Invitation to the Bacon Challenge 2012
editHello! You have been invited to take part in the Bacon Challenge 2012. In case you don't know or need a refresher, the Bacon Challenge is an annual celebration of bacon on Wikipedia in which editors come together to help create, expand, and improve Wikipedia's coverage of bacon. The event lasts all the way through National Pig Day 2012, giving participants plenty of time to work at their pleasure. In addition to the Bacon Challenge is the Bacon WikiCup 2012, a side event to the Challenge in which all bacon-related contributions done by those participating in the Challenge are submitted and scored by the scorekeeper (me) based on the scoring chart. At the end of the Challenge, the user with the most points in the Bacon WikiCup will win a shiny trophy for their userpage. In addition, the users who score the highest in specific categories (not yet finalized, but the categories include most image uploads, most article creations, most DYK submissions, and more) will win barnstars. Finally, all participants will receive a medal. While the awards are nice, in the end, the important thing is to have fun and enjoy what we're all here for, which is improving Wikipedia.
If you decide to participate, great! You may add your name to the participants list at the main page of the Bacon Challenge 2012, and pick up the userbox for your userpage if you desire. Signing up for the Challenge will also automatically enter you into the Bacon WikiCup. If you don't wish to participate, that's fine too - maybe next year! In the meantime, if you know anyone who might also be interested in participating, feel free to invite them! The Challenge is open to anyone and accepts participants at any time, so feel free to let anyone who might be interested know.
Note that I, the scorekeeper of the Bacon WikiCup, will be on vacation starting on the 18th of June all the way up until the 5th of July. I will have limited access to the internet, so I may or may not be able to score users' contributions during this time. Sorry for any delay in scoring (but since the Challenge lasts for more than half a year, there's no rush, right? (= ).
I'm looking forward to another fun, successful year. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:56, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
beehives.jpg
editJonathunder
I am requesting clarification on the use of the jpg mentioned in the subject of this email. If allowed, it would be used in a brochure and on a website (not yet built) for a local (Northern California) beekeeper who sells her products in local farmer's markets and - in the future - on the internet.
Thank you.

Wabasha, MN: 12 July 2011
editHi Johathunder I posted several photos of the Wabasha Jail and also three of Grace Episcopal Church. I added the picture of Grace Memorial to the Wabasha, Mn wiki page. Did you think the Jail photo belonged in the Wabasha page too? Or did you just want to record the building before it was destroyed. Thanks! Mazzmn (talk) 03:57, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- I wanted to get any photos we can of the jail before it is gone forever. Thank you. Jonathunder (talk) 11:55, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Minnesota State University, Mankato
editGreek Life at Minnesota State university is just as important as acidemics and music. At any given time over 300 members of the student body are active Greeks and many more inactive to focuse on internships and study abroad programs. If leadership and community service/philanthropy are not notiable I do not know what you would consider notiable. Polloj (talk) 18:21, 29 July 2011 (UTC)polloj
- Greek life may be as important to you as "acidemics" but it would be a very sad state of affairs if that were generally true. Please visit your library, crack a book, and learn about citing reliable sources. Jonathunder (talk) 13:02, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Jona. Could you add something about the Minnesota planning to the front side of WP:Wikipedia Loves Libraries?--Pharos (talk) 02:11, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi, you neglected to note in the edit summary that you were prodding this article for deletion. (Actually, you did not use the edit summary at all.) You also did not notify the article creator of the prodding. I have done both of these things for you. Please be more careful in the future - other editors need to know when an article has been prodded. LadyofShalott 02:30, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Chicken Dumplings
editdo you have the recipe for this soup.
my mom died in February and I can't get the recipe right.
your pic looks similar to her soup.
I would appreciate it.
thuncat
- I am so sorry for your loss.
- The soup in question was from a great little restaurant called Nicoll's Cafe in Pine City, Minnesota. Everything I have ever had there tasted homemade. Perhaps you could write them for the recipe. Having eaten it, though, I don't think the secret was in the ingredients, which were probably fairly basic, but in the technique and getting the broth right.
- Again, my condolences. Jonathunder (talk) 04:20, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
How's it going with the Wiki-Minnesotans' planning? Maybe you should jumpstart by adding something to the front of Wikipedia:Meetup/Minnesota. We've made some progress recently with the guidelines too.--Pharos (talk) 18:59, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the note. I did add something to the front of the Minnesota meetup page, and I would do more to move that discussion, but to be honest, my offline life is a bit overwhelming at the moment. Hopefully one of my fellow Minnesotans can start a discussion there. Jonathunder (talk) 20:04, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Bishop Whipple
editHullo! What makes you assert that he is better known by his full name? Standard Google searches do show us:
- bishop "Henry Benjamin Whipple" -"Henry B Whipple" : 24,400
- bishop -"Henry Benjamin Whipple" "Henry B Whipple" : 20,800
But the academic sources, through Google Books, show:
- bishop "Henry Benjamin Whipple" -"Henry B Whipple" : 9,800
- bishop -"Henry Benjamin Whipple" "Henry B Whipple" : 15,500
What evidence besides these do you have that we should use his full name rather than initial? Cheers DBD 22:46, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification
editHi. In Episcopal Diocese of Alabama, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page George Murray (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Minnesota haggis
editDear Jonathunder:
Your picture of a Rochester, Minnesota haggis is absolutely gorgeous. It looks like a real sheep stomach and the only other time I've seen that is when I made it myself after having scored a couple of sheep stomachs from Sheepy Hollow farm in Independence, MN. But I really don't want to do that again. It took two full days to clean those stomachs.
Do you have a source for authentic haggis in Minnesota? I'd greatly appreciate any leads.
Cheers,
Andy

North Carolina print ad usage

I am happy to give the photographer credit on the printed ad, but I want to make sure I note the credit correctly and get the ok that this is allowed. Please confirm what is required. Thanks! editPlease check your inbox, this is time-sensitive.--Pharos (talk) 23:52, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- I just saw the notice of the event at WT:Meetup/Minnesota, and I see nobody has discussed this on any Wikipedia talk pages. How many people know about the event otherwise, and do you think we can get word out on time? —innotata 18:19, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sorry--life has been hectic lately, and I have been on Wikipedia very little. Thank you to both of you for alerting me. I shall try to help out this weekend with getting word out. I would like to make the event itself, but I can't commit yet. Jonathunder (talk) 19:20, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Interest in Wikimedia Midwest concept?
editGreetings - in an effort to help nudge a conversation about developing a broader Wikimedia presence in the Midwest, I've posted the beginnings of a Wikimedia Midwest page/proposal. I was wondering if you know anyone, yourself included, who might be interested in organizing or helping shepherd this proposal along? Any thoughts you may have would be most welcome on that page or it's talk page. Thank you! --Varnent (talk) 22:43, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
ski photo help
editHello Jonathunder,
I am new to wikipedia editing, and ran across your picture of a 4 tier pyramid. NIce shot and the chocolate covered bacon too!
I have an extensive background in skiing and have made a few edits on the water ski, kneeboard, and hydrofoil page so far. I will be adding photos next, from my extensive collection of high quality shots. I am already offering over 40 photos free royalty free under creative commons 3.0 on my website, tonyklarich.com. I like the way you set up your 4 tier pyramid shot, requiring attribution, various sizes, etc. Is there any source you can direct me to so that I can do the same?
I also like the way you set up your "photos I've contributed" on your jonathunder page. No idea how to do that either. Any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
Tony Klarich WaterHound (talk) 02:37, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
