Emma Watson Reverts
editHi! Just letting you know, I had to revert your changes to Emma Watson. Per Wikipedia's verifiability standards, a fan forum does not constitute a reliable source. Feel free to restore the data with reliable reports. :)RadioKirk talk to me 18:47, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Hello! Apologies, but I've had to make further reversions to Emma Watson. Two links for one piece of data is almost never needed; IMDb is fan-edited, and is not reliable; and her height is fancruft and would never go in the lead line anyway. Write me with any questions. :) RadioKirk talk to me 20:32, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Re: How did you become a Wikipedian/Administrator?
editWikipedian: I started editing and learned from there, like you're doing. Administrator: Someone nominated me, and my peers felt I was ready. :) RadioKirk talk to me 21:08, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
It's not a quick process; it usually takes several months and thouands of edits. The best way is, make good edits, make yourself familiar with Wikipedia policies, read and take part in administrative functions, like theadministrators' noticeboard and vandal-reporting, and you may be there someday. Thanks for writing! RadioKirk talk to me 21:13, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: Internal links
editWhat page are you working on, and what are you trying to link? RadioKirk talk to me 18:17, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- Go into My Preferences, click the User profile tab, and include your changes in the Nickname field. If you use any tags, like internal links and <span>, for example, you'll have to check the box that says Raw signature. RadioKirk talk to me 18:26, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Userpage header
editFixed (it was "UserPage", not "Userpage"), but now you'll have to format it to fit :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 18:24, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: RC patrollers
editWell, technically, anyone can patrol Special:Recentchanges, a lot of people use it to catch more vandalism more quickly. If you don't have popups, however, it can be very tedious. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 20:31, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Kiera Knightley DMC Premiere.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Kiera Knightley DMC Premiere.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:06, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Jhfireboy. I noticed you started to make a table of all the characters listed on the page. I think that, instead of slowly making the table in the main namespace, you finish it elsewhere and then bring it to the article. However, I am first and foremost concerned if we even need the table at all. It's a very colorful addition, I admit, bringing photos of the characters and writing brief notes about them, but it's just not necessary. This is a list – not a table of contents. It's simply an index of every character in the series, with a link (if existant) to more info about them. So, I'm going to revert your edits. We may very well end up creating the table, but I'd like to discuss this first before bringing it up. As I said, though, if we do decide to create it, why don't you make it on a user subpage, such as User:Jhfireboy/HP Characters Table or a subpage of the article talk, like Talk:List of characters in the Harry Potter books/Draft? I hope you understand: this is a major renovation that needs to be talked about first. --Fbv65edel /☑t / ☛c || 03:07, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'd also like to point out that most of the images you have in User:Jhfireboy/HP Characters Table are fair use. Looking at policy rule 9, fair use images can only be used in articles, and if it would be best on the individuals' pages, not on a combined page like that. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:54, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Your VandalProof Application
editDear Jhfireboy,
Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 versionhas even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. --frothT 23:28, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for uploading this image. It has been removed from Emma Watson (per WP:FUC, since fair-use images cannot merely identify a living, public person) and deleted as it failed to assert fair use in any way. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 00:12, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome back. Restrictions on images recently got even tighter than they were already; reading WP:FUC will help (if you haven't already). Thanks again. :) RadioKirk(u|t|c) 22:05, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Generally, your peers like to see a few thousand edits spread across article and user spaces coupled with a reasonable knowledge of Wikipedia policies and guidelines (some of which have changed since I was honored as an admin, requiring me and others to keep up). RadioKirk (u|t|c) 22:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: 213.249.154.100
editI have deleted the offending entries. The IP is not solely vandalism, but I will consider blocks (we can only permablock IPs if they're proxies, and this one seems not) if similar behavior continues. RadioKirk(u|t|c) 18:29, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Welcome to VandalProof!
editThank you for your interest in VandalProof, Jhfireboy! You have now been added to the list of authorized users, so if you haven't already, simply download and install VandalProof from our main page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any other moderator, or you can post a message on the discussion page. Prodego talk 23:06, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Certainly. I have already looked through your user, talk, and contribs pages for your VP approval, as well as one more page. This is (controversially) what many or most of RfA voters use to determine whether to support or decline an adminship nomination. It is editcount, and it shows a lot of data, which can be used as a summary of a user. It shows you have been a user for 11 months, and that you have been semi-active during that period. You seem to be article editing oriented, and have made 439 edits. The standards for RfA are constantly raising, when I was nominated, the standard was about 4000 total edits, and users would also look at how they were distributed across the namespaces. Today 6000 total edits is the norm. A straight analysis of you (currently) indicates that:
- To become an admin I would advise you to spread out your editing into other areas as well as continuing to make contributions to articles. You also need to vamp up your activity considerably, making at least an average of 20 edits a day, for the next six months or so. Becoming an admin takes serious dedication. Prodego talk 23:29, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- I think the most important thing, not so far as the likely hood of it passing goes, but as far as being ready goes, is waiting until someone (who knows what they are doing) offers to nominate you. Nufy8did this to me. When users offer to do that, and you feel ready, you are close to requesting. It can't hurt to wait until some other people agree though ;-). Prodego talk 23:44, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I missed your last message. Being a meta member doesn't really help at all, I have a meta account, and rarely use it at all. Prodego talk 01:42, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

About your request for a coach...
editYour name is still listed at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests.
Note that the instructions may have changed since the last time you checked, and the department now follows a self-help process. See the instructions on Wikipedia:Admin coaching.
If you are no longer in need of a coach, please remove yourself from the requests list.
Thank you.
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article 2.75G, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.PaulC/T+ 18:57, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

RfA closed
editHi. I closed and delisted your RfA. Better luck next time. Regards, El_C 17:49, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
RfA
editThanks, and that looks good. The two most important, in my mind, would be to brush up on all of the policies. (It may seem time-consuming, but it's worth it.) Also, just familiarize yourself with Wikipedia, all over, and gain somemore edits, and I, and everyone else will support you when you're ready. Good luck! P.S. Don't be disheartened by your RfA. Everyone has to go through it. Even me. If you'd like a good laugh at a terrible RfA just click Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/BlackBear. It's under my old name, but it's still mine. Hope to see you on RfA again in a few months! (Or whatever other crazy place their wasting their time on proposing for adminship requests.) Cool Bluetalk to me 12:22, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Kudos to you
editI want you to know that I sincerely appreciate your attitude concerning your RfA. Many established users could learn from you. I have no doubt that you are on your way. Your list looks good and I commend you for your plans. I am always at your service should my help be useful. JodyBtalk 13:39, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Your recent RfA
editNever mind I suppose, adminship is no big deal; I'm sure with some improvements and some more contribs you'd pass in a few months. Best of luck and happy editing! The Sunshine Man 17:12, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- I always hate opposing; I am certain that with a little more time you will sail through. And we do badly need more admins.--Anthony.bradbury 18:31, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Rfa
editAll I can say is "wow". I have never receieved, nor have I even heard of someone who's first Rfa fails doing what you did. THAT is exactly what will get you a successful Rfa next time. My only suggestion is that instead of aiming for 1,500 edits, try to double, or preferably even triply that set goal. I personally like to see admins with 4,000+ edits, except under circumstances. Good luck, and I hope you work hard and become an admin soon! Jmlk17 21:03, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Welcomes of new users
editHello, when welcoming new users, dont forget to welcome them on their user talk page as some users do not want a userpage and that is where messages are supposed to be sent and where you get the orange "new message" bar. Great work with the welcomes! Happy editing! The Sunshine Man 10:33, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

The Artemis Fowl WikiProject
editHi. In the last month I have discovered the Artemis Fowl WikiProject and have slowly but surely been making progress. I have, however, noticed that no one else seems to be doing anything. So, it's as simple as this. Respond to this message, or your name gets removed from the participants list and I assume leadership of the WikiProject, because I will actually get something done. You have exactly 1 week, or 7 days, or 168 hours. They all mean the same thing.
However, please know that this is nothing personal against you. This is a generic message sent to every person on the participants list. Thanks for your co-operation. -007bond aka Matthew Gaka codingmasters 10:52, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Admin Coaching
editHey James...I would love to be your coach! Thanks for asking me :). We can get started right away if you like, talk about some things, or just sit back for a bit. This will be at your pace of learning, and I can go as fast as you like, or as slow as you like. Just let me know! Jmlk17 18:28, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Alrighty buddy! Let's dive right in then. First off, take a little look around our virtual classroom, as this has pretty much everything there is to know to advance from an intermediate editor to an advanced one. See if any topics interest you, review some, and just sorta tinker with stuff. Practice is always a good idea :)! Also, I highly-recommend keeping up with the rfa process, get involved with voting on every single RFA if you can. This will help familiarize you with the process as a whole, and allow you to meet and get involved with our most experienced and highly-regarded admins around here. Some would say that you need a featured article to your credit, but to that I say that I personally never contributed that much to a FA, and only helped 2 articles achieve GA status. Just keep building up those editing skills, working on articles that interest and excite you. It may be a somewhat long process, but hang in there with me, and we can get you there eventually! :) Jmlk17 20:56, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Re: Portal proposal
editI'd certainly be willing to work on such a portal with you, although I would suggest calling it Portal:Military of the United Kingdom (or perhaps, Portal:Military of Great Britain), rather than Portal:British Armed Forces. The formulation "Military of..." follows the precedent of Portal:Military of the United States, and also allows for a slightly broader scope. Carom 23:04, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- No problem - I'll take a look at it a little later. Carom 00:28, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Are you sure you want to do "monthly" articles, pictures, etc? It's relatively trivial to set up components that will display a random article from a pool of ten (or whatever) each time the mail portal page is loaded. See Portal:World War I, or the unfinished Portal:Royal Navy to see what I mean. Carom 21:21, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- No problem, give me a few minutes to move things around. Carom 01:02, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I've changed the portal components to randomize, but you will have to create each subpage (i.e. Portal:British Army/Selected article/2. Carom 01:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

British Army Portal
editHi mate, I'm a member of the British Army and would like to get involved with all this again. Could you point me towards your 'To Do' list? I look forward to collaborating with you in due course. Gormenghastly 21:14, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me. Sounds like it could be good fun all round. There are quite a few other Editors we may wish to involve and I will make a post on ARRSE as well as Talk:British_Army. What strikes me at the moment is that it is all quite randomly dispersed with the British_Army page acting as the focus. I don't have a problem with that - it's just that I believe we should make the Portal the main effort with all the relevant links radiating from there. Let's see if we can get some consensus and take it from there. My final point is that we should make the Portal look and feel as much like the (very good) RAF and RN versions - something to aim for at least!! Feel free to email me at the_mad_major@yahoo.co.uk as well. Gormenghastly 20:52, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- More than happy with your reasoning! Let's get a wiggle on... Gormenghastly 22:14, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Re ALS berets, they wear the 'standard' beret which is Navy Blue - a very dark blue that looks black at casual glance and this is a common cause of misuderstanding; See JSP336 Vol 12 pt 3 (http://www.ams.mod.uk/content/docs/jsp336/3rd_ed/vol12/pt3/pam15/s5ac.doc) . The only British Army Units that wear the Black Beret are the RTR and Westminster Dragoons.Smidsy999 (talk) 16:55, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

editJhfireboy -- as I'm sure you have noticed, your RFA is not going terribly well. Remember that you are always welcome to withdraw it (or, if you prefer, I can close it for you) if you do not think it has a strong chance of success. editI am sorry to inform you that I have closed your RfA early as realistically it was no longer capable of succeeding. Do not be too disheartened - many of our finest admins had unsuccessful early attempts. I hope you will take onboard the concerns raised by those opposing and will consider running again in the future when you have more experience. Best wishes, WjBscribe 11:19, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Roll Call for WikiProject Artemis Fowl
editGreetings from the Artemis Fowl Project. Your name is listed on our participants page, but we continue to be unsure of how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the Project's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the Project, please add your name to the active list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarize yourself with thecurrent work. On behalf of the Project, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you have left, then you will have been gone for at least two months, so your name will be removed from the list, and the list will become a single list of only active editors. re: Portal:British Army
editThank you for adopting me!
editI am so thrilled to be adopted! Thank you! I hope I will not be too much bother. Now, for my first question: Am I supposed to do anything else about the adoption process, and how does this work? Civilaffairs (talk) 15:39, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
- I have replied on my talk page, asking for guidance on how to proceed. Civilaffairs (talk) 16:02, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
- Thank you for your help. I wasn't sure from reading your guidelines whether you meant you wanted to carry the conversation over completely to the other member's talk page or do a back-and-forth, so I thought it best to ask.
- What I hope to achieve from Wikipedia: I would like to see Wikipedia become a more reliable resource. It is increasingly cited as such, despite its experimental nature. So, rather than complaining that it is unreliable and not to be trusted, I decided to try to do my small part in making it better.
- What I aim to dabble in, mostly: I have already begun trying to improve the entry on Operation Storm, and would like to work on related entries. As you can imagine, NPOV is difficult to achieve in any entry related to the former Yugoslavia. Perhaps, as an outsider who is knowledgeable about the former Yugoslavia and has studied its history, I can help out a bit on that score.
- I have recently, out of conscience, become involved in an entry about an artifact of the Holocaust in Croatia which has been nominated for deletion. Gruesome artifacts are not my favourite subject, so I hope I can clean this entry up and then be done with it, other than keeping an eye out for vandalism.
- I noted that help has been requested on the UNTAC entry and may work on that one a bit, as well as a few other entries about Cambodia.
- What is the proper way to go about deleting an image? I have already proposed deletion, or at least a caption rewrite, on the talk page of Operation Storm, but I am unsure how to proceed.
- If you see me formatting incorrectly or doint anything wrong, please let me know. I appreciate constructive criticism. It's how we learn. Civilaffairs (talk) 17:07, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
- Thank you for your help with the image. I will rewrite the caption for now. The source is a messageboard for CroForce (hardly NPOV source), and anyone can post an image on a messageboard, so no authentication is possible. As the messageboard is for Croatian military who participated in Op Storm and their generals are now standing trial for war crimes in the Hague, it is obvious that they have every reason to post anything which they believe exonerates them. I think the image should probably be deleted. Some Croat editors object to images from the United States Museum of the Holocaust on the grounds that the photographs in question originally came from the former Yugoslavia and are therefore suspect(!), yet submit images from sites like CroForce. Some sort of reasonable consensus of what types of sites are acceptable needs to be reached, but I am not holding out much hope for that at the moment.Civilaffairs (talk) 17:56, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
- I am sorry to be such a bother. Regarding the entry on the artifact that I became involved with because it was threatened with deletion, I have run into something I do not know how to handle. One editor has repeatedly edited this entry to include very inappropriate humour (such as making fun of the victims of one of the most notorious WWII death camps). This same editor has also deleted reputable sources from the entry and then immediately placed it on the RFChist claiming "external links are very serb ultranationalist POV – The issue is in fact whether the content of the article is not just a rumour spread by nationalists." I have patiently tried to participate in a constructive dialogue, but I see no point in continuing if such disruption is allowed to continue. Civilaffairs (talk) 16:21, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
- I went ahead and asked the lead coordinator at MilHist about this, so perhaps you needn't be bothered after all. This entry needs to be indexed into the MilHist framework anyway. Many thanks for you kind help! Civilaffairs (talk) 17:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
- Again, sorry to bother you, but can you tell me what an SPA account is, or how I can find out what it is? I tried searching, but all I got was spa. Civilaffairs (talk) 17:04, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
- Thanks for the quick answer. I was most perplexed. I had no idea it was against the rules to contribute to just one range of topics. Am I missing something, or is it hard for beginners to find this rule? I had planned to work on the Balkans for awhile, and then move on to Cambodia. I would prefer to work on one on one article at a time, at least in the beginning, as it is rather hard to pull up research on very different projects at one time, but it looks like I will have to diversify. Many thanks again for being such a helpful adopter! 21:11, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Civilaffairs
