Speedy deletion request for Leek RUFC article

edit

Hi,

I want to draw your notice to a speedy deletion request for an article - Leek RUFC - I have recently created as part of the process of providing all tier 5 clubs with their own article, a project that has been ongoing for at least 12 years which, until now, has never faced any opposition, either directly or from concerns about either notability or lack of independent references. I have already given a robust defence of this article on Leek RUFC's talkpage - Talk:Leek RUFC - and given that potentially many hundred other club articles could end up being deleted, there is a lot at stake here. You have put countless hours over the years into improving coverage of club English Rugby Union and if this speedy deletion succeeds then many hours of your efforts would also be very much on the line. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could offer your support for the retention of this article. Rillington (talk) 02:51, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your assistance regarding the Leek RUFC article and you will see that the deletion request has been removed. I think getting tier 5 codified as being notable for English Rugby Union clubs would be a good thing to do, not least as such a guideline already exists for English non-league football - step 6/tier 10.

Also, if you can add any other references to this, and other similar RU club articles that I have created over the years, which only currently have the RFU website as their independent source, that would be great. Rillington (talk) 06:11, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Good to hear that the page was saved. Tier 5 is (semi) national level so should be represented. I update RFU Championship, National League 1 and 2 results each weekend but don't have as much time as I used to due to work commitments. I'll see what I can do. That would be appreciated. I am currently adding the RFU references to the honours sections of the club articles that I have created and these are giving these articles many more independent references.
Also, we need to create articles for the Regional 2 Northern and Midlands leagues. Rillington (talk) 06:05, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Northwich

edit

I started to create an article for Northwich as part of my plan to ensure that all clubs that have played/currently play at tier 5 have their own article and to complete this, Northwich will have to be created. However I discovered that there had been an article for Northwich but it had been deleted several years ago. This has made me reluctant to go to the effort of creating a new one in case it is subject to a speedy deletion. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Hi Rillington - I would be careful about reintroducing any articles where they have been deleted previously as anyone watching the page may jump back in. I'd work on getting the current pages watertight and then see how it goes. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 12:16, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your reply. What I shall do is create the other articles and let you know when I am looking to recreate Northwich so that we can ensure that the article's recreation doesn't become a victim of a speedy delete. Rillington (talk) 13:19, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Draftifying England rugby club articles

edit

User:JTtheOG has draftified two of my recently created rugby union articles - Draft:Royal Wootton Bassett RFC and Draft:Hammersmith & Fulham RFC - on the grounds of lack of independent references. I immediately added many independent references Royal Wootton Basset and asked this user to revert their decision. However User:JTtheOG seemingly refused to do this on the grounds that "The Rugby Football Union is directly associated with the club, thus sources 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 [the RFU website] cannot be used to establish notability" and you will see on their talk page that I have challenged this. Given that you have used this source on at least 1,000 occasions, and without any issue, can you please help me out in case my resubmission is refused as this might be seen as a reason to relegate your articles due to you using this source across the articles you have created an improved over the years. Rillington (talk) 00:43, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Rillington: The use of the RFU website is in no way a problem. However, you need more than just primary sources if you want to establish notability of a subject. As outlined in WP:GNG, "a topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." A sports governing body is not independent of the clubs under its jurisdiction. JTtheOG (talk) 00:59, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Rillington: RFU and Rothman's are good primary sources. However, you may want to reinforce with some local news where you can. Any promotion or competition wins found on local news can help back up your sources. For instance, "Royal Wootton Bassett clinch title with Chippenham victory" https://www.gazetteandherald.co.uk/sport/24166839.royal-wootton-bassett-clinch-title-chippenham-victory/ Jgjsmith006 (talk) 16:34, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your help and support, and I'm pleased, and relieved, to say that both articles have been returned to mainspace. Thank you for your suggestion about locating local news articles and I have added the source you found about RWB winning Regional 2 severn to the article.Rillington (talk) 01:19, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hull KR attendances

edit

Hey, where do you get the home attendances for Hull KR from? – 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 L1amw90  (🗣️ talk to me  • ✍️ contribs) 11:35, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@L1amw90: Hi - sorry about the late response but have been off Wiki for most of the summer. I got them from the Total Rugby League forum - [see https://www.totalrl.com/forums/index.php?/topic/392847-2024-attendance-thread/page/5/] - someone from Hull KR posted a screen shot that looked accurate. Not sure where they got it from. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 14:38, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
