Numismatic ToDo

Hey, thnx for the 1000 edit thing, I've been waiting on that for atleast a week :). Anyways, I updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Numismatics/to_do and it shows updated on that page, but not on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Numismatics. Can ya look at it? <font color="#00bfff">[[User:Searchme|Joe I</font color="red">]] 22:27, 15 November 2005 (UTC) oops, sig off, I'll go look at that :)

By-the-by, as those silly English K-nigits would say, we have a list at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Numismatics as well as at Wikipedia:Requested_moves that needs to be moved/renamed/whatnot. Whenever you get time. Thnx :) Joe I 00:07, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

I played around with that page a bit, and I added the infobox to Morgan dollar. Titoxd(?!?) 03:05, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

I guess I need to learn how to redirect someday, I'll give it a go. :) Thnx Joe I 02:56, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Don't delete stubs when people are working on them

I commend you on your recent adminship, but if you had bothered to read the edit notes you would have realized that the stub page I created was a placeholder and that I am in the process of changing some things around. Peyna 22:48, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

I took care of the problem, but mainly just wanted you to make sure you pay a little closer attention in the future. I think that the page you deleted was Rogers Cup (tennis). I was in the process of moving Rogers Cup over to Rogers Cup (soccer) and then creating the page for tennis and then moving a bunch of wikilinks, so it was a little frustrating to come back and see the page deleted. Peyna 23:20, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

the new guy

Hello, Johann Wolfgang

My Name is Dirk Becker. I had contributed some webCam links from my city, and from the snowy hills of British Columbia to find they were removed by yourself. Well I assume it is because I was rather new and probably did not use the proper voice, well whatever the case I do hope you revise my additions and put them my links back in with the "List of live webcams of places around the world."

I would also like to have the accesability of that particular page questioned. Unless you type the page title directly, you cannot ussually find it with out a struggle, and i think that page is really neat.

Ok, well thanks for your time Johann. Good luck with your Adminship and please consider my contribution.

A Loyal Reader and WikiFan. dirk.dark@gmail.com

Hi Johann Wolfgang,

Thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! If I can ever help with anything or if you have any comments about my actions as an admin, please let me know! Regards, JoanneB 13:19, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

72.136.3.182

I see you reverted User 72.136.3.182's vandalism of Louis XIV of France. That user has been targeting that individual all night. I have now imposed a 24 hour block. It is possible that they will reappear and continue the vandalism using a new IP. If they do impose an immediate block, using the template {{subst:MIPblock}}. That template is designed to tell people that the block is not simply for someone vandalising using that IP but that they have been using multiple IPs for vandalism. FearÉIREANN 00:35, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

dealing with vandalism

I don't know if you know it where to find it (a lot don't), but in case you don't, here's the list of templates that can be used for blocking. The range is extensive, covering everything from continuous edit wars over language to 3RRs, obscenities, abuse, vandalism of user pages, MoS, etc etc. It might be useful. (I've created new set on vandalism of user pages tonight. Someone was doing so last night and it was a pain having to keep writing notes, so there is now a set there that can be used with one command.

The basic set is the test ones. Depending on your taste you'll also find simple text ones, ones in boxes (far more effective in my view. The basic text ones can get lost of someone ends up getting a lot of plain texts on a page. The ones in the white box, from what I can gather, make an impact on people's pages so they make vandals sit up and take notice.) Most of them operate on a simple code. (A few oddballs unfortunately don't!). 1 = use the sandbox please. 2 = could be seen as vandalism. 3 = stop it. 4 = final warning. 5 = blocked. 6 = blocked with a severe warning. Hope they are useful. FearÉIREANN 00:48, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

G'day Johann,

Ontology (computer science) page edits

Hello,

This is about the page Ontologies (computer science).

I didn't see you'd reverted my edits, I had re-done them, I didn't mean any disrespect, sorry!

I'll change them back if I did something wrong, what was the reason you reverted the edits?

The reason for my edit was because the page on CS Ontologies had a large section on Upper Ontologies, which seemed to deserve their own page. I linked to the Upper Ontologies (computer science) from the article after moving the text to the new page.

I thought they deserved their own page for a number of reasons:

  • Understanding Upper Ontologies is not necessarily necessary for understanding ontologies
  • There was a large discussion on the feasability of Upper Ontologies. Whilst this is an interesting discussion, for someone learning about Ontologies they may feel they have to understand this discussion as it is part of the Ontology page. This is not the case.
  • The page was already filled with quite a few disputed facts, and I thought simplifying the main Ontology page would be an advantage in learning about ontologies.

In hindsight I should probably put a larger link in on the Ontologies (computer science) page (a heading, with a brief description of Upper ontologies and a link to the upper ontology page. I'll wait until I have a response from you though.

I will likely be on irc.freenode.org in wikipedia-en and wikipedia-en-vandalism, in case you want to say anything there.

Regards,

Richard

Hello, I have been doing a few things on wikipedia with an account since August. I got a new computer, so I opened a new account with the same name yesterday. Then I wrote an email to the help desk through my own server, not microsoft, concerning the article about cylindrical coordinates. Now I have received an email from the help desk saying that they will have to decide whether to conside my request for a clearer illustration because I'm not a member. So do I need to do something else besides open an account to be a member? Or were some wires crossed somewhere?

Hey Wolfgang. I'm not a vandal. Look at the talk page for the Watchtower. The edits I made were serious. The article is nearly half quotes by length. If you don't like my edits take it up on the talk page. Tbjablin 04:21, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject Numismatics

Dear WikiProject Numismatics member:

You may have noticed the edits made by user:mom2jandk, and you may have also noticed that I have reverted most of them. I would like to leave this note as an explanation.

mom2jandk is a new user and a clearly enthusiastic member of WikiProject:Numismatics. However, he/she has made several changes (specifically to the categorization scheme) that I reverted for various reasons. Among them, he/she:

  • Created several other categories that either do not fit or fit awkwardly into the categorization scheme.
  • Nominated several categories for deletion, including United States Mint, United States Mint engravers, and others.
    • On the deletion vote for Cat:United States Mint, he seems to be confused as to the purpose of the category; it is, as I said, for articles relating to the government agency known as the United States Mint. There are mints in the United States that are not part of the United States Mint (i.e. the Franklin Mint) and his confusion over this fact seems to be the impetus for the nomination.
    • You might also notice that he nominated cat:Directors of the United States Mint; his explanation is that he broadened the category to "United States Mint officers" so that a Superintendent could be included. The "superintendent of the Mint" to which he referred was Roswell K. Colcord, who was superintendent of the Carson City Mint; there is no such office as "superintendent" for the entire United States Mint (or, if there is, it is distinct from Director of the Mint.)

After reading this fairly lengthy message, you might get the impression that I am attacking either mom2jandk or his/her edits; this is not the case. I have a great deal of admiration for him/her as a new user who is not afraid to jump in and try to improve Wikipedia and the Numismatics project. I hope he/she continues to contribute, and I believe he/she has a great deal to offer. This message is quite long because I wanted to explain the specifics of the categories (many of which, incidentally, were created by me.)

Note that I placed merge tags on most of mom2jandk's categories.

It goes without saying that, if there are any categories that should be altered and/or deleted, by all means make such changes, regardless of whether I or anyone else created them; neither I nor my edits are perfect.

Apologies for using he/she; I assume mom2jandk's user name reflects her role as a mother but I wasn't completely certain.

Thank you all and I look forward to continued work with you in the future. Paul 06:01, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Accor

Hi Johann

I believe I left a message about Accor hotels in a wrong page. And that was reverted. Could you please me help me?

User 80.11.211.162 have been persistently leaving a text inside the Accor hotels like that "Many Accor hotels (e.g. Mercure and Ibis in Germany) have a habit of blocking free public internet access dialup numbers, obliging customers to buy Wifi access instead."

I do not have any relationship with Accor Hotels, but I think this is a minor complaint (to be related to a newspaper, not an encyclopedia) and should not be in an encyclopedia. Same comment was done in French edition as well. We should look for more neutral articles. But the user keep insisting to post that. is there any way to stop that ?

Banned?

Hi

I'm just wondering why I have been banned. It says I have 2 previous warnings for vandalism when I only ever posted the one stupid thing as a laugh. Everything else I posted was correct, such as:

Hearts form hasn't been as good under Rix as it was Burley

And the term huns was a derogatory term coined by Celtic fans and adopted by most other SPL fans.

I can't see where the multiple violations were.

Merger of two numismatics articles

Hi. I'd like to have a third opinion as to the proposed merger of Bophuthatswana Remainder Issue postal orders with Postal Orders of Bophuthatswana, proposed by me more than a month ago. I ask you as you are an active member of the Wikiproject on Numismatics, and because mergertags IMO degrades Wikipedia if left too long. I've discussed it somewhat with the author at his userpage and at the articles' talkpages, User:Aidan Work, but he feel that they should be seperated, while I'd like to merge them as they deal with roughly the same subject (only at different periods of time), and also as they are very short (see WP:MM). Thanks in advance. Bjelleklang - talk 00:37, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
