ask one more question - how to use citations from gated databases such as EBSCO Discovery Services as references? Without a university login ID or password, one cannot check it. Is it allowed? Jennyissac (talk) 03:59, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jennyissac: That should not be an issue. Paywalled articles are frequently cited on Wikipedia. You are more than welcome to submit an article at WP:AFC. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 04:04, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jennyissac: Also, believe it or not, some admins will actually block and delete on sight when they see an article like Geoff Lewis (venture capitalist), but I personally still think that WP:AGF should come first. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 04:04, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Sagotreespirit: Thank you so much for considering this article under WP:AGF. As per the Wikipedia assignment, I have to draft and execute wiki articles on the following subjects -> a business person, a business topic (for which I was considering Cannabis, now I guess... I will drop it), a business podcast, a business academic journal/magazine and any topic on sustainable development (commercial/business PoV) from Africa. I hope I can have your guidance for the same. A sockpuppet investigation (WP:SPI) concerning your account is underway at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/AuthorWiki99. You are invited to participate. SamHolt6 (talk) 04:46, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@SamHolt6: I don't know what to say. I would rather focus on my assignment. Whatever decision you guys like to take, just keep me updated. Jennyissac (talk) 05:11, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
