Just to reiterate, while your alteration to make the date simply 1400 is clearly an equable solution, as it avoids either system, the use of CE and BCE is per se patently ridiculous and quite nonsensical. Logically, the actual reckoning system for years should be changed completely if there is some sensitivity: 1400 is still 1400 years or so from the birth of Jesus, after all, not from any other god. Better then to change the date completely to reckon perhaps, in a NZ context, from the Maori massacre of the Moriori (Chatham Islanders)? It's not "patently ridiculous" to me at all and simply claiming it is is hardly going to convince me to share your opinion.

The CE/BCE nomenclature is preferably (to me) because it is secular (it removes reference to one religion's favorite imaginary friend) and at the same time doesn't require billions of dollars be spent to change software and translate documents from the system we've inherited to some new one (which no one will agree on anyway)

You seem to be randomly accusing me of being a pro-maori denier of the massacre of the Moriori - why? I don't deny it happened and I haven't said anything about it one way or the other on wikipedia or anywhere else. (and you mentioning it only makes it seem that you have a chip on your shoulder about it)

In any case, I'm not going to have a discussion with an IP address - please create a username.

I deleted my own comments a few hours after I posted them because I felt my comments were not helpful in improving the quality of the article. Please do not restore my own self-deleted comments.
