Hi classmate, we both used the n/a, I thought that deserved a comment as well as fulfilling one of my talks.Yateraid (talk) 02:57, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
I found a few major pages that I'd be interest in working on. The Expectancy-Value page would be of greatest interest to me. It doesn't mention any of the prominent theories in education and it attributes the origin of EVT to one Psychologist but does not at all mention any of his contemporaries that developed theories with the same name. There is also at least one citation that should probably be omitted in favor of something more seminal. I'd also be interested in addressing Achievement Motivation on the Motivation wikipedia page. Finally, I thought it would be interesting to look into the Moral Development page, but it is under the domain of some Psychology group. It looks kind of complicated and I'm not sure how to go about engaging with that part of the community. Jjk5ne (talk) 07:36, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jeff, it would help me if you added links to the pages you mentioned so I can check them out. I'm totally on-board with you doing something related to motivation; as I mentioned in class, I'd like to have at least some portion of it be specifically related to adolescence. Once I take a look at the pages you're thinking about and/or you make a specific decision about your potential direction, I can give you more specific feedback to help shape the idea. Also, you're welcome to work with Alyssa User:4apar on this if you'd like; I left a similar message for her on her talk page. -Joanna Jml4bw (talk) 02:47, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Joanna Jml4bw, I made a small edit to this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motivation about intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. I was thinking I could link this to the expectancy-value page found here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expectancy-value_theory There is nothing mentioned on either page about Eccles' work so I think it would be reasonable to add in general sections describing the theory as well as some subsections addressing the research on adolescents in particular such as the typical trajectory of student motivation as well as how different groups and domains might conceptualize this. I have a little knowledge in the area but I know Eccles and Wigfield have written extensively on those subjects so it might be a nice area to stick to. I'd be glad to work with with Alyssa User:4apar, I know she was interested in writing about value so I think we could cover a lot of ground working together. Jjk5ne (talk) 02:55, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- I think this is a great plan, Jeff- it's of reasonable scope and you've identified a way to make it relevant to the course. Alyssa User:4apar had a similar idea for a different page; specifically, she proposed adding some of Dweck's work on achievement goal theory to a page on goal theory. The goal theory page is even less developed than Expectancy-Value, so it's a big task. I'll let the two of you decide if you'd like to partner up on either of the two possibilities. -Joanna Jml4bw (talk) 20:09, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
