Churches of Cologne

edit

I notice that you are a new Wiki editor and that you have been working on the seven Romanesque churches of Cologne, in each case, adding the same piece of information about the "trefoil plan".

In every case the description of the church said that it had three naves and three conches. So, when you made your addition it said: "trefoil plan, also (or "and") three nave and three conches".

Now, I am going to presume here that you found this information, but don't fully understand what the writer meant. What the writer of the "trefoil plan" bit was saying was that part of the church (the eastern end) had three lobes (like the Ace of Clubs). The part that is shaped like that is the Eastern End. So when you insert the statement about the eastern end, it should be linked to the "three conches". The statement about the "three naves" or "dome" or anything else should not come in between the "trefoil plan" and the "three conches". If you are not familiar with the terms, then look at the plans and see what is meant.

If you are familiar with the architectural terms, then please edit more thoughtfully, to make it clear to the reader what is meant. Even the most valid addition can be confusing if two comnnected ideas are separated by an idea that has no relevance (in this case the naves).

NOTE: the term "conch" has been replaced with "apse" which is the usual term in English.
