Welcome aboard!
editI enthusiastically welcome you to Wikipedia, Jillsigman! It's an honor to meet you.
Wikipedia has some exciting opportunities for editors with expert knowledge of dance. I'd like to bring your attention to WikiProject Dance, a group of editors working on improving dance coverage, and particularly to the discussion on Talk:Concert dance#Remodeling, the locus of a recent push to coordinate efforts in this area. We'd like to make some big changes, and the help of a choreographer with a Ph. D. would be immensely appreciated. For instance, you might have some ideas about the organizational problems being discussed at Template talk:Dance.
Your sandbox shows that you're picking up the "backstage" aspects of WP very quickly (yay, meetups!), but there are plenty of tricks which may take longer to learn. I'm pretty new here, but I'd be happy to try to help with any questions you come across; and Snow Rise and Lambtron (to name two) are friendly dance editors who have been here much longer than I.
Again, we're glad you're here! I wish you all the best and look forward to collaborating. FourViolas (talk) 00:10, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
P. S. You don't have to say whether you are, or are merely named after, the esteemed choreographer, but you should be aware of Wikipedia's advice for editors with a personal connection to their topics.
P. P. S. Users are generally welcomed with less-personalized WP:Welcome templates. Here's a good one:

Sunday March 22: Wikipedia Day NYC Celebration and Mini-Conference
editSunday March 22: Wikipedia Day NYC 2015 | |
---|---|
You are invited to join us at Barnard College for Wikipedia Day NYC 2015, a Wikipedia celebration and mini-conference for the project's 14th birthday. In addition to the party, the event will be a participatory unconference, with plenary panels, lightning talks, and of course open space sessions. We also hope for the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.
We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 18:13, 20 March 2015 (UTC) |
