Hi Johnking121! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Marja Lubeck that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. It’s not a big deal; just so you know. Campaign to Ban Conversion Therapy

edit

Hi there. I'm going to create a new page about Conversion Therapy in New Zealand and a move a lot of the material at Shaneel Lal over to it. A big history of the movement isn't appropriate to be on his biography. Would love your help on it. Nauseous Man (talk) 23:12, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Kia ora.
Lal's pronouns are they/them.
I would leave Lal's page as is. I have gone through their page and every paragraph noted is personalised to Lal, their part in the movement and their responses to things that were happening. As a key figure in the movement to ban conversion therapy, it is entirely appropriate to have their role and actions in the movement recorded on their page. This is very common for activists' pages. It would be wrong to strip Lal of their history in the movement, especially given the contributions of queer activists of colour have been intentionally erased from history. We must avoid perpetuating that kind of erasure.
I support the creation of a page to document the movement. There are a lot of things that are not recorded on Lal's page that can go in it. I think we can create a page dedicated specifically for the movement without taking away from Lal and their work. I am happy to help to document the movement. I believe it would be more appropriate to summarise Lal's involvement on their page under a heading with a link to the main page that has more information on all history of the movement including Lal. The article as it stands is a bit convoluted and has quite a lot of referencing issues and phrasing needs to be improved. Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 08:41, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
