Hello Compassionate727!, thank you for reaching out to me. I completely understand your message and wish to rectify. I believe the question on hand pertains to the issue with CelebrityAccess. I have access/proof to the original source of the copy that was placed within Gary Kurfirst Wikipedia page from the original Author, Katie Elliot. CelebrityAccess actually used Katie's copy and placed it within their site. In this particular case, what would be the best course of action to resolve this and have my most recent changes placed back. Would putting you in contact with Katie solve this? Would I have to reference another site? If I have the original author's permission, would that suffice? Thank you! Jmaya10 (talk) 22:49, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Normally, we would ask her to update the page containing her article to license it under a CC-BY-SA-compatible license, but I'm guessing that she doesn't control the CelebrityAccess website, and if she sold the rights to her article to them, this may not be legally possible anyway. Let me loop Diannaa in on this, she'll have more experience than me with situations like this. Compassionate727 (T·C) 16:46, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jmaya10: Thank you for your interest in working on Wikipedia. There are a couple of problems with your submission. You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder or have their permission, unless special documentation is in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials which explains how it works.
The second problem is that you appear to have a conflict of interest. Writing or editing an article about a client or someone you know personally is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page. I have placed some information about conflict of interest below. — Diannaa (talk) 18:48, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you @Compassionate727 and great to be speaking with you @Diannaa, I appreciate everyone's input as I understand Wikipedia requirements and rules at a higher level. I also understand your feedback using copyright material even if I have access to the original author's article before being used on CelebrityAccess' page. Could I potentially rewrite the entire section so be an original take? To do so, would I be able to revert the changes that were taken down, rewrite the section and publish? I did my best to reference and provide credit as much as possible. I hope to resolve this soon. Thank you again @Diannaa Jmaya10 (talk) 21:04, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Writing your own sourced content is always an option. — Diannaa (talk) 01:41, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Jmaya10. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Gary Kurfirst, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 18:48, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jmaya10! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Gary Kurfirst that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Wikishovel (talk) 05:31, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Wikishovel, great speaking to you here and thank you for bringing this to my attention. I understand and appreciate everything Wikipedia stands for. I just noticed the page for Gary Kurfirst was reverted back to an earlier edition, however, I asked that I may be given an opportunity to correct the issues at hand with the tone and copy that was used. If the page could be please reverted to the newest edition and given a reasonable timeframe to correct, I would greatly appreciate that. May I be please given till end of the week to correct the latest version? Thank you for your time! Jmaya10 (talk) 05:46, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Wikishovel - Much like your help on the List of Gary Kurfirst Career, is there anyway you can move the latest version of Gary Kurfirst page as a draft? Would it be possible to submit my version for review? or would that be exclusively on new pages only? Thank you! Jmaya10 (talk) 06:21, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately that article can't be moved to draft, because it was created in 2009.
Could you please clarify your connection with Mr Kurfirst? Do you have a former professional or personal connection with him, or with a company or person connected with his work? Thanks, 07:37, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
@Wikishovel - I understand. I am currently assisting Gary's son in correcting the current copy and adding information. There is incorrect information that my new copy is correcting and is being supported by the references I am adding. However, I did speak to Gary's son in editing the copy that was recently placed in order to remove anything that would be deem as conflict of interest, which include conjecture, certain adjectives, etc., and only being supported by references. I am attempting to grab the most recent copy that I placed, however, there is a strikethrough on my version within the history. Anyway that can be reverted so I may view my version on my end alone? Thank you again @Wikishovel Jmaya10 (talk) 23:22, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The content is struck through in the edit history because it again contained a significant amount of copyrighted content, which Wikipedia is legally obliged to remove. Please don't try to re-add that.
Thanks for clarifying about your work with Mr. Kurfirst's son. Is your work with him on a professional basis, or is it a connection of family or friendship? Wikishovel (talk) 04:04, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Wikishovel - Understood. I believe that was a previous edit of mine involving a CelebrityAccess article, however, I am no longer placing that reference or copy on my newest iteration. I am now only placing copy with references from reputable and well known websites, but in my own words. My connection is professional, but not specific to Wikipedia, but I am in fact assistance him in using this platform. But I am solely writing the copy myself to avoid any connection to a possible conflict by avoiding certain adjectives and tone. Thank you again for your assistance on this. Jmaya10 (talk) 02:23, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for clarifying that your connection is professional. As User:Diannaa noted above, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page, and you haven't done that yet. Please read these guidelines on how to do that. Wikishovel (talk) 04:41, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

List of Gary Kurfirst Career moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to List of Gary Kurfirst Career. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and you may have a possible Conflict of Interest. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Wikishovel (talk) 06:04, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Wikishovel - Thank you for this. I was actually attempting to have this page saved as a draft, but figured the only way I can save my progress would be to publish. Thank you for all your help as I get up to speed in using Wikipedia. I am a completely believer in everything Wikipedia stands for and appreciate your time and help. Jmaya10 (talk) 06:14, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Wikishovel - Question. Is there anyway I can save my progress on the draft page you assisted me in creating. I am continue to work on it, however, I am having a hard time saving my progress and leaving my browser. Is the page to remain open at all times until I send for review? Thank you! Jmaya10 (talk) 02:25, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No the draft doesn't need to stay open, you can save your progress by clicking the "Publish changes" button at the bottom of the draft article. This only saves your changes to the draft, and doesn't "publish" the article to the main article space. Wikishovel (talk) 04:41, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
