National varieties of English

edit

Hello. In a recent edit to the page 2001: A Space Odyssey (film), you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. David J Johnson (talk) 18:19, 19 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of List of Lambda Upsilon Lambda chapters

edit

The article List of Lambda Upsilon Lambda chapters has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Lacks all notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Replaceable fair use File:HéctorelFather.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:HéctorelFather.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 04:20, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Disruptive? You edit warred

edit

I reverted your first edit, then you reverted back—the revert back starts an edit war per WP:Edit war. There is no justification for edit warring so don't do this again regardless. As I just explained, you got the month wrong in your first edit today and from what I had just seen, the chart had not updated. The Weeknd's chart history pages weren't showing data until just a few minutes ago. No chart peaks at all, they were blanked, so it seemed like you were adding unsourced material, which, given your past edits, I wouldn't put past you. Ss112 00:48, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Bro you really got to chill out. They've been updated for over 20 minutes now. Sincerely, stress about other things in life than what I do in Wikipedia. Next time, just double check the sources, cause I don't be adding unsourced information. At least not now with my many years of experience on this site. DovahDuck (talk) 00:51, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I've got to chill out? Says the editor who edit warred in return and then just reverted an edit that had nothing to do with the peaks but that I tagged you in. Don't disrupt Wikipedia to prove a WP:POINT. Also DovahDuck, I was just (and still am) updating the Hot 100 peaks right now. You can see that if you look at my recent edits. I was on the page updating the peak at the same time and ran into an edit conflict with you. How on Earth am I "stressing about" what you do? How would I have gotten to the article that quickly unless I was already there? It seems like you're implying I have now or have ever been interested in following you on Wikipedia. No. Next time, double check the month you add because you got it wrong in the first instance. We're in October now, not September. Ss112 00:55, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Bro I thought you reverted my edit once more so I reverted it back. But I noticed it was an actual contribution to the article so I reverted myself back. Don't act like you don't know what you're doing man. DovahDuck (talk) 01:00, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

You say I've got to double check sources then you didn't double check and assumed I reverted you a third time because I tagged you in an edit explaining why I reverted you the first two times. Please learn the difference between a tag and a revert. My first was still justified, because you got the month wrong. I know what I'm doing, I haven't "acted" otherwise. If that was a sly implication that you still think I am now or have ever followed what you do, please point out the last time I even interacted with you. I can't remember and I don't think you can either. Never mind, it was in January when Dawn FM had just come out and you were creating articles for all the songs despite their not being notable outside of the album. Dawn FM was charting at the time, I didn't have to "follow" you then to see every time I edited the page a new song had a blue link. Ss112 01:05, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

October 2022: Stop reverting edits to make a WP:POINT

edit

Your recent editing history at Die for You (song) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Ss112 00:50, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sincerely get a life, like I said once more. I'm going to ignore anything else you leave on my talk page, and if you continue to harass me on my talk page, I'll see about contacting an admin cause you seem to have beef with me when I got none with you. DovahDuck (talk) 01:02, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sincerely stop making WP:Personal attacks. I don't have "beef" with you whatsoever. I had issues with your edits today. I reverted your edits on Die for You (song) because you got the month wrong at first, I thought the Weeknd's chart history pages had not updated yet (which, sure, I should have double checked) and I edit conflicted with you because I was (and still am) updating the Hot 100 peaks. I just updated a few before getting to that article. I could not have gotten to an article that quickly (the same minute) otherwise. You are seemingly implying above that it was possible that I followed you, when I can't even remember the last time we interacted. Ss112 01:12, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Lambda Upsilon Lambda

edit

I have been expanding the content of List of Lambda Upsilon Lambda chapters as part of WP Fraternities. I noticed you have made several edits to the article and am hoping you can answer a few questions. There are several chapters that apparently went inactive during COVID, or some universities within a chapter dropped. However, the national website still lists these chapters are active. Do you know the actual current status and/or a source such as newspaper or newsletter article that might cover this topic? Thanks. Rublamb (talk) 20:36, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
