Digital Opportunity Index (DOI) AfD
editThe "non-notable business" that you thought was behind the Digital Opportunity Index (DOI) article turns out to be the International Telecommunications Union, an agency of the UN, which is both notable and not a business. I've rewritten the article to make this more clear, and I've added information about the index to the ITU article, and I'm suggesting merge or keep. I invite you to reconsider your vote. cheers --Xtifr tälk 11:29, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Could you clarify why you chose delete instead of Transwikification? The transwikification won't have any ill effects on the quality of the pike article and still removes the material from Wikipedia while putting it where it belongs (on WikiBooks). - Mgm|(talk) 11:16, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
I have an account.
editHello. I actually do have an account. However, it takes too long to log in, so I edit from my school IP. 66.214.220.134 15:42, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Well thanks again. I can see your point.--John Lake 15:46, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Withdrawn
editI appreciate your support, but have decided to withdraw from consideration for a position as an arbitrator. The community has overwhelming found me to be too controversial to hold that position. Thanks again for your time.--MONGO 19:52, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for voting
editThank you for voting in my RfA which at 51/20/6 unfortunately did not achieve consensus. In closing the nomination, Essjay remarked that it was one of the better discussed RfAs seen recently and I would like to thank you and all others who chose to vote for making it as such. It was extremely humbling to see the large number of support votes, and the number of oppose votes and comments will help me to become stronger. I hope to run again for adminship soon. Thank you all once more. Wikiwoohoo 20:13, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
User:Westtexasman unblocked
editAnother admin persuaded me to unblock User:Westtexasman because his edits appear to have been a mal-intentioned way of following WP:BLP, with a bunch of reversions and no edit summaries except for rollback. Alex's thinking is this confused the newbie more than anything. I have the article watchlisted and will attend to the situation if this turns sour again. Anyway, thanks for your help in reporting vandals and suspected vandals. We'll see how this one turns out.--Kchase T 05:41, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

editGot it, thanks. :) User:Zoe|(talk) 05:35, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Closing AFDs
editBy the way, the Deletion process does not allow non-administrators closing AFDs, unless some very specific circumstances occur. You recently closed one nomination, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Darcy Burner (second nomination) which did not fall under the criteria I linked to above. As a result, the AFD have been reopened. Also, that page had undergone a previous Deletion review; usually, those pages are by default controversial, so don't close them in the future. Titoxd(?!?) 05:27, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't realize that a previous Afd constituted controversial. This one was definite keep. Anyway thanks for the links and I'll be more careful next time.--John Lake 06:24, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Closure
editWhoops, mistake on the date thing. But yeah, generally, non-admins can only close unanimous keeps. Sorry about the error! --Coredesat 00:53, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Speedy Delete
editHowdy there! I'm pretty new to being a newpage monitor (well, hopefully being a newpage monitor). I'm tagging for speedy deletion Creat article, and I wasn't sure what tag to use... I used {{db-disparage}}. Does that sound right to you or is there another tag that you think would have worked better? --Адам Райли Talk 02:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks a bunch! I've been using those tags, I just wasn't sure exactly which one to use. Sometimes there's always that one that could count for two or three....or none of the tags. Oh well, I'm sure that if I tag an article wrong by accident once or twice it won't make too much of a difference anyway...it all gets deleted in the end. --Адам Райли Talk 03:09, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Rose Li
editThank you for your query re notability on the Rose Li entry. I have added references and wonder what you think now? Scholar by the River
- The references are good. The tag was added because it seems to have questionable notability per Wikipedia:Notability. Other editors will take a look at it also and make a decision.--John Lake 14:47, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
The Crimson Palm
editI have removed the speedy tag, added an infobox (mostly empty) and an intro line (very pathetic.) Its all yours now. KillerChihuahua?!? 16:04, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Rose Li
editMe again: I have rewritten the final paragraph in an attempt to clarify the notability issue, does this do it? Scholar by the River
- It isn't nominated for deletion at this time. I am not going to nominate it, just addressed the concerns. Here is a link to Wikipedia:Notability (academics) which may help because it shows what is looked for in an article about a teacher. --John Lake 20:30, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
I think we had an edit conflict, with both of us restoring the tags at the same time. My apologies. I was in the middle of individually tagging NPOV statements in the article (or at least some of them). The editor has already reverted tags without then providing references once. I would love to have another set of eyes on this. Pastordavid 07:13, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
AIV
editHi John, please don't list on AIV until the user has had a level 4 warning, and has then editing again... I did however block the IP for 3hr. Thanks/wangi 01:59, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism on "Indian Names"
editThere was some stuff under the "Tamil Names" section that looked a bit like vandalism, I think I got most of it. There was another part that looked a little confusing, but now that I see it again it's not vandalism. Thanks for offering to help! Dylan Slade 12:54, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
