Douglas Adams

Milestones

Hey, John. I noticed that you've got a number of "milestone edits" listed on your user page. How do you find that out? Did you have to scroll through all your contributions counting, or did you keep checking the editcount tool? Or is there some other tool I don't know about that will tell you which of your edits was number such-and-such?

Scouting article work

List of Illinois County Seats

I have been working modestly on several of the lists of county seats to try to give them a more consistent appearance. I note that you have basically redirected a list of Illinois counties into this slot. While it contains the basic data on county seats, it is not consistent with the other sheets in this series. Would you have any objections if I were to create a new sheet for this series, and break the redirect link you have set up? Mind you, I don't propose to alter the basic Illinois county sheet--just to create a separate sheet for the list of county seats to use in that series. I'm new to Wikipedia, and want to be sure I don't offend any sensibilities by changing something that someone had a good reason for doing, so wanted to check with you before making such a change. It is entirely obvious that names like "Just Cause", "Iraqi Freedom", and "Peace for Galilee" for military attacks are propaganda. The fact that the propaganda is a practice with tradition does not change anything about this. Neutrality is a basic principle that has to be taken into account at whatever page. AM page question

Hi John. I know we haven't been on best terms, but I wanted to ask a question. Do you think the Accelerated Math page is too much like an advertisement? I hope it isn't, but since my sources tend to be the company webpage and their publications, it might sound like it. I think Accelerate Math, like Accelerated Reader is in common enough usage to warrant an article, but I'm not sure. I would think that if we have a page on AR, we should have one on AM too. I was also wondering why User:MCrawford wanted to remove the article. I went to his user page yesterday and it said he was "curriculum developer and instructor for Art of Problem Solving" (old User:MCrawford page), which is "an educational resources company." It also appears that he was cited for advertising on Wikipedia (User talk:MCrawford). Given these issues, I wonder if he has a conflict of interest or if he is upset that the AM article hasn't been cited as advertisement while his pages have been. What do you think of all of this? Tolled state roads...

I don't think Illinois 7 is part of a toll road. Illinois 7 stays north of I-80 for its whole length, and passes under I-294 as Southwest Highway. What I might have forgotten is that some state routes (Illinois 9 for sure) traverse toll bridges going to other states. —Rob (talk) 13:57, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Architecture of Windows NT

Thanks for the suggestion; I have moved the page to Architecture of Windows NT. It seems there was discussion to that effect on the talk page but nobody ever made the move. There is no longer need for a FAR. Andrew Levine 12:02, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I think there might be a big problem with that new name. It is factually incorrect, due to the whole line being discussed, and worse than that in sfotware terms, it sounds obsolete. The discussion did *not* reach consensus, so could it be that the move is a bit unilateral? I, like the others have no easy answer, "Architecture of recent Microsoft Windows" seems limp, as do "Architecture of modern Microsoft Windows" and "Architecture of contemporary Microsoft Windows", so do "Architecture of Microsoft Windows NT and later". I think now that W98 will be unsupported 2007, "Architecture of Microsoft Windows" (used with caveats) is best. I added this text to the talk page. Widefox 01:04, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
