GameSpy index
editIf you can't find the article you're looking for, you can dig it up manually on the game's bio page.
I tried to search for Deus Ex in the index, but I don't believe the D page (or the non-A pages) can be accessed. Have any tips? czar ♔ 09:29, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- Ran into this problem myself, and I was meaning to change that line. (I'm still far from finished with this guide.) I managed to find the 2004— bio by slapping this page into the Wayback Machine. However, all of the old articles have been removed from that link, even in the archived version. I used this older list to locate the original gamepage, which is loaded with material. I'll start shifting it, along with a few dozen articles from other sources, to the Deus Ex talk page later today. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 18:28, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Internet Archive full text search
editDo you know if there's a way search IA's OCR'd text? For example, I can find mentions of keywords if I do ("mario") AND (collection:(gamemagazines) OR collection:(computermagazines))
, but is there a way to search deeper? (If so, might be good to link to something with preloaded search terms.) czar ♔ 12:28, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think there is. Also, the sectionwide tag search is painfully inaccurate most of the time. I rarely use it. Even basic searches, like the ones you describe, don't bring up anywhere close to all of the archive's contents on the topic you're looking for. If you want real results, you have to do a search inside of a single magazine issue. It's a lot of trouble, but it's the only way. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 16:09, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Nintendo Power listing
editFound this listing today of some NP back issues today—thought I'd leave it here in case it'd be helpful czar ♔ 08:41, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Stuff to remember to add later
editSuggestion
editYou might want to add a rather contemptuous, absolute-last-resort sourcing option that's been burgeoning on WP:VG lately: citing the game itself. This has, to my surprise, grown to be considered acceptable even in GAs and FAs. Tezero (talk) 07:28, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
- I've been forced to do it myself, recently. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll find time to include it before the newsletter goes out. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 15:55, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
