Adoption graduation test

Hi Nihiltres!

I know it's been very short, but I think I've got the hang of things now, and I recently gained rollback. So I was wondering if I could take a "final test" to graduate or something, and if I passed it, if I could move up to admin coaching.

There is no real "test" that can be given, no objective boolean evaluation that can be made. I can, however, give you an idea of where you stand. If you're thinking of "moving up to admin coaching", there are certain things that one should be able to demonstrate. One is a general understanding of what our project, Wikipedia, is, and how we mean to go about it ("clue", to generalize). Another is understanding to some degree the group dynamics ("politics") which do have a good effect. Finally, although it's not a direct requirement for editing, a reasonable requirement for admins is that they have at least a basic technical understanding of how the systems we operate ("sysop" ← "system operator") work.

Therefore, here is your test, if you really want one:

The MediaWiki extension FlaggedRevs for implementing flagged revisions is largely ready, but has not been implemented on the English Wikipedia. Why is this the case? Discuss applicable issues from multiple viewpoints and explain them as though to someone unfamiliar with Wikipedia. Keep it as short as possible: no tl;dr-provoking stuff.

By the way, this question is quite difficult. If you don't want to answer, you don't have to. This question is one that I'd give RfA candidates if I didn't know already how stressful the ordeal can seem; if you can answer it well, admin coaching will seem easy. {{Nihiltres|talk|log}} 03:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I think I got it. Let me know if I didn't quite get te actual question and thought it meant something else etc. ...

It is clear that MediaWiki extensions (articles) get to a point of so called "perfection", when editing and tweaking of an article is no longer needed. Therefore, while pages can still be edited, certain pages are more easily preserved using FlaggedRevs, making a certain revision visible to users viewing a FlaggedRevs tagged page.

The reason that Wikipedia cannot in any way impliment this extension for it's mainspace is because Wikipedia articles never really achieve "perfection", unlike MediaWiki articles. This is a result of a changing world, and encyclopedia articles can always be improved, no matter what the case. There is no deadline, after all, and so there is no need to rush our work, instead, we need to focus on the quality of our articles.

Another possible issue with FlaggedRevs is that external images from other Wikimedia projects are not stabilized. They are not universal, and so images from Wikimedia Commons that are carried over to Wikipedia could not have FlaggedRevs used on them because then an image updated on Commons for the better would not change on Wikipedia.

I've always come down hard on vandals, but if someone is willing to try and edit in a positive manner, I'm all for it. I also appreciate the RfA offer. I used to be an admin as User:Lucky 6.9, but I gave back the mop and bucket in good stead and per my own request. Too many attacks by too many egos, I'm afraid. I'd deleted someone's Urban Dictionary dicdef per policy and the guy just came unglued. I'd blocked the user for incivility...but was overturned by another admin, generally a no-no. After threats of RfC's and other assorted nonsense, I'd had enough at that point and I walked away for almost two years. As much as having the tools back in my control would be a help in fighting off the vandals, I'm not sure I'd like to have them back anytime soon. Perhaps in the future. Wow...thank you very much! I am beyond words. Just for fun, I stopped by the user in question's talk page. He hasn't edited in a couple of years, but I fear he may have been in poor health. His veiled insults are still on the talk page, my response on the talk page and the block log shows my original blocks and the unblock. I feel like I just turned over a rock and found something wriggling underneath...but the Barnstar more than makes up for it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I would encourage you to read other articles to see the style they are written in as well as read the Wikipedia introduction. An article that exibits good quality is Moe Berg. Okay. No prob. All you do is copy the URL of the website page you are using (make sure to highlight and copy it, rather than type it, because you need to include the http://). After that, go to the place in the article where you want to place the footnote in the article. Paste the URL in there, then place two ref html tags around it. Here is an example:

If I wanted to cite http://google.com/Special/Extraspecial.html, this is what I would do:

<ref>http://google.com/Special/Extraspecial.html</ref> Here's how it would look in the article: Google has a special page, named Special.

One other thing...

If you want it to show up at the bottom in the references section and there is none, simply type ==References== and then include the text {{reflist}} below it, like this: ==References== {{reflist}} :And there you go! Jock Boy (t/c) Sign 06:27, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

wow you even have your own lessons and stuff, okay i have a few questions:

1. I don't know what to write about for my first lesson :(
2. I've decided to do anti vandal work and am using a program that filters recent changes and sometimes vandals will only make one bad edit and you can click the undo button and it will revert to the previous edit but what happens when a vandal makes more than edit when you revert the first one it goes back to their second one how do you revert a group of vandalisms.
3. Lastly how do you get your page so pretty and organised like yours?
