TIME

edit

Throughout history Time has always been the co-ordination of events to the natural cycles of Earth and Moon. [1]

Years are defined by the orbit of the earth and all calendars are adjusted to this cycle which requires adding a day approximately every four years. [2] Days are defined as the rotational period of the Earth and the universal second, now defined by a specific frequency of a vibrating element, is still adjusted to changes in the Earth's rotation[3]. Months began as lunar cycles and remain such in some calendars while the west has largely abandoned this for a division of the year into twelve standardized units. [4] Other large cycles have played a part in human history such as the procession of the equinox which co-ordinates Earth's seasons to the zodiac constellations, especially the rising sign of spring which is now in Pisces and gradually shifting to Aquarius (see the dawning of the age of Aquarius).

presentism

edit

In the philosophy of time, presentism is the faith in an objective reailty that only contains physical items that exist in the present. Objects defined or discussed relating to the future and the past are unreal "entities" construed as logical constructions or fictions(memories and anticipations). The opposite of presentism is 'eternalism', which is the belief that things in the past and things yet to come exist eternally. One other view (that has not been held by very many philosophers) is sometimes called the 'growing block' theory of time, which is a theory that takes the past and present to exist but the future to be nonexistent.[1] Presentism is compatible with Galilean relativity, in which time is independent of space but is probably incompatible with Lorentzian/Einsteinian relativity in conjunction with certain other philosophical theses which many find uncontroversial. Presentism can also be used more loosely to refer to a narrow focus on the conditions of the moment.[original research?]

why time causes paradoxes in physics

edit

Math is a highly compressed language that seeks to symbolize experiences in a very precise way. In many calculations time is treated as an abstract term, just a number, and detatched from the experience that is beyond the symbol, namely a cycling countable event. because of this detatchment, silly notions like backwards in time and time travel can arise. It is not so easy to make time into a negative if you see it for what it is, namely some perceived stable event that one can use as a gauge for other less orderly events. Speed is Distance/time, but this gets all hairy in relativity where its not so nice and neat as the mass of the object and its speed begins to effect the time factor, which mathematically seems to go negative beyond light speed...but of course that is only because the numbers have lost their connection to the events they are symbolizing.Jiohdi 21:44, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Catagory Error

edit

The notion that charting time in a graphic way makes it the same as spacial dimesions is not unlike charting tone and pitch graphically and claiming they are spacial dimensions of music. Time, unlike space, seems qualitativily different than space in that it is unidirectional. Part of this is because the quantification of time hides the fact that time really just is a comparison of one system to an apparently stable and countable cycling system, rather than to some static property of reality.

arrow of time

edit

A thought occurred to me whilst pondering time-- why does time seem to move only forwards. Seeing this from a quantum probability point of view rather than the standard way of thinking a new thought emerged: the current state of the universe resembles no other prior since all others prior were within a smaller universe as the universe appears to be expanding. in other words the arrow of time is due to novelty. this current perception of the pattern of all things is unique and unlike any prior. by comparison to memories and records we can establish this as verifiable in every moment. We have no evidence what so ever that any state has repeated a prior, even though this is entirely possible in a quantum system, here too, the likelihood that any current state resembles any immediate earlier state drops to zero until such time as the universe begins to contract, should it ever do so. Even if the universe does start to contract, the likelihood that it will do so exactly as it expanded seems to drop to zero as well and so all sentient entities with memories will still perceive time moving forwards as the universe shrinks. only at point omega when the universe resembles point alpha can we say that the universe has made an exact repetition and we cannot even say that as no one will be around to notice but perhaps the alpha and omega itself Jiohdi (talk) 04:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

hypnosis changes

edit

The Hypnotist Due to the stage hypnotist's showmanship and their perpetuating the illusion of possessing mysterious abilities, hypnosis is often seen as caused by the hypnotist's power. The real power of hypnosis comes from the trust the hypnotist can instill in his subjects. They have to willingly grant him the ability to take over their critical thinking and direct their bodies. Some people are very trusting, or even looking for an excuse to abdicate their responsibilities and able to be hypnotise just within seconds while others take a lot of time to counter their fears.[37]

[edit] The subject In a stage hypnosis situation the hypnotist choses his participants carefully. First he gives the entire audience a few excersizes to perform and plants ideas in their minds, such as, only intelligent people can be hypnotized and only those wanting to have fun will play along. These suggestions are designed to overcome the natural fear of trusting a stranger with the greater fear of being seen as unintelligent, unsociable, and joyless by the rest of the audiance. Out of the crowd he will spot people who appear trusting, extrovert and willing to put on a show. often These people are looking for an excuse to do something they otherwise would not do sober. The hypnotist starts them off by having them imagine ordinary situations that they have likely encountered, like being cold or hot, hungry or thirsty then gradually builds to giving them a suggestion that is totally out of character, such as sing like Elvis. The desire to be the center of attention, having an excuse to violate their own inner fear suppressors and the pressure to please, plus the expectation of the audience wanting them to provide some entertainment is usually enough to persuade an extrovert to do almost anything. In other words the participants are persuaded to 'play along'. This gives the impression that the hypnotist has total control over them.

beer and civilization

edit

the Urine of Yeast, a mild poison that allows the human mind to put out the lights of the nagging nasty judgemental voice that sits just behind the back of the fun centers of the brain...allowing the fun centers to take over the body for a short amount of time until all the lights are put out. Without beer and other alcoholic drink, civilization as we know it would have likely never come to be, as a stable drinking supply free of deadly bacteria to sustain a large population. The caanite god El, whose name became a generic hebrew word for all gods may indicate an origin relating to beer as the name spelled Aleph Lamed is pronounced exactly as a dry heave. My theory is that on the night of the first drunken orgy, mankind blessed the gods for giving them the ability to see heaven and somewhere towards the end started vomitting uncontrollably and realized they were not worthy. RAGAMUFFIN HISTORY

edit

In the 1960s a regular non-pedigreed white alley cat named Josephine, who had produced several litters of normal alley cats, was injured in an accident involving a car and taken to a laboratory at the University of California. After she recovered, her next litter produced exceptionally friendly kittens. When the subsequent litter produced more of the same, Mrs. Ann Baker (an established cat breeder) purchased several kittens from the owner, who lived behind her, and believing she had something special, set out to create what is now known as the Ragdoll.

Baker, in an unusual move, spurned traditional cat breeding associations. She trademarked the name "Ragdoll", set up her own registry - International Ragdoll Cat Association (IRCA) - and enforced stringent standards on anyone who wanted to breed or sell cats under that name.[2] The Ragdolls were also not allowed to be registered in other breed associations. In 1975, a group broke rank with IRCA with the aim of gaining mainstream recognition for the Ragdoll. This group eventually developed the Ragdoll standard currently accepted by major cat registries.[2]

In 1994, a second group of around 30 breeders decided to leave the IRCA and form their own group due to increasingly strict breeding restrictions. The foundational breeders of the new group were Patricia F. (first president of RAG), Janet K.(Encore Cats[3])(current breed chair and president of the breed until 2008 ), Kim C.(Ultimate Rags[4])(current breed vice president) Judy M.(Rivendell Rags) and Curt G.(Leibling Cats).[5] and around 25 other breeders who are no longer active. Their first act was to simply rename their stock of Ragdolls as Ragamuffins, Which was initially more of a joke put forth by Curt G. but when the original registry could not be undone, the name stuck. One of the first concerns of the group was the genetic health of their stock, which was alreay in its fifth generation of inbreeding. So in the spirit of bettering the breed's genetic health and personality, they out crossed to Persians, Himalayans, and domestic Long haired cats which increased the distinctiveness of the Ragamuffin from their Ragdoll ancestors. They did allow some Ragdoll inbreeding as well (which will end in 2010 for ACFA recognized ragamuffins). The goal of the breeding has always been to keep their distinctively affectionate personality and health rather than any particular look other than their distinctive scooped nose and other minor traits that set them apart.

The first cat association to accept the breed at full show champion status was United Feline Organization (UFO) and while some major cat associations still refuse to accept the Ragamuffin as a recognizable breed, due primarily to their close association with the Ragdoll, they were accepted into the American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA) and finally Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) as a provisional breed in the miscellaneous class in 2003.

While Ragdolls were first registered and accepted as the breed ancestors to the RagaMuffin, the current allowance of Ragdoll out crosses makes the Ragamuffin the larger catagory of breed with the Ragdoll as one of its sub-catagories.
